France doesn't actually have a universal healthcare system, you'll seldom find a French citizen who will even refer to it as such. What they have is a mixed system with both private and public options. On the contrary, the French look down on the socialist systems in Britain and Canada.
u are totally wrong, and for the record,i lived in france germany and now here in the US.
What is considered private insurance in france or germany etc...is not what the fuck and scam we have in the US.....their private insurance is totally something else, than what we have in the US that is also private insurance. So dont let the uneducated americans bit eon your statement.
And for the recorded, the healthcae in france is called publicly funded fully covered health insurance
@muratshawn If you're correct, then I guess I have some faulty information. But what if there's somebody in France who wants to pay for a private physician out of their own pocket. Is that option available?
in germany for an example, everyone has universal health care, bt you can also buy private insurance and added to to the universal...but what Private insurance in germany and in most european countries means is, you get always a private room, u have the right to be only seen by the senior physicians etc....kinda like flying first class u know.. So what we have and only have in the US called private insurance has nothing to do with private insurance what europeans add to theirs
You really don't know what you're talking about, they do have a unviersal healthcare system and that from 1945 just like all the other euro countries... Check your facts or have a look at wikipedia next time dude....
Lol, this is so ridiculous. Coercive Sector Medical Care is criminal and all of the individuals upholding it should be charged as such. Everything should be voluntary, the opposite of criminal socialism.
The 56% of medical care that is part of the criminal, coercive sector is why there are problems with this service, not because of a lack of criminal coercion.
@manhunt48 The Criminal State should not exist, arbitration and fire services should be provided by the voluntary sector, not the criminal coercive sector run by coercive criminal unions.
Anyone that violates the Non-Coercion Principle should be charged as such.
@manhunt48 Northern Somalia 1991-2005 advanced in every sector except education services faster than any other country on the African Continent, while your model Southern Somalia was complete chaos.
The coercive criminal State should not exist, anyone that violates the Non-Coercion Principle should be charged as such.
@manhunt48 It is no longer free because of footstools like you having the UN invade them, can you move to countries most under your ideology, such as Cuba or North Korea?
@qwertypoiu4321 My ideology?. . . So you think you're a mind reader now? and you think that ideology is that of " such as Cuba or North Korea" You need more practice because you're fucking shit at it.
@qwertypoiu4321 oh and the UN has nothing to do with it. . . either shut the fuck up and move there or admit you're full of shit. . . you people are fucking ridiculous. You complain and bitch about the government but you're always the first to go to it and cry for help when things aren't going your way.
Sure we are. I can more easily buy a gun in America and exercise my inalienable right to protect myself than in France. The French believe that you should just let a guy rob your house and kill you if he so chooses. Also, we don't have silly "hate speech" laws like France. Brigitte Bardot actually got arrested simply because she expressed her dislike of Muslims, as if her views hurt anybody. In no way are the French freer than Americans on any issue.
Bill Maher is FULL OF BULLSHIT! America has the GREATEST Healthcare system in the WORLD! America PWNS France in healthcare! President Palin will completely WIPE OUT govt run socialist healthcare and convert them ALL to the SUPERIOR privatized American system! NO MORE GOVT HEALTHCARE for it is an EPIC FAIL!
(Sigh) How would the insurance companies and hospitals making money interfere with people's healthcare? Like I said before, people who can't afford healthcare should receive government help from the taxpayers. The incentive to make a profit is what drives businesses to make or sell something good.
Sure it is. Your logic seems to be that, since healthcare is a necessity, nobody should make a profit on it. Well, by that logic, nobody should make a profit on food, clothes, or housing, yet people do. See, you're an idiot who should think before saying something stupid. Profits and competition are what make services good. What kind of fool would want a government monopoly on healthcare? A monopoly is never as good as competition.
With food and clothes, you can choose between Old Navy and Nordstrom,or Walmart and WholeFoods, no such choice in healthcare?
Even with public option, wealthy will have their "private hospitals" like they do in Canada and Hong Kong; rich kids go to private school and the rest go to public.
Why shouldn't healthcare be private? because it IS out of control. Crooks on Wall Street survive because people who lost money but can still make it; but people who lose their health cannot.
There ARE choices in healthcare, though. People choose which insurance plan to buy, and they can choose what doctors to see.
I'm all for government regulating private insurance companies to make things more fair. However, I still think that they should be able to exist and compete.
dont you get it, we are the ONLY nation on earth that has a private run, profit making health insurance system, no other country has that, because they do not allow scam, profit enter into their system, that involves human lifes and their health, what does that tell you about our country and society, how we treat our own citizen,we have corrupt system, that literally kills people to make money...not one single civilized nation has that. I am shocked folks like u still dont get it
Like I said to skayloss, food, shelter, and clothing are also necessities, yet nobody seems to care that profit exists in those things. Why just healthcare? I'd much rather have competition in healthcare than a government monopoly. I have no problem with a public option, but people should also be able to keep their private insurance if they want.
aren't they? nobody forces you into buying into a public option! it was always planned that you could stay on your private plan, if you liked to!
i am german and have a "preexisting condition" - i couldn't buy private healthinsurance here, too expensive.
but with our public option i can get the treatments i need - and that's good! i never waiterd longer than 3 hours to see a doctor, normally i wait about 20 min.!
and if a child is born with any defect, it's still covered...
BTW, I looked up this subject on the internet, and we're not the only nation that has for profit healthcare. Australia has "for profit" health insurance companies. Also, Bill Maher should be ashamed to call himself a "libertarian" while saying that there should be no profit in healthcare.
@ecwaufisxtreme I seriously doubt you've ever been to every country in the world, or even France, and therefore cannot make the statement that 'America pwns France'.
Second of all... Palin??? Palin is the most utterly retarded person to ever even attempt to run for president. She doesn't know shit about the world or how it works - just about Jesus.
and thats coming from a dumb fuck, who has never ever lived in a country that has universal health care...
I truly hope, if one of your own kids has ever cancer and ur loving private insurance company decides to kick your kid out because it has cancer....I wanna see you whore skanky butt, begging the government u so dislike to help you out,why your own insurance company u so much love kicks ur kid out...and makes u owe 200K haha...u dumb fuck!
@ecwaufisxtreme The Government pays your local police officers (via taxes)... why shouldn't the Gov also pay for healthcare??? I think it's a great idea. It *could* be set up in an affordable way. That way nobody will die or lose all of their money because they lack insurance.
French people hold their gov't accountable in real ways, unlike here in America where we elected Bush not once but TWICE. The French are much more liberal and tolerant, although some French leaders on the issue of Muslims and religion make me queasy. France is full of culture. It's got the fucking Eiffel Tower, one of the most awesome structures built by man!
France is one of the major birthplaces of the ENLIGHTENMENT, for christ sake. When I hear these assholes on the Right bitch about it like it's some kind of demon from Hell, I just wanna grab them by the throat. It's ridiculous! The French Revolution was one of the first pro-liberty, pro-democracy (at the start, anyway, before Robespierre and such hijacked it) movements in Europe. French people actually TAKE ADVANTAGE OF their political system and protest regularly. They don't take shit.
@whoo689 France helped America out in the Revolutionary War, too. My hometown of St. Louis owes its very NAME to a former French king.
Alexis de Tocqueville, btw, wrote a VERY interesting book that praised America in the 1800s for its society and culture in many ways. He was FRENCH, if you didn't catch that.
France has many problems, but religion and universal health care is not an issue. All those people in the media rolling their eyes when they here the word France have no idea of how a French citizen lives.
bill smokes so much dope, that his ignorancy of 9//1, hey Bill aircraft fuel is JP8 aviation fuel, other words a refined clean diesel. you can get a glass of this fuel and put a match in it and it will put the match out. Bill go get educated biy your ignorant
nice job bill! you call yourself a libertarian yet you like socialized medicine. please bill, do a little reading so you can accurately understand libertarian philosophy because being a libertarian myself, it is embarassing when people link me with an idiot like you.
even if the U.S. were to lead the world in treatment of cancer/heart problems, what good would it be if it is being poorly administered and highly selective based upon income and factors, such as if the condition could be determined to have predated the implementation of the insurance policy. 45,000 Americans die each year to due the current inefficiencies of our healthcare system. If we reframed that statistic within the context of terrorism, the nation would be outraged! it's not right
I am not denying the U.S. healthcare system is perfect, it needs reform to tackle the rising costs, but for god sake's lets not remodel it after canada/UK/France, etc.
@surgedark except for the bit where you pay $300,000 for a hospital visit and if you have a heart attack or you get cancer your kids will be denied coverage by any heartless bunch of assholes commonly known as insurance companies.

I remember when I got food poison, I managed to get diagnosed right away and treated unlike having to wait in huge lines to get a simple check up like they do in gov't run healthcare nations.
Bill Maher is a fucking moron, I wonder if he intentionally skipped over the fact that the USA ranks number one in treating all cancers and all heart problems?
U are an uneducated idiot. I am in the medical field, and if you know anything about anything.
German is actually the leading country as far treatments and even cure for Cancer goes.
But In the US of course, no one will ever mention that or admit that...because the media and everyone else wanna make it look like we are number one in everything lol
In europe u see the doctor faster with less time, then americans waiting for the fast food burger in line. Dummies!!!
actually you're wrong:) In countries which were dependent on Soviet Union medical treatment isn't perfect. You should realise that Europe is not only France,England or Norway or Switerland. Some time ago in Poland where i live in dead our minister of health who was the first man who did the transplantation of heart. After his death our med.treatment is in ruins.People have to wait many months the more serious operation to be taken.
Hey, I know how many countries belong to europe, but it doesnt take much to realize when I say european countries i am talking about developed european countries, such as germany, england, switzerland, france, spain, italy, austria, Netherland,Belgium,Sweden Norway,Finland ....Poland does not have the strong secure structure like germany or france, its different there, croatia has the same problem.....
From countries you wrote only three of them took part in the WW II. There are many countries that should be mentioned when you are talking about europe.Countries like Poland had enough honour to said 'no' to nazists that's why i'm proud of being Polish. We are mounting an EURO 2012-football championship so I hope the level of our health system will increase:)
False I got sick in Europe and was not taken care of for along while. They were over stuffed with patients and I just got stuck in a room full of sick people. You are part of a group that likes to complain-try traveling and learning before speaking
As a lifelong American citizen, who has family in France, i know firsthand about the French healthcare system. I got into a car accident near Lyon, head on. Being in the back seat saved my life, but i was severly injured and spent 3 weeks in intensive care. The doctors & nurses were overly attentive, a psychiatrist was came to see me daily to help deal with losing loved ones too. I was never charged cent. If this had happened in the US, i'd be screwed financially.
When I took my girlfriend to germany to visit family, she got sick, nothing major,no emergency or anything, but she did not feel good. i got her an appointment with my former primary physician,i called him and he said come on in (yes the doctor came to the phone personally) within 20 mimutes he saw her checked her out gave her few drugs and she was better the next day. It did not cost a thing and made a joke saying to her in english "lucky u're in germany ey,its free" and smiled....
@craplander I see you read the British tabloids. For youre information billy-bob those Health Scare sotries are Exaggerated bullshit I can believe you bought that.

Maher's mother was a French whore who took it from the back by a German Nazi. Go back to where you came from BILL. America doesn't like you because there is a difference between being freely stupid and choosing stupid on purpose like your parents did.
not really, because In France and in other european countries they have something we dont have. Free Preventive care, meaning "Conoloscopy, for free,Mammograms for free, Cancer screening/test for free...even if you have cancer, the treatment, the cure, the surgery free....
so People dont have cancer as much as americans do to begin with, therefore you can not compare the rate really...imagine,obese,fat out of shape folks we have in the USA, something u barely see in europe!
[so People dont have cancer as much as americans do to begin with]
early screenings do not "prevent" cancer. If there was a cancer vaccine I'm sure we'd all use it (well, unless you listen to stupid anti-vac idiots like J Mcarthy). Europeans smoke more too. And yes, the USA has a fatter populace, certainly. But to say it is "rarely" seen in other areas is over reaching. I'm NOT saying the US is healthier, I'm just saying your premise is wrong, so be careful of your conclusion.
personally Japan has the best Health Care System I recomened researching it, Because this is what Obama is trying to bring to the USA. But those teabagging and their whores from the pharmacudical companies and Insurance Industry.
I work for medicare. Most of the people I speak with who comment on healthcare reform are simply afraid the currebt system is being replaced with a complete mystery. They have not explained it well and are essentially asking folks to trade what they have for "what's behind door #2". It scares them. I'm for change, but there is too much riding on it for "typical politics" to prevail. Enough pork could be added to sink us.
...Great Moments in Socialized Medicine From The Only Western Nation Thats Managed To Partly Dismantle(over the last 30 years or so, and as much as it can) Its Public Health System. I love that you hate the British system so much (and rightly so) because it just proves a point. Not yours though.

The WTO did say France had the best health care;however, I am not with Bill on kissing the French's ass.
They don't like the United States; if it were not for us they would be speaking German.
They have some good qualities but Bill forgets; he would not be living in his Multi Million dollar house here in Beverly Hills or driving his 60 thousand dollar car if he lived in France.
I am sure he does appreciate France, from a distance.
I think its actually the other way around, most uneducated americans do not like france, nor know where france is even on the map, those were the same people who wanted to change french fries into freedom fries, not realizing, Fries has nothing to do with france and we are the only nation, tha associated fries with french lol.for your records,Bill Maher drives a 35k hybird car.
France do not dislike us,they disliked the presidency during Bush era.Their reason to dislike us,was more valid, then ours
@andante24 If the Spanish and the French hadn't saved you would still be a British. Also I traveled to Spain and believe I saw ferraris parked in some streets. So don't call them broke countries, you should also thank China if it weren't for them during WWII you would be Japanese.
I'd be willing to bet farting loud is just about the length and breadth of your intellect and furthermore, YOU are the one that initially brought up guns and Switzerland. I'm perfectly willing to carry this tangent to its logical conclusion.
Uhhhh no.. An ACTUAL buffer against foreign invasion, domestic insurrection or natural disaster. THAT is a "well regulated militia". THAT is why a "well regulated militia" would need to have weapons ready, THAT is why the Swiss model of national defense is in the spirit of the 2nd amendment, NOT I repeat NOT the NRA. Do you know I had to join the NRA to attend a gun show? Just another PAC. Like ACORN.... You dont "speak" very well
Uhhhhh no.... The three branches of American government are in theory supposed to provide the checks and balances. The 2nd amendment was implemented to provide for the national defense. Against say, the English. Like in 1812....
Oh my fucking God, OK I get it now, you think I am literally comparing modern day Switzerland to Colonial America... OK, no there was no time travel involved,Nostrodamus didnt "foresee" anything and passed it down throught the ages or some shit... BUT...
Compulsory military service is an age old means of/for national defense. Its WHY your average Swiss male between the age of 18 and 45 is armed to the teeth, its WHY the founding fathers saw it fit keep the general public armed.
They "issue" guns because in Switzerland all able bodied men of a certain age are subject to compulsory military service. Personally I think the 2nd Amendment should go hand in hand with compulsory military service.
The difference is, in swiss you have intelligent, smart, caring people with manner and respect living there.....you truly compare or even put switzerland in the same sentence with the USA???
Switzerland is completely independant from any country and they are the only nation that does not kiss any ass of any nation.....they have non of the problems or issues we have or other have...more importantly, they do not give a shit.Thats why they are independent and dont need anyone!!!
The implication of your comment, that is the extrapolation you made based on a few cases, is patently absurd. Besides, your comment is irrelevant - given that no one is proposing a British style NHS HCS, nor, alas, the French system. Your comment suggesting that Alaska is more wealthy than the UK is even more absurd than your first statement. The UK has the 6 largest economy in the world. London is one of the financial centers of the world. The UK is one of the centers of human civilization.
your basing your arguements on conjecture and hearsay NOT facts, Craplander. Socialized medicine works and has worked very well in many other countries without all the bullcrap you make up.
You just said it yourself. In a non-profit system, the money is spent on assets, doctors etc. In yours, it must pay shareholders and who knows what else... I don't see how that's "a good system."
So that's your answer about my question regarding "people who can't get insurance but want to?" Medicaid helps them. Does it cover all their expenses? And do literally "all of them take advantage of Medicaid benefits?" Also, why is it all so complicated? And why would there be need for profit in a healthcare system?
Does it happen that someone can't pay the bill because it's too much, but he/she isn't actually poor either? Also, Medicaid ans't what You would call socialism then? Also number 2: those who haven't got insurance but want it, what stops them from having one? (And why is the system good if you can be stopped from getting care?)
Apart from any numbers, statistics, or anything more complicated, which could be disputed, what speaks to me, an outsider, about how bad your current system is, is the whole idea of a "pre-existing condition." Of course, you may not get insurance for an already smashed car. But not getting medical insurance, because you have an illness? It just says "business" and "making profit" to me, which is I would never want that to do anything with my healthcare, even if my system has its faults.
Example, t my plcxe of work. One of my co workers, had cancer 5 years ago.Breast Cancer. After it was treated and cured, but during that time she lost her job. So while being unemployed she wanted to buy "health insurance" not one insurance company would take her, because she had cancer. The only way,now has healthcare is because she got work and its employer based coverage if she gets cancer again, her insurance from work, can cancel her at anytime. We have the worst cruel system, not safe at all
"Yeah...'cos who cares whether healthcare is free or not? OK, so America is the last western nation to deny treatment to it's citizens, because a few million people can't afford Medicare and they're ineligible for Medicaid...big deal! It's their fault for being poor and not reading the small print! And the UN thinks EVERYONE should have healthcare? What a bunch of leftist commie bullshit!"
Thanks, craplander...I think I've got the jist of your argument. I'll be on my way now.
You are one pathetic dude. You are swedish dude, you are not an american, you do not live in our country nor experience the corrup system. But yet, you live in a country in whcih you receive unlimited medical care for life for free,no matter what Illness you have. But yet, as a non- american, foreigner basically you tell us what the deal is? What a wanker!
In our country, even if you have insurance, the insurance company does not have to cover you, even though it says it would, its corrupt!!!
I mean look, how much taxes we pay in this country and how much is being taken out? and what is our benefit from paying taxes so far in this country? what do we get back,or what benefit fo we receive for paying taxes. Can anyone name one single thing? and don't u dare mentioning roads and bridges lol
In europe, people pay more in taxes, but look what they get back - free healthcare for life, Education/college basically free. 4-6 weeks vacation each year. There is no limited how often u can be sick
Craplander does more than injecting anti-solcialism in each of his posts. He's also rude, injecting every insult coming to his twisted in each of them.
And he's unable to make a clear and well argumented point.
He doesn't like Great Britain for whatever reason and he knows nothing about French Healthcare system, that's all I understand.
You know, the French, the Germans,Italians,English folks, they all have complains about their own system too, BUT, what they complain about, would be "paradise" if you could ever complain about the issues they do. We behind every single european country as far healthcare goes. Not one single european, would EVER exchange their health care with any american, not even if that american is "rich" what does that tell you,how secure, safe their universal health care is.
That's funny...I thought the World Health Organisation was run by the UN, not Ralph Nader.
Maybe he's the secret leader of the UN...after all, it's all a left-wing conspiracy to undermine the glorious 37th best health care system in the world, that all the commie-loving top 10 countries are jealous of.
I love how craplander injects "socialist" into just about every response. I smell a parrot who cant think for himself. BTW, Britian is NOT a socialist country nether is france dipshit.
Wow...another shock! When I show you numbers that highlight how US healthcare is corrupt with greed and inadequate for the poor, my numbers are wrong...but when I ask YOU to show me numbers that suggest otherwise, you run for cover behind: "Errr, umm, Americans don't need stats to back up their arguments."
Its hard to explain an avarage american why universal healthcare is great and better, because A,alot of them are dumb, B they do not even know what universal healthcare is, B, they have never ever been to europe, nor lived there, not to mention, not have a passport, C they are ignorant. They do not believe in helping others out in need and do not believe we are one nation in the same boat. They do not get the concept,of paying into one system and thus, everyone is covered, for any illness 100%.
I know one opinion isn't the world, but still thanks for saying all that. These were my thoughts, I just didn't want to believe that they really wouldn't want to help other citizens of their country that way. It's quite sad...
Yeah, but thats reality, there are truly 2 americans in the united states. One the selfish ones and the others, which they call liberals, who believe in being one and helping eachohther out.
I believe by helping eachother out,we all pay taxes, and if some of our paid taxes goes into one healthcare system, that one system pays it all - single payer system. I know its sad,but they once who dislike the idea are the same folks who say "why should my money help your illness?" That thinking is sad!
It's not gonna be an interesting conversation if we agree about everything :P How much of you there think like you do? I wanna meet all! XD But seriously, nice to meet an American who thinks very much like me (being a person not from the US).
There's a difference between helping people and having the government taking your money, with some of it helping people who need help, some going to people who are lazy or drug addicts, and the rest lining the pockets of politicians.
emir, stop whining about the lazy drug addicts... you already pay for their free health care. all the lazy drug addicts have to do is go to the ER and get free care because they are there. it is the law the ER accepts them. the crack heads just leave without paying and you get stuck with the bill because the hospital rolls that loss into your bill. just type in EMTALA to google. who would u rather give ur money to? the government or corporate america?
The politicians are so deep in the corporations' pockets anyway. I'd rather not give it to a corrupt government. I wouldn't mind it if I knew ALL of the money was going to go back to EVERYONE in the community and to help infrastructure for EVERYONE but that is not the case.
What a shock - another number that must be "left wing propaganda" because it reflects badly on US healthcare.
Alright, let's try this the other way around: why don't YOU show ME the numbers on how many Americans aren't covered by Medicaid? Hell, if you're feeling really brave, why don't you also try digging for evidence that US insurance companies DON'T prioritise their own profit margins above delivering care to their customers?
And another thing: you've got a lot of front saying you're "skeptical of WHO's numbers", when you've openly admitted you wanted the numbers on cost and availability omitted from their study. That isn't skepticism - that's advocating the distortion of data "err, let's leave out the numbers that make the US look bad, huh?" motivated by blatant bias.
Quality of care - which is, by all accounts, excellent in the US - is not why it scored so appallingly low. Over 40 million Americans are denied care because they can't afford insurance, and many more are cheated out of their care by insurance companies who prioritise denying as many claims as possible, in order to maximise their profits.
I think the fact that you wanted the WHO to ignore these problems in their study speaks volumes about your unwillingness to acknowledge them yourself.
OK, let me get this straight: you think that the WHO ranking is biased because it factors in availability and cost of health care...which presumably you don't think are important considerations for a health care system?
Call me crazy, but I think those are actually pretty damn ESSENTIAL measurements of decent health care. What good is quality of care if your citizens can't access or afford it?
If English healthcare is "fucked", why does the WHO rank the UK's healthcare 18th in the world, compared to an embarrassing 37th for the US? You have worse healthcare than COSTA RICA for fuck's sake...and you're the richest country in the world.
I'm not arguing that UK healthcare isn't also in need of reform...we should also rank a lot higher considering our own wealth. But the relative rankings of our two countries show just how ridiculous America's paranoia of "socialism" really is.
Oh, and I read the "Question the doctor..." article, by the way...and I can say with absolutely certainty that the two or three cases mentioned are NOT representative of typical medical practice in the UK. If it were, it would have sparked a national outrage years ago.
No, you're not exaggerating...you're flat out lying.
I'm English, I've lived in England half my life, so please...take your ridiculous bullshit about doctors committing people for wanting a second opinion elsewhere. Like to Alaska.
This guy is nothing more than a condescending atheist who snubs anyone who doesn't agree with him. Socialized medicine/nationalized health care would be a huge mistake for the Americans to make.
It would ration health care, it would create yet another large government bureaucracy that would be very difficult to get rid of (Great example of this in the UK), and of course, the majority of the American people don't want it, which is reason enough in itself.
You are wrong, the majority of people do want it,idiot. Obama promised that 24/7 in his presidency run...so guess what We voted for him, we won, so its gonna be our way....
When Bush was the President, all the liberals and people against the war protest it....Bush still and went with his idea and way...
Now its our time. I mean every single human knows,we have the worst healthcare system on earth!
Not one single european would trader their health coverage with any american!NEVER!!!
No, I'm afraid I'm not wrong. Every poll says more Americans prefer the current health care system over a government one. If you honestly believe we have the worst health care system in the world, then you are truly living in a fantasy world. When government gets involved, things turn to crap. It may work ok in a country like Denmark that has 5.4 million people, but in the U.S. it will not work.
You know the government you do dislike is the same government who u choose to represent us. Its WE the government. I rather have the government take control of the healthcare cost than a greedy profit making insurance company controling my healthcare decision. How can any person even slightly agree that a insurance company should be in charge of your healthcare???? insurance companies can ONLY make money,by not paying for your illness,or do anything to avoid it or use the cheapest way out
France doesn't actually have a universal healthcare system, you'll seldom find a French citizen who will even refer to it as such. What they have is a mixed system with both private and public options. On the contrary, the French look down on the socialist systems in Britain and Canada.

in germany for an example, everyone has universal health care, bt you can also buy private insurance and added to to the universal...but what Private insurance in germany and in most european countries means is, you get always a private room, u have the right to be only seen by the senior physicians etc....kinda like flying first class u know.. So what we have and only have in the US called private insurance has nothing to do with private insurance what europeans add to theirs
muratshawn 5 months ago
@muratshawn You are right, but please notice in France that they (right wing government) are trying to remove the universal healthcare system.
It's funded by companies and workers as "contribution" (taxes if you prefer). The biggest part come from the companies.
By making gift for the biggest companies, the funds are no longer sufficent and the system is goind down. Just like any corrupted system.
Now every year we have to pay more and more for the "hole of the social security".

@Edgehead10075 America is hardly more free than any other.
trecool9992 10 months ago
Sure we are. I can more easily buy a gun in America and exercise my inalienable right to protect myself than in France. The French believe that you should just let a guy rob your house and kill you if he so chooses. Also, we don't have silly "hate speech" laws like France. Brigitte Bardot actually got arrested simply because she expressed her dislike of Muslims, as if her views hurt anybody. In no way are the French freer than Americans on any issue.

Why must healthcare be government run? I can see government helping to pay for those who can't afford it otherwise, but it should be privately run.
Edgehead10075 10 months ago
@Edgehead10075 Because human life is more important than money ! That's obvious !
skayloss 10 months ago
(Sigh) How would the insurance companies and hospitals making money interfere with people's healthcare? Like I said before, people who can't afford healthcare should receive government help from the taxpayers. The incentive to make a profit is what drives businesses to make or sell something good.
Edgehead10075 10 months ago
@Edgehead10075 healthcare is not a business...
skayloss 10 months ago
Edgehead10075 10 months ago
@Edgehead10075 Yeah but based on the facts our gouvernement run heathcare is better that USA's

Crooks on Wall Street survive because people who lost money but can still make it; but people who lose their health cannot.
umbdude 10 months ago
There ARE choices in healthcare, though. People choose which insurance plan to buy, and they can choose what doctors to see.
I'm all for government regulating private insurance companies to make things more fair. However, I still think that they should be able to exist and compete.
Edgehead10075 10 months ago
@Edgehead10075
dont you get it, we are the ONLY nation on earth that has a private run, profit making health insurance system, no other country has that, because they do not allow scam, profit enter into their system, that involves human lifes and their health, what does that tell you about our country and society, how we treat our own citizen,we have corrupt system, that literally kills people to make money...not one single civilized nation has that. I am shocked folks like u still dont get it
muratshawn 10 months ago
I'm pretty sure that other countries do have private health insurance companies.
Making a profit is INCENTIVE, and people who are pleased with their health insurance shouldn't be forced to go into a government program.
Edgehead10075 10 months ago
Like I said to skayloss, food, shelter, and clothing are also necessities, yet nobody seems to care that profit exists in those things. Why just healthcare? I'd much rather have competition in healthcare than a government monopoly. I have no problem with a public option, but people should also be able to keep their private insurance if they want.
Edgehead10075 10 months ago
@Edgehead10075
aren't they? nobody forces you into buying into a public option! it was always planned that you could stay on your private plan, if you liked to!
i am german and have a "preexisting condition" - i couldn't buy private healthinsurance here, too expensive.
but with our public option i can get the treatments i need - and that's good! i never waiterd longer than 3 hours to see a doctor, normally i wait about 20 min.!
and if a child is born with any defect, it's still covered...
m0rbusPolytox 10 months ago
I don't have a problem with a public option, to be honest. Hopefully that idea will return.
Edgehead10075 10 months ago
BTW, I looked up this subject on the internet, and we're not the only nation that has for profit healthcare. Australia has "for profit" health insurance companies. Also, Bill Maher should be ashamed to call himself a "libertarian" while saying that there should be no profit in healthcare.
Edgehead10075 10 months ago

even if the U.S. were to lead the world in treatment of cancer/heart problems, what good would it be if it is being poorly administered and highly selective based upon income and factors, such as if the condition could be determined to have predated the implementation of the insurance policy. 45,000 Americans die each year to due the current inefficiencies of our healthcare system. If we reframed that statistic within the context of terrorism, the nation would be outraged! it's not right

LeoMikey80 2 years ago 4
Exactly,
When I took my girlfriend to germany to visit family, she got sick, nothing major,no emergency or anything, but she did not feel good. i got her an appointment with my former primary physician,i called him and he said come on in (yes the doctor came to the phone personally) within 20 mimutes he saw her checked her out gave her few drugs and she was better the next day. It did not cost a thing and made a joke saying to her in english "lucky u're in germany ey,its free" and smiled....

not really, because In France and in other european countries they have something we dont have. Free Preventive care, meaning "Conoloscopy, for free,Mammograms for free, Cancer screening/test for free...even if you have cancer, the treatment, the cure, the surgery free....
so People dont have cancer as much as americans do to begin with, therefore you can not compare the rate really...imagine,obese,fat out of shape folks we have in the USA, something u barely see in europe!

early screenings do not "prevent" cancer. Uhhhh no.. An ACTUAL buffer against foreign invasion, domestic insurrection or natural disaster. THAT is a "well regulated militia".

Besides, your comment is irrelevant - given that no one is proposing a British style NHS HCS, nor, alas, the French system. You just said it yourself. In a non-profit system, the money is spent on assets, doctors etc. In yours, it must pay shareholders and who knows what else... I don't see how that's "a good system."
HUNDOLOS 2 years ago
So that's your answer about my question regarding "people who can't get insurance but want to?" Medicaid helps them. Does it cover all their expenses? And do literally "all of them take advantage of Medicaid benefits?" Also, why is it all so complicated? And why would there be need for profit in a healthcare system?
HUNDOLOS 2 years ago
Does it happen that someone can't pay the bill because it's too much, but he/she isn't actually poor either? Also, Medicaid ans't what You would call socialism then? Also number 2: those who haven't got insurance but want it, what stops them from having one? (And why is the system good if you can be stopped from getting care?)
HUNDOLOS 2 years ago
Apart from any numbers, statistics, or anything more complicated, which could be disputed, what speaks to me, an outsider, about how bad your current system is, is the whole idea of a "pre-existing condition." Of course, you may not get insurance for an already smashed car. But not getting medical insurance, because you have an illness? It just says "business" and "making profit" to me, which is I would never want that to do anything with my healthcare, even if my system has its faults.

S7kip77 2 years ago
You know, the French, the Germans,Italians,English folks, they all have complains about their own system too, BUT, what they complain about, would be "paradise" if you could ever complain about the issues they do. We behind every single european country as far healthcare goes. Not one single european, would EVER exchange their health care with any american, not even if that american is "rich" what does that tell you,how secure, safe their universal health care is.
muratshawn 2 years ago
That's funny...I thought the World Health Organisation was run by the UN, not Ralph Nader.
Maybe he's the secret leader of the UN...after all, it's all a left-wing conspiracy to undermine the glorious 37th best health care system in the world, that all the commie-loving top 10 countries are jealous of.
garethac81 2 years ago
You mean that life experience you made up 5 minutes ago?
CunniJA2 2 years ago
I love how craplander injects "socialist" into just about every response. I smell a parrot who cant think for himself. BTW, Britian is NOT a socialist country nether is france dipshit.
bobgrimly 2 years ago
And your "life experience" trumps a global study of healthcare systems by a leading organisation in the field?
Like I said, pathetic. Don't worry, I'll "get fucked" now...have a good one, 37.
garethac81 2 years ago
Wow...another shock! When I show you numbers that highlight how US healthcare is corrupt with greed and inadequate for the poor, my numbers are wrong...but when I ask YOU to show me numbers that suggest otherwise, you run for cover behind: "Errr, umm, Americans don't need stats to back up their arguments."
Pathetic.
garethac81 2 years ago
Its hard to explain an avarage american why universal healthcare is great and better, because A,alot of them are dumb, B they do not even know what universal healthcare is, B, they have never ever been to europe, nor lived there, not to mention, not have a passport, C they are ignorant. They do not believe in helping others out in need and do not believe we are one nation in the same boat. They do not get the concept,of paying into one system and thus, everyone is covered, for any illness 100%.
muratshawn 2 years ago
I know one opinion isn't the world, but still thanks for saying all that. These were my thoughts, I just didn't want to believe that they really wouldn't want to help other citizens of their country that way. It's quite sad...
HUNDOLOS 2 years ago
Yeah, but thats reality, there are truly 2 americans in the united states. One the selfish ones and the others, which they call liberals, who believe in being one and helping eachohther out.
I believe by helping eachother out,we all pay taxes, and if some of our paid taxes goes into one healthcare system, that one system pays it all - single payer system. I know its sad,but they once who dislike the idea are the same folks who say "why should my money help your illness?" That thinking is sad!
muratshawn 2 years ago
It's not gonna be an interesting conversation if we agree about everything :P How much of you there think like you do? I wanna meet all! XD But seriously, nice to meet an American who thinks very much like me (being a person not from the US).
HUNDOLOS 2 years ago
There's a difference between helping people and having the government taking your money, with some of it helping people who need help, some going to people who are lazy or drug addicts, and the rest lining the pockets of politicians.
emirpasha23 2 years ago
emir, stop whining about the lazy drug addicts... you already pay for their free health care. all the lazy drug addicts have to do is go to the ER and get free care because they are there. it is the law the ER accepts them. the crack heads just leave without paying and you get stuck with the bill because the hospital rolls that loss into your bill. just type in EMTALA to google. who would u rather give ur money to? the government or corporate america?
clayfromsanantonio 2 years ago
The politicians are so deep in the corporations' pockets anyway. I'd rather not give it to a corrupt government. I wouldn't mind it if I knew ALL of the money was going to go back to EVERYONE in the community and to help infrastructure for EVERYONE but that is not the case.
emirpasha23 2 years ago
Oh, and I DO know who Ralph Nader is. Sorry.
garethac81 2 years ago
What a shock - another number that must be "left wing propaganda" because it reflects badly on US healthcare.
Alright, let's try this the other way around: why don't YOU show ME the numbers on how many Americans aren't covered by Medicaid? Hell, if you're feeling really brave, why don't you also try digging for evidence that US insurance companies DON'T prioritise their own profit margins above delivering care to their customers?
I'm waiting...
garethac81 2 years ago
From Unsettling Scores: A Ranking of State Medicaid Programs :
"It is estimated that approximately 60 percent of poor Americans are not covered by Medicaid."
Your response?
garethac81 2 years ago
And another thing: you've got a lot of front saying you're "skeptical of WHO's numbers", when you've openly admitted you wanted the numbers on cost and availability omitted from their study. That isn't skepticism - that's advocating the distortion of data "err, let's leave out the numbers that make the US look bad, huh?" motivated by blatant bias.
garethac81 2 years ago
Quality of care - which is, by all accounts, excellent in the US - is not why it scored so appallingly low. Over 40 million Americans are denied care because they can't afford insurance, and many more are cheated out of their care by insurance companies who prioritise denying as many claims as possible, in order to maximise their profits.
I think the fact that you wanted the WHO to ignore these problems in their study speaks volumes about your unwillingness to acknowledge them yourself.
garethac81 2 years ago
It's actually less than 40 million when you factor in the approx. 15 million illegal immigrants.
emirpasha23 2 years ago
OK, let me get this straight: you think that the WHO ranking is biased because it factors in availability and cost of health care...which presumably you don't think are important considerations for a health care system?
Call me crazy, but I think those are actually pretty damn ESSENTIAL measurements of decent health care. What good is quality of care if your citizens can't access or afford it?
garethac81 2 years ago
I'm sorry, what's your point?
Your last post made no sense at all (bad syntax).
garethac81 2 years ago
If English healthcare is "fucked", why does the WHO rank the UK's healthcare 18th in the world, compared to an embarrassing 37th for the US? You have worse healthcare than COSTA RICA for fuck's sake...and you're the richest country in the world.
I'm not arguing that UK healthcare isn't also in need of reform...we should also rank a lot higher considering our own wealth. But the relative rankings of our two countries show just how ridiculous America's paranoia of "socialism" really is.
garethac81 2 years ago
well said my friend!!!
muratshawn 2 years ago
Oh, and I read the "Question the doctor..." article, by the way...and I can say with absolutely certainty that the two or three cases mentioned are NOT representative of typical medical practice in the UK. If it were, it would have sparked a national outrage years ago.
garethac81 2 years ago
No, you're not exaggerating...you're flat out lying.
I'm English, I've lived in England half my life, so please...take your ridiculous bullshit about doctors committing people for wanting a second opinion elsewhere. Like to Alaska.
garethac81 2 years ago
This guy is nothing more than a condescending atheist who snubs anyone who doesn't agree with him. Socialized medicine/nationalized health care would be a huge mistake for the Americans to make.
emirpasha23 2 years ago
Why don't you give us one reason, one logical and valid reason, why universal healthcare would be a mistake in the US?
muratshawn 2 years ago
It would ration health care, it would create yet another large government bureaucracy that would be very difficult to get rid of (Great example of this in the UK), and of course, the majority of the American people don't want it, which is reason enough in itself.
emirpasha23 2 years ago
You are wrong, the majority of people do want it,idiot. Obama promised that 24/7 in his presidency run...so guess what We voted for him, we won, so its gonna be our way....
When Bush was the President, all the liberals and people against the war protest it....Bush still and went with his idea and way...
Now its our time. I mean every single human knows,we have the worst healthcare system on earth!
Not one single european would trader their health coverage with any american!NEVER!!!
muratshawn 2 years ago
No, I'm afraid I'm not wrong. Every poll says more Americans prefer the current health care system over a government one. If you honestly believe we have the worst health care system in the world, then you are truly living in a fantasy world. When government gets involved, things turn to crap. It may work ok in a country like Denmark that has 5.4 million people, but in the U.S. it will not work.
emirpasha23 2 years ago
You know the government you do dislike is the same government who u choose to represent us. Its WE the government. I rather have the government take control of the healthcare cost than a greedy profit making insurance company controling my healthcare decision. How can any person even slightly agree that a insurance company should be in charge of your healthcare???? insurance companies can ONLY make money,by not paying for your illness,or do anything to avoid it or use the cheapest way out
muratshawn 2 years ago
socialized medicine? sense when are we socializing our medicine?
