Great video! Getting distracted is wayyyy too easy. I'm a perfectionist so if there is 1 pixel wrong on my blog, I have to fix it.

my distractions seem to be networking. but if im not producing compelling content then those people I recruit wont last long. Thanks for the reminder!! I'm making mental note of it right now and list it as a rule in blogging!

Great content. other than health, time is our most precious asset... Many teachers on the net creating content on this problem...

Eben Pagan from Get Altitude created a killer course a few years ago on this topic called Wake Up Productive...

Of course his content sold out in a few days, both his live event and the product he marketed from the live event...

Great advice. Spending too much time on one thing is never good so there must be a balance between writing great articles, optimizing your blog to improve conversions, and also being out there and spreading the word about your blog. All 3 are very important parts of having a successful blog.

I get distracted by shiny things.. you know them.. those giveaways, free stuff, product pitches. I have to find a happy medium there. My blog is mostly a comic view of mother/womanhood but some how it's turned into a "LOOK AT ME, I HAVE FREE CRAP" blog.. HELP!!!

Since I developed a blog plan, my distractions have all but ceased. I blog Monday thru Friday, with special postson the weekends. But having a plan definitely helps.

I find I spend a lot of time on looking at web sites about new media and blogging. I probably should spend more time on the basics of good blogging and layout of blogs

Great vid, and a great insight - it was as though I was listening about myself. On the other hand, it's no matter what thing you are doing, it's just human nature to get distracted by other things. Just remember when you had to do some homework at school, suddenly you find yourself cleaning your house, washing dishes and etc. In this case we have blogging and such distractions as SEO, design .. But hey, these distractions are directly related to how your blog looks and works+generating ideas.

Honestly I think it's the complete opposite for me. Since I keep hearing (and knowing) content is king, I think I spend too much time obsessing over the content so I'm constantly reading books and tweaking the writing and because of that I don't seem to post as frequently as necessary and nobody sees it because there's not nearly as much focus on marketing.

Great advice. Luckily, I have my blog partner do the majority of the writing and I focus on networking/connecting so I can read all about blogging. Take that Darren! :)

Actually this still applies to me, because I'm in charge of the technical side of things, and I like you obsesses about design, plugins, etc...eeek..i'm getting better though, i swear!

It's all about the balance. Other activities can augment the blog, but without the blog as an anchor (containing useful content), the other activities can't stand alone.
