not to take away from any of these rides, but, these are the nominees? wtf. i know there had to be ballzier waves than that at least once, somehere in the world last year. i litteraly paddled into bigger waves than that on maui last year, and maui was crap last year

who cares? most of the best rides are never documented and most of the world's best surfers never get exposed because they don't sell out like the pro's do. billabong is mainstream commercial and so are sponsored surfers.

You can keep telling yourself that all you want but it wont make it true, you sound like one of those pretend purists with a chip on their shoulder. I have run into the type before, they are generally all just ego, think they are better than they really are and if they could would be surfing for a living as well.

Its not hard to just enjoy your surfing and leave it at that with respect to those who are good enough to make a life from it.

Hawaii is truly blessed insofar as to perfect surf. Saw Ala Moana small yet perfect on utube earlier. Too old to do the North Shore thing however the wife, daughter & this old bastard really want to see Hawaii and do a hui with local people. Tourist shit doesn't interest me- really wanna be one (if only for a day) with the tangata whenua- the people of the land. If not, bugger it- we'll stay at some hotel.
