  • sorry if i comment too much but every time i play this....but, well,,,u know this is just ***** !

  • yup, spectral mornings is up there with the best ever ! Nothin but praise for steve, he took the guitar way outta bounds..seeing him next month !

  • THE most underappreciated guitar player in the history of rock.

  • great track from his clearly best album (well, at least for me). But I must say, I really enjoy the singing part, always thought that pete hicks did a pretty good job on Spectral Mornings, he got a characteristic voice that fits the mood of this song. Great moody track, thx for putting it up!

  • The very beginning of this song is quite similar to the beginning of the Queen song "Death on Two Legs". Both very good songs.

  • And this, my friends, goes a long way to explain exactly why Genesis would never be quite the same after 1977

  • can u imagine getting this in your head and the laying it down ?? FECKIN BRILLIANT by the most progressive guitarist EVER !!!! SHINE ON STEVE...........

  • THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS FOLKS !!

  • Steve is the only true Composer I have ever heard..this song features the tri-tone benchmark

  • not surprised by your comments guys, steve was and still is in a league of his own...nobody comes close

  • This track epitomises the input Steve made in the music of Genesis - brilliant!!

  • Gothenburg! Wow.

  • Have experienced this ecstatic moment live in Brussels, Ancienne Belgique, late 70's as well. The thrill remain as vivid as any memory can possibly be.

  • blade runner meets tron...meets................

  • Such an epic intro..

  • hackett's a much better composer than Howe

  • One of the origins of djent metal folks.

  • liked the lyrics a lot (although i'm used to peter gabriel's several characters and non-sense lyrics "a flower?")

  • The opening reminds me of Death On Two Legs by Queen (same progression). I love it when the prog masters "talk" to its other in a musical way!!

  • Oh...a true guitar hero of mine. Probably the king of progressive rock of the 70,s

  • mmm love this track, thanks for posting and nice piccies by the way

  • That ending!! Oh how I still remember that ending. If ever Steve wrote a "lullaby" ending this is it. Layered Nylon and 12-string guitar in D-Em-A(add E).

Just listen to how exquisite this man's writing is. Far and away to me the greatest guitarist in the last 40 years.

Nobody plays and writes with such emotion as Steve Hackett. No One!

Sends chills of Joy thru my body and heart.

  • @NS9144 agreed

  • I totally agree! Thanks for posting this Hackett classic from 1979. Eventhough, it does not have heavy rhythm guitars, it still kicks ass!- except for the "calm keyboards part". ( I myself am not a fan of the 2nd half of the song where the singing kicks in, but that's just me ).

  • WOW! Thanks for putting this up. Probably the best (and weirdest) Hackett song ever - puts Genesis to shame. I'm a little partial to the live version only because it's a little heavier, but the this version will always have my favorite memories - I bought this when I was 14. If you think about how this song starts and ends, TRUE proggie music. And it has my favorite chord progression at :37 and 2:55 that Magnus cranks out. It's tied only with the end part of Genesis' "Hogweed". Thanks again!
