As a USC fan I will admit that ND was a superior program from the mid 80's to the Late 90's. I was born in 1993 which was around the time the ND started to deteriorate as a football team but they still had our number with players like Reggie Brooks so im not a ignorant USC prick that wont admit that ND owned us But as much as I hate ND probably more than that school across town(UCLA) I still respect the shit out of them I also find them as our major rival. And we should have hired Alvarez as HC
@DT4FBB Hey why dont you shut up the refs blew the game when notre dame played usc do u remember the "bush push' shoulda been a flag and notre dame would of won the game.
My grandfather died this night....we were back from the hospital for a break after spending most of the last two days there, and watching the ND game, when my dad proclaimed at the end of the game, "ND is eventually going to lose a game, but not f'ing today!" Todd M. shouldn't have been such an ahole after SC's last score, came back to haunt him. That ND defense was stout!
I remember watching this game while I was in the Navy. I was SOOO pulling for Notre Dame in this game and when they fell behind 7 - 17 I started to have doubts. The Irish OWNED USC for several years in the '80s and into the '90s, but as of right now I'm not sure when they're going to beat the Trojans, again.
Yeah, well USC OWNED ND in the late 1960's and 1970s. 12-2-2 from 1967-1982. The only 2 ND wins were 2 of the 3 last ND Title Teams. USC won (with the 2 ties)ND every other game.
The series appears to be pretty cyclical. USC's had ND's number over the last several years but I'm not sure how much longer that's going to last now that 1) Brian Kelly is the head coach at Notre Dame, and 2) Pete Carroll seems to be running into a bit of trouble down in L.A. with "institutional control." I'm actually a fan of Coach Carroll's so I haven't minded seeing them win so much under him. But streaks don't last forever and I wonder how much longer USC's current one is going to last.
Up until the 2005 game, I always thought this was the most exciting SC-ND game I had ever seen -- despite the loss. The names playing in this game, and the fact that ND was ranked #1 added to it. The most exciting one I have been to was the '78 game when SC's Jordan kicked a last second FG to win it at the Coliseum. But the SC-ND games at ND Stadium always seem to have an extra element of excitement to them -- and will again someday.
I have to say I feel bad for him. I'm sure I don't know the full story but from what I've read he lived in a pressure-cooker until it finally was too much.
@ndunabomber do u know he got all his talent? he was also called the "robo QB" this was because he was trained every since he was little kid to be a football player. His life was football and working out. Thats why he had the build...he was working out ever since he hit puberty. His dad would stretch him when he was a baby to make his legs stronger and rediculous stuff like that. Yes he could have been great. But he hated his life. Thats why he turned to drugs
I used to watch college football long time ago. There was a period when ND would whip USC every year for so long I started feeling sorry for USC and wondered. "what rivalry?". This was about the same time when the National League had whooped the American League in baseball's All Star Game for like 20 years in a row. Then I stopped watching sports for awhile and I find out the streaks reversed!
Man was Tony Rice a great quaterback. Only now do you I realize how great a passer he actually was. That bullet to The Rocket was as well delivered a pass as youj can make. Clausen has that kind of accuracy as well....
Notre Dame, since they are an independant, dont have PAC10, Big12, SEC, ACC, or similar refs at their home games. If you really knew anything as a college football fan, you would know that Notre Dame has always brought in neutral or Big East refs for their home games. So shut the hell up before you say something you don't know about

Rudy Rudy fictional like the Notre Dame football seasons the last hmmmm !!!! USC forever if you dont like the Trojans great because we dont even care many have come and many gone one thing remains the same there is always something going on in L.A. besides USC football unlike Southbend IN who whats going on right now cold and snow Southern Cal was rank 9 not 1 like Notre Dame and Southern Cal was on the road
@RocketShark He's a typical USC fan. USC lost in the last game against the irish. They're losing in the series against the irish. They are gonna lose the next game against the irish.Their athletes only win at receiving extra benefits.
I followed the Irish since 1986, and I was there for the good times the Holtz years. However since 1994 we have been struggling to get back to national prominence, and I am still an ND fan through and through. The Davie years were tough, so were the Willingham years, and now Weis is giving me headaches, I was at the beatdown in 2002 in LA, the Fiesta Bowl fiasco against Ohio State, and then the following year against my better judgement I went to New Orleans and saw LSU beat us.
The difference between ND fans and SC fans we stick with our team through the tough times, because we know the Irish will be back, SC fans when times get tough, like 12 years in a row... crickets...crickets...where'd they go?
I would take Tony Rice over Brady Quinn on any given day of the week. Rice went 24-1 as a starter in his final 2 years, won a national championship, won both bowl games, and led Notre Dame to a school record 23 game win streak. Meanwhile Quinn went 19-6, lost both bowl games, and couldn't led his team to win over a quality ranked team. Quinn might have been the better passer and have all of the school passing records; but Rice had the leadership and skill of a champion.
keep in mind that much of the success by the '88 and'89 teams was because the defense carried them when the offense was sputtering. role reversal in '05 and'06: offense can score on anybody but the defense was shoddy. defense wins championships. Quinn was a better player than Rice, even tho his record is worse, if you're going on raw individual skill. Rice looked better and won more because the Irish had one of the nation's top defenses in the late 80s
Love to see the Irish beat those damn trojans. Even if its twenty years ago, its still great! Will be back soon. We have a good class, all academically elidgable, un-like the Miami's, Florida states, and LSU's.
I take it you're a fan of the 2007 national champion LSU Tigers. Not sure what a fan of the current best team in college football gets out of stumbling into a message board and talking crap against one of the current worst teams, but I'm hopeful in your case it's simply a matter of immaturity and in time when you reach adulthood you'll have grown out of such habits.
Its disappointing to see that we have never played four teams in the SEC, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, and Miss. State, you forgot to mention that ND pounded LSU in Tiger Stadium in 97' then played them in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport and lost, but if you watch video of that game ND was there, but didn't really show up.
