sorry for any inconveniance, but does anyone has the source code please. It seems that the link JasperK91 posted doesn't exist anymore. JasperK91 can you repost it or send it to me(lenfant89@hotmail.com). Thanks.
@Grandboy3000 The term particle system refers to a computer graphics technique to simulate certain fuzzy phenomena, which are otherwise very hard to reproduce with conventional rendering techniques.
I think youre good I C and C++ - im not - im a beginner - and 12 years old -.-" - can you telle me how I can do a COUNTER with time and not a variable with a value of 50000 and then let count it down and if its @ 0 its stops... how I use time?
I strongly disagree with that, my first systems language was C++, and then i "upgraded" to D. Visual Basic has a syntax that is retarded as hell, forces you to use their proprietary compiler, and produces slow executables. Plus once you get into real languages, you'll still have to learn everything from pointers to basic debugging and how a computer really works. Don't waste your time on VB, learn python or ruby instead, which are still very useful to use along C++.
point6000x: You mean like a timer? You still gonna need variables.
Lookup the ctime header in your manpages, it should be something like
man ctime
I can't remember exactly and I'm on windows now 'cuz I wanna play some games from Valve.
I hate Microsoft, I think DirectX is a way of theirs to get a monoply on the market ( Most games uses DX, and you can only use DX on a MS platform.... So in order to play, you needs windows. Thanx to MS that they have a free RC for Win7 )
Hating M$ for developing DirectX won't make more games available for your Mac or Linux box. Write to some of your favorite game developers and ask them for cross platform games, and encourage others to do so. Finally, if it actually bothers you, stop playing games on windows; that's simple.
And on my Ubuntu workstation; I do work. And I guesses that I'm weird that installs win for a week or so once a year to take out my agressions ( or something ) in some bloody games, but I can't stay in win 'cuz it's stupidity makes me even more agressive ;)
I actually thinks it's fun to work - in Ubuntu; in winDOS it's just a pain...
@salmiak911 I use to do the same thing... Then wine was available. When I need to do other things like program in a windows environment, i simply use vbox. That doesn't work anymore though.... because libraries like directx are not supported. I need two computers... Or do a partition. I'm too lazy to do either one right now lol.
Great physics! With texture it will look just right. maybe you should also create the physics where the particles face angles depending on their velocity (eg., facing down when falling down) and maybe a transparency animation when it shrinks
I am 14 years old to :P And I am making a gami... But I am not using C++ I am using Dark Basic Pro and I rember the most difficult thing! It was the collision! is it hard to set up a collision between camera and aobject in C++?
Does dark basic have the "Type" function? if it doesn't you may want to try Blitz Basic instead. I can email you a copy of the installer if you pm me.
If you have a knowledge of object orientation, you should find making particle programs easier.
I'd recommend you first try something easy like CoolBasic. It's a free game programming language (most of the documentation is in a wierd language (finnish) but the forums are filled with people who like to help out those who don't understand it). Then move on to C++. I'm 14 and I can write somewhat simple OpenGL programs, like particle engines ( make this one to use textures, btw. otherwise its great) and I'm working on some kind of system to load 3D objects.
Man, thats nice. It kinda give me a boost 'bout C++. Still reading some beginner books, but really, as a fourteen years old it's kinda hard :P Even if algebra is easy! I just can't decide if it's going t obe DirectX or OpenGL :\
Almost every 14 year old gamers dream is to become a game developer. C++ made me become more handy in front of a computer. But also found that knowing a little bit of programming before starting at C++ really could help you alot :S :P
There's alot of books out there to help you out :) I found the 'Beginning C++ Game Programming' was really useful. However, it'd might not be as useful for nongamers: It explains everything in game possibilities. It's console application.
uhm... im 13... and i googled how to make computer games and stuff... got the aim name of this guy that helped me get started... ... im sure he wouldnt mind u askin some questions... pm me for his aim
