  • The loud fan does not help the brick get any colder because I cover the thing with a blanket.

  • @OffhandDelivery dude my too! its sounds like fan so wierd idk

  • yea mine only makes the grinding sound when its cold actually. when it heats up it gets quieter. i only had the thing for maybe 4 months now, and there is no dust around and i dont own pets. although i give it a smack and it stops. there must be something clogging the fan somehow..

  • Check out my video

  • thank god that the PS3 doesn't has a brick to supply the power

  • @TheDutchguy18 ya it does its built in

  • Mine started making this noise. Definitely a piece of shit.

  • This is a "juvenile" video. =p

  • are you still using that power supply today ?

  • same my power brick is noisey but is not like that i just sent mine in to microsoft

  • My powerbrick is as loud as my old Xbox was. Then sometimes it gets really loud like it is having a fit and Screetches at me in sequence until I turn it off. It is like it is crying O.o

  • I have the same problem. First i thought the xbox was loud but today i discovered its the power supply... An1 know a fix or some trick to make it quiet?

  • @cribzzy Yeah there's a youtube tutorial on how to open it up and clean the fan.

  • how do you get the rubber feet of the power supply. cause mine are stuck there?

  • @Magicardman Plyers.

  • So I did what TechnoSquid did and just smacked my brick a bit because it was doing the same noise and sure enough it shutup. WTF!?

  • @SpartanWolf17 Lol you knocked some of what was blocking the fan free. Or just knocked the fan into submission with your badassness.

  • This video went viral on Rome

  • Mine 360 slim's PSU started making this noise too. At first I thought it was the 360's internal fan. Today it got really really loud, I gave it a couple good smacks, and it quieted down.

  • @Technosquid Likewise. It makes a grinding when I first turn it on. Meaning when it is at a dead stop it takes effort to get going. I'm thinking I got a butt load of dust in it because it sits on my windowsill and ... well if the window's open, hello dust.

Open it up, clean it out. No harm no foul.

    Silent as ever.

  • There is only one moving part of the Xbox brick that can make noise and that is the fan. As the brick begins to get hot the fan will increase it's RPM's to dissipate the heat faster. This is normal. If the fan picks up a little dust, cat hair or carpet fibers it will begin making grinding/whirring noise. The best thing to do is take apart the adapter in blowout the fan with a can of compressed air. Be sure to unplug the adapter before you try this.

  • @ohrian I know exactly, what makes the noise. Cheap fan. Cheap construction. Anyway, I made this video on the Slim's lauch date. No dust, no cat hair, ...

  • @slickadam So you missed my first point that the fan will make noise..."As the brick begins to get hot the fan will increase it's RPM's to dissipate the heat faster. This is normal.". The sound from your brick is because your brick is hot. The fan is just speeding up to cool it off. I modded my brick where I moved the fan to the outside of the box. My brick never even gets warm anymore. It's always cool to the touch now.

  • @ohrian no, I understood well.:) but the fact that the brick is hot doesn't mean, that the fan must be this loud. with quality components it could be silent. this device is a piece of shit. :D

  • @slickadam hey I totally agree with you that it's not designed very well at all. There's no reason for your fan be running that high unless you've been playing a lot of games for hours or it's at least 100° in your house. There's just no room in the box for air to circulate freely.

  • @ohrian No, he is right. It is just crappy manufacturing. I have had my XBox Slim for over a year now, and just last night I turned it on and for the first time ever it sounded like a wind up car. Nothing to do with the brick being hot. Just a POS fan that XBox throws in there. Microsoft, for being such a big company, you put out some of the most unreliable crap on the Market. 4 Xboxes, two DVD Drive Failure, One a Power Surge (my fault but... ), and now the fan on my PSU!!!

  • I have a Rev. 03 that is VERY loud. Sounds just like the one in this video.

  • Yeah mine does that too...what the hell is wrong??

  • mine makes a REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW.......RRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW........REW!...REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE sound :(

  • what dose it do plz reply

  • My slim's power supply started making this god awful grinding noise also and it's only 4 months old. It isn't dusty or in an enclosed space so I didn't do anything wrong. I think they are just pieces of junk. I bought an adapter off ebay that lets me use the power supply from my old original xbox 360 on my slim. It's silent just like the slim console it's self so it's the perfect combo.

  • @jkulysses HEY! ME TOO! 4 months old too, it was really annoying me so I sent it in to Xbox and they're repaitng it. what's that adaptor you're talking about?

  • @TheNOTchosen1 Just copy and paste this, Xbox 360 Slim AC Power Supply Converter Adapter Cable, into ebay and it will bring up all kinds of them. I tried to post a link to the one I got on ebay but it wouldn't let me. They are also available on Amazon if you would prefer to buy from there. I took my original slim psu out and shot it to pieces with my Mini 14 after I got this adapter in & started using my old power supply again from my original xbox lol :)

  • mine just started to make the noise yesterday, do u have to do anything to it or no?

  • mine just started making that sound wtf?

  • mine make a louder sound then the old xbox, and it starts when i start the xbox :-(

  • @johanpsp your power brick or the console?

  • can anyone tell which are the more recent psu?

  • It seems to be the Rev B power bricks that are loud... Mine is a Rev B and is very loud too, I want to exchange it. Can you reply saying what Rev Power Brick you have and saying if its loud or quiet? Thumbs up so ppl can see.

  • @gr33kb0i94 dude i exchanged it but the one i have makes the exact same noise so idk if it would be worth it so idk if its tolerable?

  • @mattarson9 Can you check on the back of your power brick to see what rev you have?

  • @gr33kb0i94 for sure man i have rev b and i'm trying to research all the psu types whats yours?

  • @mattarson9 I also have a rev B. There are 3 PSU types, Rev B, Rev 02, and Rev 03. Rev B is the loudest and the one that everyone complains about, and the other 2 are quiet. I just dont know how to get one! And I just got my 360 slim and im pissed that I got a rev B!

  • @gr33kb0i94 i know dude i just got mine dude 4 days ago so is ours outdated?

  • @mattarson9 I got mine today lol. I am not sure, we may have the newer ones which are louder to keep them cool, but they are way tooooo loud! Louder than my ps3 and 360 both on together lol. Did u try calling microsoft yet?

  • @gr33kb0i94 yea i set up an order because i'm not sure if we have the latest revisions

  • @gr33kb0i94 i did and i can't tell if ours is outdated so i just called for a replacement...

  • @mattarson9 So how long will it take to come? Did u have to send ur power supply first or do they send the new one first and then u return the other one?

  • @gr33kb0i94 like up to 9 or 7 days because i live near the shipping place and i have to send in mine first but i did strongly enforce that i want a new quieter one not refurbished but a newer quieter model

  • its the brick when it gets to hot its a cooling thing xD its fine :D

  • That happens to me too, I thought its was the Xbox, but it was the power brick. The brick was next to my Xbox.

  • They got do xbox 360 slim vs power brick noise 2011 lol

  • For those that are wondering, the later revisions (e.g. Rev B) are the power supplies that sound like jet engines. Take it back to the store and get it replaced with the older revisions (e.g. Rev 02, 03). I got a Rev 03 after having a Rev B, and the Rev 03 is DEAD silent while the Rev B piece of shit is loud as hell!

  • i know the solution! turn off the xbox! xDD

  • @hammereditorpro 22 september 2010, lmfao

  • Haha your suffering is easily laughable even right up against mine with my tv of mine is near absolutely silent but I guess it is because I have a limited edition, the only xboxes that really are near perfect and rarely fail I have never had an xbox break or scratch a single disk

  • its definately the revision that affects the noise, my first slim was super quiet but had faulty dvd drive, got second one and dvd fine but power brick like jet and you could hear it all the way across my living room rendering the point of the slim being wisper quiet pointless, got just the power supply swapped and that one was great, just a touch louder than the first one but still very quiet, they were all different revisions

  • amazon are sending me a whole new 360 tomorrow

i'll let yall know if the psu is quieter and what rev it is

  • is it normal for the power brick to sound like that because mines annoying

  • I just noticed last night how loud it was. I thought it was my TV fans as it's behind my TV.

  • My power supply makes the same noise only not as loud if anything goes wrong with my xbox or power supply im finished with MS and going to sony.

  • 360 slim PSU's must be defective . . . mine does the same and is only a month and a half old?

  • Typical ms crap , last thing I ever buy from these bastards

  • i ended up buying a 360 i shoulda listened to you - and not the goddamn noisy psu - jesus what a racket !

  • my psu is reeeeealy noisy too , even with headphones on i can hear the damn thing

  • Mine is "whisper quiet" until I play a game :/

Has been like that since the day I got it, fucking joke.

  • lmao i just noticed the noise tonight after playing my 360 slim 250 gig , the system is almost silent but then the power brick i can hear the fan its wired i just got the system last week

  • thx for this , i was just gonna buy a 360 slim too

too much noise fer me thx

  • hmm...... mine dose not make a sound at all.....

  • @AoRxStealth WRONG! xbox P.S.U's have fans that turn on when the xbox is on

  • @AoRxStealth mine does make a little noise but i am gonna wait and see if it gets worse then i am gonna open the brick and clean it with compresed air :)

  • im sick of xbox bein loud i just upgraded mainly one of the reasons bein noise now my brick stratin to sound like generator ive had slim for about 3 months

  • is the power supply still so loud in 2011?. so i still must wait untill they fix this damm problem. want to bye a slim. But not with this very loud powersupply.

  • I have the 4GB and I had no idea what that sound was. I'm getting 250GB hard drive to go with it though.

  • Mine is also loud as fuck, i have my gaming PC, my ps3 and my xbox running at the same time, and all i hear is the FUCKING POWER BRICK

  • Can I get one from game or do i have to do 2 MS. help would b gr8ly appreciated

  • mine started doing this the other day. i thought it was the console at first until i got closer to it. i guess i have to buy a new one...

  • o one more thing why do u have to let the power brick breathe will ur xbox overheat it the brick doesnt get enough air

  • i just got mine today 250gb one and soon as i started it it made the same noise as that maybe it has a fan inside?!! or maybe not....

  • I got the same thing when I bought it, it was one of those bundle. I didnt get this though on the non bundle type --> just the console itself. It's defective if the PSU is louder than the console. I called xbox and told me to just return it. One of the biggest flaws for the new 360

  • Mine does the same thing. I exchanged it, same thing again. As soon as I turn it on you can hear it, gets louder as I play.

  • ps3 slim > xbox 360 slim

  • that is the ps3

  • @NocredRS I'm not saying that the new one isn't better designed, simply that it does the same thing and therefore its an unnecessary update if the old one keeps working.

I know the marketing shouts "YOU MUST HAVE THIS", but no, you don't.

  • Comment removed

  • My PSU got noisey after I played it for awhile but it was loud (really) even after the day after.......so i took it back and got a new one (slim)played it for awhile it got alil loud but then the next day quiet as can be so problem solved. Faster downloads and quiet if thats what they claim then it better be like that when i pay for it, if not its going back but so far so good.....

  • @NocredRS NEVER?! Want to bet?

Also, my old one has recently rrod and yes, the new one is better. Still not worth the price if you have a working old system.

  • So, they just moved the noise away. They didn't eliminate it.

I'll stick with my original xbox. If the price falls to half, I'll consider it.

  • I bought two 360's within a week at the same best buy, and they both had a random chainsaw-ish buzz that started after 10 minutes or so. My original arcade 360 never had any probs. Nor did it once ever make anything similar in terms of power brick noises. My new ps3 slim, makes LOUD cracking/popping noises, and some very, very, rare scratching/scrapping noises when I hit a button in the menu. I give up, just gonna turn up the D...... TV!

  • @consoleracing the chainsaw noise was from the powersupply. The consoles were silent. I didn't make that clear.

  • Had the same problem with my oldschool white no HDMI Arcade system. It was one of the reasons why i got the SLim LOL

  • Sounds like the fan speed control has disabled itself and is running at max RPM for the brick.

  • Ehh your not the first.. :\ unfortunalty i bought my slim at launch and it had this problem then after a month or so i called xbox and they said its not supposed to be like that and they told me there going to send me another so they did and this happend all over again. So i just got pissed at hearing it, i hid it under my entertainment set (small but has ALOT of space to breathe) and i turned on the xbox and.... Silent! ((:

  • its the ps3!

  • @santolman no, it's not...

  • @slickadam Iknow. got the same problem :')

  • I bought a Slim right at launch and returned it because of the noisy power brick. Got my replacement in the mail and same thing. I was hoping it was just defective, but it just seems to be a flaw.

  • Maybe if you modify the power supply by taking off the case it will cool better and be less loud, but I wouldn't do that. I'd rather live with the noise.

  • everyone i just got my xbox 360 slim today and i had my console on for 1-2mins and fucken hell i thoguht it was the console makeing the noise i was liek wtf microsoft Whisper Quite fuck off then i release it was the dam power supply now it's the powersupply that needs to be whisper quite and my console is dam hotter then my old one fuck

  • I just bought the 4GB Slim, the power brick is loud here too, but the console is just about silent. Weird. So this is normal? The PS3 Slim is loud too, after about half an hour.

  • Mine is loud as hell too.

  • i have mine for a week now ,and the power brick does the some noise, but its nothong compared with old one.

  • There's a fan in the power supply now with the new slim console.

It's either this loud because you had the Xbox on for too long and the fan had to adjust its speed to keep up with the heat being generated, or it's just plain faulty, because all the slim consoles/PSUs of my friends I've seen etc. are silent.

If it's only a week old, just go to where you bought it and get a replacement.

  • @dajman15 i have already exchanged it, and the new one makes the same noise as well. so, i think all PSUs must be the same. i mean, it's silent in the first ca. 10-15 minutes. THAN the fan in the PSU starts to work harder (loud), even in the Box's menu, when I'm idle.

  • @slickadam Yes you are right. Also mine one does it after ten minutes, even without the disk. Most people don't hear this fan noise beacuse they hid the PSU (for example behind a piece of furniture). Sorry for the english, i'm italian.

  • @Alethebeer I'm hungarian.:)

  • @slickadam im chinese

  • @slickadam I'm Hungarian too... O_O

  • @slickadam could u explain to me what the power brick is what it is for why the ps3 doesn't have one and whats the fan and light on the power brick for because im about to buy the xbox slim and im so confused and Google didn't come up with anything besides where to buy them

  • @slickadam i have mine where on startup its loud then after 2 minutes its quiet

  • @slickadam i have mine where on startup its loud then after 2 minutes its quiet and then sometimes it gets randomly loud for another 2 minutes

  • @Alethebeer

ya my new one doesn't make noise, but it starts to make noise after extended use

  • @slickadam

Okay. I finally bought one of these myself and I agree with you now that the PSU is fucking loud. It's pissed me right off, it's annoying though because my friends are silent. :/

  • @slickadam what power brick revision do you have ? i have rev A and a friend has revision 02. mine is loud as hell, his is dead silent.

  • @ariciuparanoik

    mines revision 03

i guess theres no hope lol

  • @slickadam i had the same problem phoned up microsoft and they are sending me a replacement this is a faulty brick dude mines quiet now

  • @slickadam Its wierd, my xbox 360 slim's PSU is only loud when Kinect is plugged in. once i unplug the Kinect, it goes silent again.

  • @dajman15

All Xbox 360 Power-supplies always had a small fan. The big problem is not the fan but the limited vents on the power-supply causing the little device to generate alot sharper noise than it could have.

It's not no unbearable and I don't find it to be louder than the identical (but higher-specced) Jasper PSU. So my best bet is to just hide it somewhere limiting the exposure.

  • mine is the same :( only a week old too.

  • the thing is they said the console is silent and nuthing a bout the brick

  • I have the same problem! It sucks!

  • @MrMarvinXD i think it's not a problem. i mean, it IS a problem, but all power bricks are like this. the guys that say, their psu's are totally silent, are simply deaf.

i exchanged this power brick, and the new one is loud as well.:(

  • @slickadam i compared both slim and a older 360 psu, the old psu sounds nothing like the new loud one :(

  • @souls666 this new slim could have been a "perfect" console, but hey... does microsoft test these machines before the launch???

  • @slickadam

They do. However - if it is in fact a problem with the new PSU's generating more noise than the older Jasper PSU's then it's just a problem where the new lower-specced PSU's isn't really perfect with the newer Xbox 360 hardware as it looks today. They bumped down from 65/65 to 45/45nm (CPU/GPU) as far as I know - but looking around this didn't improve energy effeciency as much as it should.

They tried reducing overall power usage and got a little over their heads with PSU specs.

  • @souls666 we need a way to "contain" the psu without overheating it :P

  • what u really hear is the ps3 slim from under wards

  • @SwEXbE yeah, yeah mofo, watch the video again...

  • wow it needs 2 fans one in the power brick and 1 in console ps3 needs 1 and they are both togethor!!

  • The power brick is more noisy than the fucking xbox, doesn't make sense.
