  • Im 5'8" i can grab the rim with 1 hand and touch it with bot. I am now starting a training not very hard, since i go to gym I use that to train a little bit my gemellus muscle, so I can increase my leap. Am I doing right?

  • No he doesn't have a 43" jump, that means that his head is 4" from the rim, and there is no way that he is only 6'1, because his arms are very close to touching the net while standing. His head mabey get's 6 inches from the rim, (mabey) and his vertical has to be much less because he's taller than 6'1, that's why he always flings his arms down below the rim after a dunk, he doesn't want you to realize how high his arms are once he hits the floor.

  • I take back my comment on "some races have certain muscle types" this is not the truth. in my opinion its the activities you grow up on and how your taught to play that make you a fast runner, a higher jumper and physically strong. individuality does help but it applies to all races equally. some races showboat others beat the game mentally. (hence why hockey doesn't have mix tapes) haha nothing wrong with it, both work ,just diff styles.

  • The training technique is a matter of triggering the proper muscle... you wont do slow squats to trigger type II muscle fibers like you would in plyrometrics... its called the principle of specificity. This video is a display of another principle called individuality... these are the cards he was dealt at birth... the white n black thing... yes it is true, certain races have certain muscle types.. in return, ull never see usain bolt run a marathon or neil armstrong run balls out fast.

  • @KevinFlanneryForever yeah, indeed, but grabbing the rim is one thing and dunking is other, second, the endurance factor is another prob! i grab it some times when in a good day and that doesn't mean shit! when you get tired and don't jump as well as other days then guys that have 19 inch vert and are like 6,3 tall versus somebody like me (34) 5,65 feet tall and quite athletic are a nightmare, cause they get much more easy than me or other shorter guys up there!

  • So I won't lie the skills he shows are fairly impressive, but using 100lb dumbbells for 1 legged squat isn't the greatest thing in the world, and his "385lb" squat... that was a box squat.. if that's the case I can squat bout 550. Squat without a bench to sit down on and explode off of. he has skills, but he tries to make it out like he is strong as hell... and he really isn't, he has some work to do, but maybe he will get there.

    I've played with guys with 40+ verticals. They could get their elbows in the rim. Get above the square above the basket.

    I don't see that kind of elevation in his dunks and layups. But he's a hard worker and that will get him far...

  • I don't think his vertical is 43 inches.. I mean he's an outstanding athlete, but if it was 43 inches his head would be 4 inches away from the rim and this is not the case. Anyways, you are still a tremendous athlete and keep up the good work.

  • He doesn't jump 43 every time he jumps. He isn't going to walk up cold and jump a 43, but when he warms up properly, loosens up his hips and ham strings, and stretches correctly, he can get it.

  • You measure vertical in a completely different way. Gray's vert was measured with a device called a vertec. A 46" single leg box jump is awesome.  Let's see you do it!

  • Strength and size arent necessarily correlated to one another. Size is mostly due to sarcoplasmic hypertrophy which gives no strength gains, and strength gains are due to myfibrillar hypertrophy which dont give much size gains but gives strength gains. This guy seems like he does low reps with high weights which is more geared towards the latter, strength gains.

  • I think the video is impressive because it shows not that he's amazing, not that he's going pro, not that he's better than you, but that this kid worked his butt off to reach the level of athleticism he's achieved.   • this video is inspiration- I'm 6', 200lbs, white, and 24 years old (this shit is way easier to develop when you're in your teens). I went from grabbing rim with the tips of my fingers 3 years ago to dunking for the first time this year (i'm almost getting two hand alleyoops). Props to this guy though- i have yet to meet someone close to my height who can jump this high

  • couple of things... 1) max squat...385 is nothing..you should be doing that for at least 3 reps..

    2) put your heels on the ground when you bench and dig em in to the ground.

    3) when you sprint, lean over more..your too upright to quickly..
