Yeah he played on three months on studio(january until march 1977) after he did all the gigs. He met Nancy during summer 1977 so he learnt to play without drugs a few times. He destroyed himself. I got few demos with him, he played not bad at all at the beginning, he was really keen to play.

I missed the Pistols by one year, I was introduced to the Ramones in early 1979 at the at of 14 by a kid from New York who moved out to Orange County with his family. He was strange alright, but I liked him. One day he introduced me to the Ramones after getting high at his house. A few months later I got a hold of Never Mind the Bullocks, the rest is history as they say. Bodies is the true sound of Punk Rock. No other band ever comes close to this energy, they created the blueprint for punk !!

Okay, that's the definitive evidence on whether or not Sid could play bass. At 3 minutes you hear him play with no Jones guitar overtop -- Sid's a bit shitty, but he's definitely hitting the notes and playing the part in time. And earlier on he manages some more complicated bits than that. I don't get why they didn't use his bass on Never Mind the Bollocks, then.

Sid played during Bodies, but that's it. On Never Mind the Bollocks Steve played bass. Sid was just in it because of the image, and he was supposed to learn how to play, but got caught up in the image and never learned. Lemmy from Motorhead even tried to teach him, but later claimed it was impossible. Sid's only true contribution is when he sings in a few songs.

Yeah, I saw the documentary too, where Lemmy claims Sid couldn't play *at all*. But this video clearly shows that is false. Sid could definitely play the bass. He wasn't Charles Mingus, but he could play well enough for 3-chord punk. I know he didn't play on the album, but I'm thinking, from this evidence, that he played more than he is given credit for at live shows. I believe John Lydon, who said that Sid could play fairly well when he wanted to (read: when he was sober).

The cool thing is when the guitar drops out, Sid is actually playing his bass. A year earlier he didn't know how, so they didn't bother turning his amp on. You can see this in the 77 clips from Sweden where he isn't even plugged in.
