Thank you. I will try to make leather stamping designs and personal logos... I've used wood and lino media... Checkingbinto lead molds, but THIS process seems Awesome for 'stamping' into soft 8-12 oz vegtaned leather tooling projects...:)
the clay imprint technique just works wonders, now I can see what type of shape I have with out washing over with a washable dark color. thanks for the upload.
@SuchaCaligrrl Sorry for the delay in my reply. No there is no reason why it would distort or melt. I would recommend that you use something to create a seal over the clay before using it as a wax stamp, otherwise the wax is likely to stick to the clay. Perhaps an oil rubbed into the surface?
@brookfieldpottery No problem, I actually tried it. However I did changed a few ways on how to do it but the result is of course the same. I will have to say that I'm very pleased, I also sprayed with pam (non stick spray) just to prevent the wax from sticking... and I will have to say that it worked marvelously. thank you so much for the idea. You do not know how much money this has saved me.
I use a similar technique to make sprig molds. I cast smooth plaster and carve deeply into the plaster so the whole design is below the original flat surface. Then I press in the clay, use a cheese cutter to trim level to the flat surface and use a coil to pull the sprig, score, slip and stuck to my pot.
This video made my week. Seriously. I never would have thought of doing this, so simple yet brilliant. I was reluctant to make my stamp because I was taught to do so on the clay directly, I'm prone to messing up easily lol.
Thank you. Isn't it strange how simple some things can turn out to be. I only used this method to make my stamp because it is a technique I used in my sculpture when working on small detailed pieces.

Mark, Steve gave posted a nice comment for this 'how to' on Simon's latest video clip. So... had to come back for a visit. Might be a nice post holiday project to work on. I'm still signing my pots with oxides!

This is great thank you very much. Will the stamp get distorted or melt over time if I were to use it as a wax seal stamp?? Please advise.

Great description. Wedgewood jasper ware is a classic range using that technique.
I'm thinking of making a sprig mold seal for my larger pieces, giving them a medieval look.

By far and away the easiest way to make stamps I've seen so far.
