I agree with what you are saying but one of the blackest white performers( Paul Simon) honored it by bringing to a white audience and giving the exposure it deserved
I for one am rocked by this group. I am 70 years old and remember when the REAL R&B singers sang and harmonized exactly like this. This is God's music. and guess what? I'm a Caucasian lady. So many Black songs were stolen by Whites in the 1950's, which I considered a crime. Thanks for moving my old soul one more time!! I would hug each one of these guys if I could. They are the TRUE entertainers. God Bless them!
Ira Tucker is my father. He's still alive. 89 years old singing since 1938. Real talk. I live in GA, he outlived my mother. God bless him with much love
The quality is not good on the vid, so it's hard to compare to Simon's studio recording. But to honest, I prefer the O'jays version that was in the film Fighting Temptations.
these men were singing before my dad was born and he is 80 years old. they were the world's best and they stiil are, in their hey day white folks, let alone black folds don't even come close, don't even come close, with your no signing, wanna be ass-ss
Is this the Oahu show in March 2006? I saw the one on Maui with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band.(3/2/06) They had the whole place on their feet singing and clapping as the two bands came together for a couple songs at the end of the concert. People were crying with tears of joy, it was a very moving evening to say the least. God bless Ira Tucker, his chariot has taken him home.
A clip of "Loves Me Like A Rock" without Paul Simon. Finally! I don't dislike his music, but were a white man to attempt Black Gospel nowadays... it's just wrong.
What are you talking about? How is that wrong? This version is okay..it is no where near as good as with Paul Simon though. I think that's a great thing that a white man has such an appreciate for gospel music. That's something we should embrace - when people can dig into other people's cultures and appreciate them
I didn't mean to offend anyone with that comment. I just was so excited to finally find this song unaccompanied by Paul Simon, even though clip doesn't showcase The Dixie Hummingbirds' talent very well. Their original records are really awesome. And not that I'm against whites embracing Black culture (I'm 1/2 white and I know I do!), I'm just annoyed with the The White Rapper Show and Vanilla Ice guys trying to be something they aren't.
Oh ok, I understand you now. And I agree with you about the that stupid white rapper show, it's ridiculous. They all look like fools. But Paul Simon..THANK GOD for that man. He found the Hummingbirds and the ladies who sang backup for him on that song, at the Newport Jazz Fesitval and he asked them if they'd like to play with him on his record and they said yes. And they created such a beautiful song in "Loves Me Like a Rock". What an amazing collaboration!

In reponse to profnachos question, the albums I found this song were:
"The Essential Paul Simon" (2007)
"The Paul Simon Antho;ogy" (1993)
"Here Comes Rhymin' Simon" (1973)
The latter album was re-released in 2004 with additional cuts, including a neat-sounding accoustic demo version. Hope this helps.

if thats the black version it`s pitiful. paul simon tore that song up. it`s infinitely better than this fiasco.

It is a cool and Jivey tune. Simon is an artist and this is a sweet tribute to his talent.
