  • Haha you seem to quite like that Arsenice and Old lace scene!

Aww he's so awesom! Great vid good choice of music!!!

Btw...There's this movie Crack Up where I think he's absolutely gorgeous and I want to watch it so so so badly.Anyone knows where I can find it??

  • He's birth name was Löwenstein László. Hungarians never could do much right but they did have loads of first rate actors, directors and cinematographers

even those who didn't end up in Hollywood

  • If I may be so impertinent, what film is that with the zoom in on him lighting the cigarette at 1:46?

(I've spent about two months reading and watching everything on Lorre I could get my hands on...and I've had a blast.) (yes including all of Mr Moto)

  • @sclogse1 That's from Passage to Marseille. Have you read his biography, The Lost One?

  • @NeverDoubt1

Yes. Just finished The Lost One. Wonderful book. Now re-reading A Talent For Genius, the marvelous bio on Oscar Levant. I also recommend Michael Powell's two autobios. (Red Shoes, Black Narcissus, etc.)

  • HOLY CRAP HIS FACE REALLY DOSE LOOK LIKE THAT! Those WARNER BROTHER cartoons weren't lying. lol

  • he was a chain smoker :)

  • Did you guys know Peter was an original member of Bertholt Brecht's company of players?

  • @GanarfGeorgie Yup that's right, Peter and Brecht were very good friends both while in Germany and America. Peter's biography talks about the difficulty they had during the Communist witch hunt years.

  • @Heralde8 Thanks Heralde8!

I remember reading somewhere Brecht during the witch hunt era saying (to a college)

"I have escaped the tigers only to be eaten up by fleas!"( I.e. escaped the Nazis only to be harassed by McCarthy and his goons.) Man, sometimes real life is scarier than any monster movie.

  • @GanarfGeorgie The whole thing was pretty unbelievable just after WWII. The book talks about how Peter was trying to remain loyal to Brecht but also trying to keep his job at Warner Brothers. It was a difficult time for a lot of people.

  • @Heralde8 Sad but true my friend.

  • man, instead of using big bad voodoo daddy, you should use the world inferno friendship society. they made an entire concept album around peter lorre

  • many girls actually find him rather good looking. although he was a rather peculiar creature, he had a certain air about him. he doesnt posses the conventional good looks but i think thats what makes me like him. he has a gorgeous nose and mouth and those eyes that can go from bulging and creepy to bedroom like and manly in seconds. i bet he was good in the sack lol

  • Daylight see the dew on the sunflower and a rose that is fading roses wither away...

  • Anyone know where the tribute of Peter to the song 'Notorious' went? I just love that song. The pictures here are awesome!

  • Such big eyes.

  • Lorre was a great actor, biut why did he always end up playing this little weasely,

    creepy guys.

  • @MrBogleOgle The studio system was very much into typecasting actors into one kind of role. But it is strange how stubborn the studio was with Lorre.

  • This was really fun! Thank you!

  • I love him in the Man Who Knew Too Much. He rocks big time.

  • he was quite an amazing actor, i think my favorite role of his would be joel ciaro in the maltese falcon!

  • not really odd. i thin k there is something rather unique about him.

  • It may be odd, but I find him quite attractive.

  • Yeah, you and dozens of other girls, including me!

  • Including me too.. he was so attractive...

  • Look for Oskar Werner

  • @southerncoldwind Oh, I love Osar Werner!!

  • @IAmMySpatula: He was, lol.

  • He was great.

  • What Beautiful, Lucid Eyes he possessed . . . as Peter Lorre referred to them as, "Two soft-boiled eggs'. . .

    such puppy dog eyes ! . . .Mmmmm !

  • Oh yes,, he did have beautiful eyes...

  • I <3 the music with the clips! XD

  • Oh sorry, I didn't no. [(Terribly Sorry)]

  • That's weird I thought Lorre was at Lugosi's funeral because he turned to Vincent Price and said "We should drive a stake through his heart just in case." at least that's what I heard but I find it quite odd that Karloff didn't show up because although their relationship was rocky at first they in the end did become good friends. Hmm...weird...but I am sure Lorre and Price did go to Lugosi's funeral.

  • Neither Lorre nor Price were on the guest book for Bela's funeral.

  • His face often looked like it was dripping wax & his voice was like a strange wind squeeking your name through the cracks of a cellar door.

  • Peter Lorre could appear on the screen for only a minute and you could not keep your eyes off of him his performances were always mesmerizing.

  • He was soooo great !! I´m glad that he could make his successful way in Hollywood after he had to escape when the fu...g Nazis overtook the power here. Danke for the vid.

  • whom charlie chaplin called the greatest living actor of our generation!

  • gods help me, I love him!

  • er war ein unheumlich grosser schauspieler!

    dueses video ist grossartig!danke!

  • Danke

  • Jah, Sehr gut

  • Peter Lorre was a great actor. I love him because he was always so funny in his roles.

  • Thank you very much for the kind comment. I have heard of that anecdote and as much as I love it, it isn't true. Neither Lorre nor Price were at Lugosi's funeral.

  • I'd always heard that if was Karloff and Lorre who attended Lugosi's funeral...

  • Really? I haven't heard that one yet. Karloff wasn't at Lugosi's funeral either.

  • Lots of fun! Makes me wish I could just carouse and party with Peter Lorre! Love it! Have you heard this Lorre anecdote? At Lugosi's funeral, as Lorre and Vincent Price stood by the open casket, Peter quipped, "Do you think we should drive a stake through his heart? Just to make sure?"

  • great

  • Liked the visuals. The music reminded me of the Laugh-In joke wall for some reason.

  • I actually created this from the leftover clips from my Lorre, Lugosi and Karloff montage. I wanted to make it fun rather than dark and spooky. I thought the music matched Lorre's real personality.

  • The music was a lot of fun. If Peter had lived another four or five years, he would have been a perfect candidate for a guest spot on Laugh-In. I can just hear him saying in that German accent "Sock it to ME?"... Keep up the good work, Mr. Kubelsky.

  • Make that Ms. Kubelsky, and thank you.

  • Peter Lorre = One seXy beast baby!

  • He makes you want to do things to him that would really bring the 0:29 look to his face. He was so comic but it's magnificent how incredibly frightening he could be

  • Wonderful tribute. The many faces of a great actor. He really could do anything! Comedy, horror, drama. Class!

  • Forgive me while I weep with joy. :D Absolutely awesome. Thanks so much for creating this, and then sharing it! **bow bow bow**
