  • This Is truly an amazing song for the Irish People. My grandma used to sing this song to me as a child.

  • What's with all this stupid bickering going in the comments? Shut up and enjoy the song.

  • beautiful song and video! Thanks for sharing and I will also share on FB...

  • I want this video on my 9090 unit.

  • i cant understand bro.

  • There are so many things wrong with this video and the comments for it I don't quite know where to start. So, here are the top 3 things that most offended me. I have been born and reared in Ireland, am a native Irish speaker and have studied Irish literature, music and history to third level.

    1) If the video poster's intention was to post pictures of Irish scenes in nature or history you have failed tremendously.

    2) Gaelick (sic) Vs Celtic?! Please do explain.

    3) It is NOT Erin go 'bragh'

  • stunning vocals and pictures...i watch this over and over...

  • This video is a favorite on Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • help im a first year and im doing a festival soon and i need an irsh folk song to sing

  • First song of Ms Dover's I've heard. Terrific song and a lovely voice.

    Long live Irish brothers!

  • Wonderful and calming.....thanks you sharing this. Greetings Jim

  • I love the tin whistel

  • Magical recreated nation isles we used to be and are, hanging on the western end of europe. Inside me, deep, this is me, and many many others, all round the world, originally from here in their ancient genes.

  • The wikipedia entry says this is the translation:

    Go, go, go my love

    Go quietly and peacefully

Go to the door and flee with me

And may you walk safely dear.

  • Here the wikipedia link to the translation.

    Siúil A Rúin

  • I'm from Saudi Arabia...every summer i spend my time on the British Islands ..i'm crazy about it and it's people .. Peace ,peace and peace for you

  • @RainDrops054 Haha...just dont call Ireland a British Island when you come back here! you might not get a good reaction

  • @RainDrops054 When I say, whenever wherever I find myself myself in the World I find myself, when I say I am from the Western side of old people from mainland here, and they look in my eyes and hear me, they shake my hand, and want to praise me, in a little way. Calon haf i pawb - a summer's heart to you all, frindiau bach ar a byd hon - friends small like me on this World of ours.

  • @RainDrops054 That is all and nice but this song is Irish and about Ireland, not the British Isles.

  • @RainDrops054 Im seriously insulted ireland is not part of britain and is not in the british isles.

  • Pretty, thanks :-)

  • Siuil a Ruin in Gaelic is more or less Walk My Love.

  • That is the most beautiful version I've ever heard. :)

  • A Greek...

Brothers from Ireland dont give up,keep your language and your traditions tight, dont let anyone take them from you...

Your thirst for freedom reminds me the Greeks...

Your lamentations reminds me the Greek lamentations...

    We are brothers to soul...

Dont let your wonderful civilization to fade,if it fades, you ll loose everything...

They trying to do the same thing to Greece, and we are 'sleeping'...both our ansestors died for freedom and we dont do nothing...its a pity...

  • Beautiful! This makes me proud to be Irish! :)

  • Very beautiful.

  • it is gaelic, yes...and if anyone has a translation, that would be awsome...

  • @chrissteiner74 I have given the translation in my description!!!!

  • @chrissteiner74 the gaelic bits mean: from the Chorus Go, go, go my love Go quietly and peacefully Go to the door and flee with me And may you go safely my dear and for Is go dté tú mo mhuirnín slán And may you go safely, my darling
  • @chrissteiner74

Go, my love. The son is about a womans point of view on her lovers military career and her support of it.

  • @chrissteiner74 Siuil a Ruin means Walk My Love

  • Was this song made in Gaelick???? Celtic I could understand but Gaelick is a dead languge.

  • @DarkDragon14358 Gaelic is not a dead language at all you ejiot.Over a million irish speak it on a daily basis myself included all our road signs are in irish the rest of the country speaks it as a second language.and its gaelic not gaelick.

  • @JordoF6 And that is why I want to learn Gaelic/Irish.

  • @JordoF6 It's spelt Gaeilge.

  • @piechildofyore Yes i know i speak it.I call it gaelic though because i like the sound of it compared to gaelige.

  • for the soldiers of the 16 and may they ne'er be slandered for though they die they live on and their soldiers FORGET us NOT we of erinne will always stand strong though many may die our souls will fight on..... signed LEGION

  • Truly beautiful song. And amazing pictures. Listening to this takes you away from the troubles of the day, if only for a little while. Thank you

  • Your language is like the the language of the old fairies. It's nothing like I've ever heard. Keep it alive. Greetings from Hungary!

  • actually, that castle is not in ireland, ii in Munich, Baveria

  • actually, that castle is not in ireland, ii n Munich, Baveria

  • Also, to the three stooges who voted down, YOU. HAVE. NO. SOUL.

  • Her voice is so beautiful. Very haunting. I'm trying to learn this version, and once I acquire an ocarina, I'll be able to play the bridge. Yay for plaintive Irish Gaelic songs. Makes me proud to be an (American) Irishwoman. <3

  • ωραίο γούστο!

  • Makes me proud to be Irish !!!!!

  • Lovely... Just lovely...

  • this is wonderful!

  • @Demie11 its a real place the castle at 2:14 its a tour site in irland known as the adare estate castle

  • Connie Dover is a lovely Celtic woman & a fine frontier lass! She sings like an angel in Scottish & Irish Gaelic, Latin & English! She gets her kicks cooking on cattle drives & singing around the campfires.! She has a poetry book & answers her own email. Wow! Add Siuil a Ruin to Shenandoah & Sweet Betsy from Pike--songs that Connie has truly defined! I hope someday she'll come down from Missouri & do a Texas concert! Beautiful pix, too, it's a great video! Thanks so much!

  • Wow she sang it wrong... the first line is "I wish I were on yonder hill..."

  • WOW, ABSOLULTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Perhaps the most beautiful thing I have EVER heard ,and I have heard quite a bit of music from many different lands and traditions. The melody lends itself so well to the major/minor accompaniment so common to this genre of music. I also greatly appreciate the translation provided however, I still need to know how to translate "Is go dti tu mo mhuirnin slan", if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it! I would love for my kids to perform this song!

  • @k6musicteacher

"Is go dti tu mo mhuirnin slan" is "Stay safe for me, my beloved".

  • @SkugSkellum Thank-you very much!

  • great nature and music

  • Wonderful video...with images and paintings I love...I love the pre-Raphaelites painters...and the song is lovely..so evocative, so romantic...

  • How can I buy this CD or song. i've looked everywhere!

  • i rlly love this song...it is just beautiful....

  • A foreigner, living in England, engaged to an Irishman fluent in Gaelic, learning Gaelic... I can't hate the English. I'm sorry. Too many have died or become bitter in that conflict, and this is not the place for that argument, if there is any. This song convinces me that the Irish can make heart-breaking songs, and that I very much love their language, no matter how much I have left to learn. Some of the pictures are so lovely and fitting. Kudos!

  • wonderful..i love it!

  • I absolutely love this song! I bought the 'Celtic Voice's' CD back in, I believe, 1995 which has this song be Connie Dover & had 3 other Celtic female singers. It's a great CD. All of the females on that CD have angelic voice's. You'd think that I'd worn that CD out by how many times I've listened to it but it still works after 15yrs. Unbelievable, I can't believe that it's been 15yrs! You've done a remarkable job at listing the lyrics & selecting the pics for your video. Excellent job!

  • gROWING UP WHERE I ONCE DID... i LOVE THE gALIC .. HEART , TONGUE, SOUL & BROGUE :) tHE lASS IS JUST dARLIN SWEET AYE ?

  • Totally enjoyable experience listening & watching video - thank you

  • This is definitly the best version love it

  • I love this song I only wish I understood the language, I do NOT want to diminish it or the culture this is beautiful & perfect the way it is. The music is as beautiful as the language.

  • you gota love irish culture... its romantic!!!!!

  • This song is absolutely beutiful. I've been to Ireland and I can't wait to go back. I'm Irish and could easily move there.

  • I absolutely love this song, and with these pictures even more. Does anybody know where I can get pictures like these? Any websites?

  • Thanks for your nice commend, I have been gathering the pictures for many years, searching arthurian stories, and painters such as Waterhouse and other pre-Raphaelites and from National Geographic desktop pictures. I hope I helped you

  • @Demie11 this video is amazing! This amazing song makes me want to leave America and claim my citizenship of Ireland. I don't belong here, it's not home to me. I know nothing of American history. Only the history of Ireland. I am Irish American and come from Cork. I care so much about the Irish people. it's where I come from. God be with Ireland, Irish forever!! Erin Go Bragh! God bless!

  • @Demie11 ah, right, sorry, didn't realise that :) thank you for that translation, makes it much easier to understand the meaning of the entire song...

  • HAPPY ST PATTY'S DAY!!!!

  • Will is not so archaic. You still say 'And that is you will?' or 'I will it', especially in very formal situations, or situations with any level of formality. It's not uncommon. My fiance is Irish, and this brings back everything I have grown to love about his Irish family - their spirit, their survival, their mythology and their lovely language. I can see so why so many people wish to claim they're Irish.

  • Pure perfection!

connie dovers voice takes me to heaven,

gracful and tender, god bless her,

    thanks for sharing.

  • I like this version the most. Make me think..

  • Does anyone know who sings this version? is it available in itunes or amazon? This is my favorite version and i'd love to buy it

  • So "would" is the archaic past of "want", just as "will" is the archaic present of "want"?

  • I'm not against English people just want the Irish language and culture to remain.

  • @plejadok: ME TOO..

  • @plejadok same!

  • @plejadok A week ago one of my professors stated that the Irish language will unfortunately be among the languages which will disappear already in this century.

  • could cry.. beautiful! love Irish culture!!! so sad that the language is dying because of English effects..:'( hold on, Irish people!!

  • @plejadok Actually, the language isn't dying, the number of native speakers are. The only people raised to speak it before English are from the more isolated parts of Connacht (like me).

However, the number of people fluent in it is increasing, even if it wasn't their first language.

  • @Cainus44 Good to hear! Thank you for the information. Actually, I wasn't aware of the recent statistics but still, I think, it's worth dealing with the the issue.

  • @Demie11 It is a real place. It's a side view of Neuschwanstein castle in Germany. That said I don't think it is a photo of the castle, but the structure is a real place (and amazing to visit)

  • @Deindae

You are right: there's also a picture from Neuschwanstein castle in Bavaria (Germany) inside - but besides the roman and the germanic roots there are also strong celtic roots here. The celts were born once somewhere here in this area Bohemia - Bavaria - Austria - Switzerland or near by thousands of years ago. The palace of the king of the fairytlaes fits perfectly into this celtic song - so perhaps it was always there - since the beginning of time.

  • is the picture at 2:14 a photograph or a painting and is it a real pace do you know?

  • @MrSean677 It is Neuschwanstein like Deindae said. It is a painting though...because there is no lake like that near the actual castle. But still, that is an amazing place to go see.

  • @MrSean677 it is a real place and its located in bavaria

  • @MrSean677 its actually a real place in ireland its currently a tour site i went there once i cant remember its name but i believe it is the adare estate castle

  • Loooooove this song :) its so fun to sing.. absolutely gorgeous vocals.

  • Who sings this beautiful song please?

  • Hi it's Connie Dover!!!

    It is a beautiful version!!

  • @Demie11 There is another version by a group called Elane. Maybe you'd like that one also.

  • This is magic music :)

  • Breaks my heart.

  • May I ask whose pictures are there used? Especially those from the beginning of the song, that where are the ladies... I like it very much. And also the song is wonderful

  • Thank you for posting this video and song. The video is beautiful; as is this version of the song.

    Thank you :)

  • AWSOME SONG !!!!, COOL PICS!

  • what excites me about this version is that the gaelic has been carefully pronounced and a bit slower then normally sung which makes it much easier to try to learn the lyrics (I have been trying to figure out how to pronounce the gaelic for this song more accurately for ten years now)...

  • traditionally it is "rook" not "rock". in reference to the tools needed to render and weave cloth.

  • sheelz321 sent me this link and I'm so glad she did.

    Utterly Beautiful.

These songs always tell a moving story and they are a joy to listen to.

    Thank you HOCX

  • 2:51 Beautiful picture!

  • Have already commented but must do so again. My gt grandparents were Irish with Gaeligh as their first language. I love the plaintive-ness of this song which I believe dates back some 300 years. Thanks xx

  • Thank you for your nice comments, I don't have any Irish ancestors being Greek but I love this culture sooo much

  • beautiful - I'd only heard the Anuna version before this one - I love them both - they're so different

  • Such a beautiful version of such a beautiful song. I also really love the images you used- espcially the artwork- (big fan of pre raphelite art)

  • The singer is Connie Dover

  • Hi everybody. Thank you very much for the song, Demie11. This performance is better than Black or Kelly's. By the way who's the singer? Thank you again.

(If the answer has already been given, please excuse me for the trouble).

  • Hello!!Thank you for your nice comments, I found this version accidentally and i think it is from Anuna.I agree it is one of the best versions

  • This isn't the one by Anuna. Although I'm an Anuna fan, I really prefer this over their version. Its so much sadder, and prettier.

  • Yes my mistake sorry, it is Connie Dover!!!!

  • I love irish music.when you make it lively you go all the way, when u make it sad,put a man to tears.

love the gaelica.i'd appreciate if you put the translations, and the name of the singer.

    beautiful.absolutely beautiful.

  • Fantastic rendition. My 10 y.o. daughter is learning this song now....

  • God, i love this song. I only found it a little while ago but, being Irish and not knowing the first thing about my native music(Born in the U.S.) this song is like, amazing.

  • Salut!! About the pictures only a few are from Ireland (sorry). They are from all over Europe since I didn't have that many. I'm glad you liked it though.

  • It is also one of my favourite Irish songs. I love its story of love and pain. Just to notice: I think that the castle in 2:38 sets in Germany, not Ireland. But that's not a gross mistake. Ireland is a wonderful country, which represents the European soul. That could be weird but it is an actual song when we set the story with the wives of Western soldiers in Afghanistan ( I'm sorry if I shock some minds). Cheers from France !

  • buen trabajo!! poli kala... :D

    Irlanda!!! kouklara!!!

Preciosa!!!... que sentimiento de voz,,, que interpretación.. wonderful voice!!!!

    Who is the singer?

  • Praise indeed coming from a Greek, your nation the birthplace of European culture, thank you.

  • Thank you your words mean a lot to me since Ireland is in my heart. This video was made with a lot of love for this magnificent nation that has suffered so much but never lost its wit.

  • Excellent captions and beautifully rendered song.

Relating to the many thousands of Irish that migrated to fight in Europe throughout the 17-18-and 19th century, and if possible strike a blow at their English opressors.

  • Thanks for the nice comment. Although I'm Greek I appreciate and admire your culture and your music a lot..

  • good job amix
