I graduated from MMI in 2005. My first industry job was at an aftermarket shop paying $10/hr. I got an offer 6 months later from a Harley dealer for $12/hr. After 2 months they bumped me up to $13 and then fired me less than year later because I was looking for a job that paid more. Found another job at a dealership starting at $9. They said the most they could pay me $11/hr. I'm still paying for that student loan, but I'm making nearly $20/hr now driving a delivery truck. Go figure.

I graduated in Jan. 1994 and it's STILL hard finding a job. I STARVE every winter and when I do work, the pay usually sucks. They've flooded the job market with rookies that only last a year or 2 if they manage to find a job. I still do it because I LOVE motorcycles... I wish I'd become a chef though. Tired of being hungry and broke. I've got bitchin' bike though.

Find a old shop that well established and offer to work for free if you have to.

Learn from the old timers,anyone down there willing to teach or show you.

stop whining people, i'm from Greece and i went to a school that i thought was the equivalent of MMI or Wyotech. After i finished i decided i want to move to the States to live.But then i found out that me degree was nothing in America, worthless, just a piece of paper. Somebody even told me that the education at my school, apart from the technical courses, is the equivalent of a hischool in America. @RichSweat1 what i meant to say, was that, when you go to sign up at a school of this kind, don't just sign papers willy nilly, you should ask specific questions and demand documented answers in plain English, not the fancy terms they use so you don't understand anything...and finally, don't just rely on the school to take care of your life, because you are the only one able to do this. MMI will provide you with a degree and some basic knowledge, so it's up to you to put that in good use

If you go to school for them to find a job for you ... dude ... go back to WalMart seriously. You go there to study and they help you give small steps towards your carreer job but they are never employment agencies, they are just a school where you learn to after-perform. Just stand up, print resumes, build a portfolio/website and go look for a job.

The way they teach you is amazing. they drill it in your head and make sure you know what your doing. Tutoring is free and i did it just to be more confident in the work i was doing. Honda instructors at the Orlando campus sure know how to teach. Ive done 6months in hondpro and 3 months in yamapro. to get a job you cant just slap your certificates on the table and expect a job.

this school is definetely a scam... reps even lie to students about courses they offer to get kids there.. a few years ago the school was legit but its ben commercialized. good luck getting a job. that 98% placement rate is complete bullshit. most students i know here only know one person whos gotten a job. also they offer no job placement like they claim. a large group of students and myself have a lawsuit in the making against the school. my advice is dont bother. job shadow instead

I am about to graduate in a month from the phoenix campus. This school is in no way worth the money you pay to attend. In my experience this school is a joke. You really learn nothing more about working on motorcycles than you get out of a service manual. The greater majority of the instructors have been here too long and are tired of answering the same stupid questions, and giving the same boring lectures day in and day out. They are their for the paycheck only. Dont wast you money.

I'm about done w/ Clinic #1. True, the classes are overcrowded and I waste half the time waiting for instructor verification before moving onto the next assignment. But I agree, don't let that stop you from attending school! Just be prepared to deal with asshole classmates who make themselves out as "experts" and will do everything in their power to convince you that THEY are right and you are WRONG.

Check around before you go. I'm hearing from real world mechanics that it costs A LOT and you're guaranteed to start at around $10 an hour max. On that you can't even pay back the student loans.

HAHA this is so true. I graduated from BMW and Suzuki in 06. The school is worthless. Starting pay for a tech is about $10. Basically all you learn is how to change a tire. In this industry its all about connections and who you know. Go to a supercross/motocross race and ask the techs if they went to MMI and they will all say no. I got on a race team because I worked with a guy who does it. Dont waste your money.

depending on location,skill,and salary negotiating skills. a top level tech makes between 21-35 dollars per hour. a new tech who is good ,probably about 16-20

MMI is a good school. I graduated in September of '05. I had a great time, made a lot of great friends, and learned a lot. However, don't expect to get rich as a motorcycle mechanic on Harleys or import bikes. I soon found out after graduation that MMI grads are a dime-a-dozen. If you don't like what they pay, they say, "Fine. We'll just hire some other MMI rookie for $9/hr." Not an industry to make any money, that's for sure.

Depends on what you take. So far Im taking Honda and Beemer and it is 25K. Im taking it all out on a loan and I have 10 years to pay it back after i Graduate. I think the payments are going to be 189 a month. How much you make depends on what shop you work at. I chose BMW because it looks good on a resume, and BMW techs make a lot of money. If I were you, I would take 1 import of choice and either Harley or BMW, or both if you can afford it.

i am a 1998 MMI grad. deans list. zero hours missed. motorcycle mechanics need to get unionised to get better pay. i left the industry to goto the diesel industry for easier work for more money, better benefits...bitter about leaving what i loved doing. motorcycle mechanics dont get a living wage. its a dead end street while fat cats get richer and richer. Harley could step in and make minimum wage but they don't. customer suffers because of lack of experienced mechanics. sad.
