It never ceases to amaze me that this album came out in 1988. Talk about being ahead of one's time. In '88, Poison, Warrent, and the like, ruled the roost. You had to have brass balls to try something as outrageously different as Nothing's Shocking during this era. Come to think of it, I'm not sure this album's time has come yet.
Notice the audience in these old videos compared to the audience in the new clips? Goddammit, it sucks getting old! I wish I could go back to the 90's!
outta the catacombs and some other compilation hysteria is always the best purchase regarding these guys...As A Matter of Fact...check out the BOSTON LULLABYES....perfect circle rendition/edition.
@janterrirocks oh duh! It is the demo version they recorded in '88 to impress the record company, and it appears on the Kettle Whistle compilation album from '97....which I own. Should've known better!
this is the kettle whistle version not the nothing shocking version wise move better by far love, william "the joker" the acoustic proves it william "the joker"
ty...i smashed my iPod when my (ex) GF put something that wasn't JA or Filter on it n needed to hear this. n yes...i gotta heart of stone. ps....they had a sick show @ the Vibes this year in Bridgeport!
Jane's Addiction and Lollapalooza cracked opened the door to "alternative" becoming mainstream and huge. Nirvana - and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - then kicked the door wide open. I know, 'cuz I was in the middle of the whole thing, working this song and alternative music to those stations back in the day.
@DJPaulV this is their Kettle Whistle version. Its why it sounds way more polished than the Original. I prefer this cut only because it was the first version I ever heard. The original still rips tho : )
Perry Farrel Getting Barreled, is there anything cooler than that?
Eddie Vedder was a surfer too. Rememeber when I was a teen and I watched that video on MTV with my friend and he told you see that guy surfing and I was like yes, he is the singer and I couldn't believe it. Janes Addiction has been with me everytime I went surfing. I discovered them on a surf trip when I was 16 and I found a cassette with nothing shocking's cover on it I played it smoked some weed and I was hooked for Life.
Smashing Pumpkins were together at the same time as Jane's and before Jane's got big...so, they are in no way an offspring of Jane's...Perry Farrell does love Billy Corgan though and has said many times how awesome and talented of a musician he is...
@jpsmithmma Jane's (1985) got together 3 years before Pumpkins (1988). Jane's were big before Pumpkins even got together. Just because you hadn't heard of them doesn't mean your opinion is correct.
@jpsmithmma What I said wasn't opinion, it is fact Jane's Addiction were around, and were BIG, before the Pumpkins ever released anything. You don't know what you're talking about, maybe you been hit too many times. Just because you were wrong doesn't mean you have to keep being an ass, but I wouldn't expect any less from a meat-head!
@D4wWhiteGhost2 I saw them at the first Lalapalooza in 1991...they had the 2 chicks with their heads on fire from the Notihing's Shocking album cover sitting on stage...was THE most memorable show of my life...
This is where I come in and become a little English expert and tell you that you have a spelling error. It's not were, its where..oh, and it's you're not your.
@riverway4 rolling stone magazine blows....and yea some of us know what the fuck we're talking about dude. dont hate cuz you dont know as much as other ppl man...read up
the mixing and layering of Janes Addiction is what gave is such depth-not to mention fantastic writing and musicians-try headphones and you will hear much much more-very filling in all respects-
@sector9decline Steve Perkins is the most underrated drummer out there, imo. He's incredible...if you look at his drum heads, the stick only hits about a 2" radius....he's so precise!
@chabochi1 : So right! Stephen Perkins is an amazing percussionist. Despite this version being very watered down from the album- Ocean Size should sound HUGE, this one does not. But yeah- Perkins is completely under-rated.
Why put one band down just because you like another. Both Nirvana and Jane's Addiction are great bands. Why are there so many "haters" out there. Peace.
@MegaMUFDVR I think I understand why you state Jane´s Addiction was 10 times the band Nirvana was, and I agree in a way, but the comparison just doesn´t make much sense... I love Jane´s and don´t see why I shouldn´t enjoy Nirvana.
