@Sephirothwolf they don't really have riggor, walking dead I thought sort of explained it because the virus pretty much turns the body back on. Riggor isn't permanent any way it goes away after a couple of hours. Running zombies is much more frightening than some crippled senior citizen stride. Shaun of the Dead thought so too.

@MetalforOden sorry to disagree but actually Simon Pegg hates running zombies too... Running Zombies are good for startling (Crimsonheads in RE being a good example) but one zombie isn't dangerous, they're meant to be a relentless wave, slow and shambling towards you so, after you kill so many your morale breaks and you get desperate, the best weapon a zombie has is human weakness and lack of discipline.

@Sephirothwolf The remake of dawn of the dead had running zombies and that was endless and hopeless, the zombies in walking dead sort of run and they are of endless waves also, that seems hopeless. Left 4 dead, also running, and endless, more hopelessness. same effect much less time to do something about it because they charge your ass down. Very much so more hopeless. I don't give a damn if Simon hates running zombies. We aren't in the 50s any more and the endless waves of slow seniors is out.

@MetalforOden not really, i fell asleep midway through the DoTD remake (i watched it again and isntantly regretted even watchign it) and got bored wiht walkign dead after 3 episodes and they don't even refer to them as Zombies in L4D. Either way i've just given up completely on Vampires and Zombies given the way both have gone over the past 7 or so years and no-one gives enough of a carp about werewolves to mess about with them.

@Sephirothwolf okay to you they are boring, to majority of people the fast pace aggressive primal zombies is much more frightening than the crawl of pace old school type. The remake dawn of the dead is the best thing that happened to zombie movies and any zombie movie (excluding the awesome Shaun of the dead and zombie land) after it sucks hard cause they tried going back to the roots and it just doesn't work for this era. There is a different dynamic for slow zombies and fast zombies (simplification). Since slow zombies are less of a threat, the emphasis is not so much the conflict between humans and undead, but the difficulty of surviving in a world lacking infrastructure WHILE this doom looms overhead. Meanwhile, more current zombie adaptations provide only an action movie view of a zombie ridden world

To say that remaking it as they did was for the best is to deny the original meaning of the film

@coreygames I actually get a stronger feeling of lack of infrastructure from the fast pace zombies. Fast moving zombies feels like the struggle for survival is that much more difficult and "zerged" Infrastructure is just out ran numerically and quite literally out "ran". The times are different and the very slow sluggish zombies just isn't frightening to majority of the population. If you are a cult fan of the sluggish ones you'll find your place in the underground.

I will agree that times have changed and that, realistically, slow zombies wouldn't stand much chance today with modern communication, but we are still talking about a movie here. If the director chooses so, the number of slow zombies can be increased to match the difficulty requirements to defeat a certain amount of fast ones, right?

The zombies are a plot device to force the characters to react, ultimately it doesn't matter how fast they move if their threat is equivalent.
