I don't agree that he should be nominated for either best actor or best supporting actor. If they had a special category specifically for motion capture performances, that's a different story. This is an animation done by CGI artists. If it were makeup, it would be more understandable, because he would be in front of the camera working through the makeup for audiences to see. On top of that the CGI looks like CGI. So i can't get around that, it just honestly looks fake.

film awards are just so political. the critics always want the awards they give to reflect themselves in some way. RotPotA was a stunning film, and andy CARRIED it, acting wise. i have no clue as to why the hell the few, small nominations he did get for this film were for best supporting actor. CAESAR'S THE MAIN CHARACTER!!! james franco was just a 2D tool to emphasis caesars humanity. get a grip hollywood!

I'm not being funny but if he's such a good actor why do all his performances get replaced with CGI? And I watched the extras on the DVD of this and most of his "performance" was radically changed for the CGI completed version.

And the unspectacular cheapo ending of this film has to be seen to be believed!

The Academy have pretty much always been stupid. They never nominate films or actors in overall quality, they nominate films that deal with politics or war and get critical acclaim, and the actors in them. A good movie such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes would only get nominated in the technical categories (I'm 100% sure that this film will win Best Visual Effects) simply because it isn't, once again, a boring and pretentious political/war film.

That is completely stupid. Andy Serkis should not get an Oscar nom. He didn't spend the countless hours animating the models to match his performance. If anything, the CG artists should get it above anybody in the film.
