"Algo" is off the Derby trail as well as Consortium and Junebugred - so far.
I agree Hansen will most likely not get the 1 1/4 in the Derby with his current runnig style. He's a tough little horse but it requires more than heart to run that far.
if chad brown brings street life around in the next two to three weeks, HE will be one to watch,
horses just dont come home the final 70 in 4 seconds...not the way he did it...i meen barely out of a lope. I have to believe that chad brown atleast enters him in the gotham...with all the speed sighned on so far in the12' derby future...el padrino and street life look offlee intriuging.
grade 1 as a three year old; 1 turn miler maybe the kings bishop or amsterdame at saratoga, if this horse does win the gotham. guarentee they probley skip the wood. hopefully every chalk speed player bets him down to 6-5 in new york....i'll get a price on Alpha...or street life if all the stars alighn rite.
This was good for Hansen. It will teach that idiot trainer the NEED to hold the horse back. It is unbelievable how hard that horse was working to get to the lead. If they can understand pacing and swinging that momentum toward the back end of the race, Hansen will be very tough to beat. If not, he's going to be buried in the Derby. He has a ton of talent, but I dont understand how they think that horse will run over a mile competitively with that style.
@Sportsguy574 I know right? Well it is the first time he has lost going at it like that.. this horse has great potential and it kills me to see them pushing the horse from the very beginning and letting him run like that... I really hope they'll stop doing it. Also he would have lost Breeders cup juvenile if union rags was pushed a bit more... I can't believe that can't see that lol
@MyJumper21 alot of "tapits" can be "run-offs" tapizar is the same way. hanson has got issues as we get closer to the big dance, baffert alone has like 4 speed types, derby first half; sub 46 and a deep closer like the past 4 outta six years.....just my opinion.
Hansen was not cranked to win this race. He had nothing to offer when being over taken. Ramon hit him 5 times and 2 of those time were to keep from jumping the rail. He was just looking to run in a race. If this wasnt the derby campaign he would have probably scratched but because he needs to be fit he went on to race here. I dont think he has a shot in the Derby but this race meant nothing to his camp other than getting him fit.
No excuse for Hansen, but i honestly felt that the early fractions cause him the race taking the track condition into effect. I would not agree that he was short conditions like those feels like another furlong on these animals hence he would appear short. Better luck next time to the connections.
there has been no reason to teach the colt to rate up till this point. He won the championship because of his running style. Now if they have bigger goals it's time to get to work but i think we all know this horse is looking to the kings bishop and not the derby
@mikiebarker He only lost because of his dumb ass jockey. 1. He almost fell 2. He ran him really hard 3. He had NO stamina left. 4. He never ran on a sloppy track. I train horses like him at Belmont Park and all i gotta say is he needs a better jockey!!!!!!!!!!!! I say he would of won if he saved some ground and ran by ahead in front and paced him he would of won probably by 4 lengths. :P
I've bee saying it over and over in every comment section on every racing web-site I can find. I think Hansen's got a ton of heart, and ability to match. But unless Mike Maker teaches this colt how to rate, either when he's on the lead, or even if he happens to be in a race where's he's 1 or 2 deep off of the pace, he's not going to be any factor at all in the Triple Crown races, This break from the gate, and go, go, go will have him cooked by the top of the stretch in the Kentucky Derby. TJMO
@Beachrunner333, that's a shame if Mike Maker can't teach this colt rate? I would love to see Hansen dropped back maybe just 1 or 2 deep off of the pace, and see how he would do at 1-1/8? I'm sure the off track didn't help a whole lot in the Holy Bull, but the way the running style this colt has right now is just not conducive to the running style needed to win races on the Triple Crown grind. TJMO.
Hansen got beat and beat bad. Surface is not the issue, over hyped horse is what it is. If the Derby comes up sloppy at Churchill what is Hansen gonna do?. Union rags romped in the slop, and on a fast track. The fractions were decent but not super fast, so The jock is not at fault.
@bettorBware - He is a good one, but we will see who makes it into the gate in May. Hansen will be a good miler, and probably in the BC Dirt Mile at the Breeders Cup. I want to see this Spring Hill Farm horse. He posted a work, but very little info on him. I am sure by the time March hits will have a decent idea who will have a Shot in the derby, and which others will be filling the rest of the 20 horse field. You have a good pick...El Padrino, nice horse.
@TicinoParadise agreed 1 turn miler at best, not to say the horse cant win going two turns, he has, but from 2 to 3yrs old is quantom, most will agree a good amount of ALL two turn juvi. races are won on the lead...for the most part 2yo's run as fast as they can, as far as they can....union rags. bad trip a good wide punch. thats why hes still top five on the derby watch and hanson is top 20. I think hes really gonna get found out in the gotham.
I have to agree with BigBrown, Hansen just didn't like the footing. Hansen is a front runner and that's how he'll race every time just likes he's done in his past three races. I'd also you've liked to see a few more works in him as well.
I also like Fort Loudon, i think he'll run better on a fast track, It will be interesting to see how he moves off of this race. Maybe Tampa next for him?
I don't think it was the fact that he wnt to fast, I dont think Hansen loved the track all that much. Coming into the stretch he lost grip of the surface a bit and veered in slightly and he didn't kick home as fast as I thought he would. I thought he could have had a couple more works into him before this race, but I thought he ran credible. His stride has changed since the fall, he takes longer strides now, so he has matured. I'm not his number one fan but I think he's getting better.
@BigBrown2332 Are you his jockey, or have inside information from what the jockey said? Just looking at the tape, I would say he took him a little fast.
@riderupjockey I did not say that he did not go fast, I simply stated that I don't think that he lost because of the fast fractions he ran. He did go exceptionally fast, but i think the track may have been to his disadvantage, plus I think he could have had a couple more works into him before this race, I think he was a bit short, but he ran a credible race, and the trainer should be pleased with his effort.
Too much speed too early, should have pulled back, saved the horse and waited until the final stretch to let him go. At this rate, we'll have a Triple Crowner in... well, never...

This was an $80,000 public work. Why would you send him to a :45 half? I would like to know what Michael Maker told Ramon Dominguez in the paddock.

If you think Hansen can get 1 1/4 you need to have your head examined.

Yep, and he earned his Derby money already. No pressure to win here.
Fractions were fast, so a great race by Algorithms, very talented horse. Easy, very easy exacta.

first race back off a layoff, he was a little fresh. i think the main goal is to win a race in may, not the holy bull going a one turn mile in JAN.
