You're an idiot, drummer, Mayer has toured (and is doing an album right now) in a trio including Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan, both legends, and they make incredible music. John Mayer has done more for music in this decade than anyone I can think of, and all this is besides the point, as his acoustic guitar playing, which you hate so much, is absolutely brilliant. He does more with an acoustic guitar and his voice than most people do with a 5 man band.

he's boxing himself into one genre. sure acoustic guitar is great, but he has so much talent that he could put to use in reggae, jazz, fusion, rock, folk, country, or hell, even metal music. but he sticks to his indie rock and makes himself only appealing to one genre of listeners. a true musician breaks down genre barriers, something that he has failed at conclusively. maybe he has his manhood or whatever (that words meaning is murky) but he doesn't have the qualities of a great musician.

That he chooses to play more acoustic (not true) doesn't mean he's wasting talent; he's rather using it for something that doesn't have your preference. I don't dislike acoustic guitar. I merely think that it is illogical to stick to such a small range of music. Maybe he's not exactly wasting his talent, but he's not utilizing it to his full capabilities. he's boxed himself in.

and i say manhood is murky because most people think that watching football, eating steak and having a beer gut is manly. well i'm a vegetarian, i prefer non-competitive sports and i don't drink alcohol. i still have a penis though, and i'm sure John Mayer does too.

ive only seriously seen john mayer use the standard open C chord one time. he uses SRV and Jemi Hendrix chord variations. His G is a variation of the G bar chord using his thumb, and muting the A string. This is why he sounds unique most of the time...
