  • Hi there what you say is very true, however with goju it is not about how the kata looks but rather how it feels that is important, but the soft aspect is always the most difficult part to achieve. thank you for your comment.

  • goju is hard and soft and i agree...but you did the katas hard if your goju has a chinese back round it should be soft and whippy! am i wright??? kind regards kev...

  • TMA's finished? Tell that to George St. Pierre, Lyoto Machida or any of the Gracies. Yes BJJ can be considered a TMA because it was directly influenced by a Japanese TMA. The traditional martial arts can never be finished. If they are then there is no hope for the future of ANY martial art at all. They are a window into the past and a relevant resource for today. As long as there is violence there will always be a need to protect yourself.

  • @Natebaber Agree entirely, but you're slightly missing the point. The danger of MMA to TMA is distillation. When Chinese Sanshou was first codified after the Cultural Revolution, it had dozens of techniques. Now, it has a dozen. Thousands of athletes fighting each other for years under the same rule set shows quickly (and clearly) what the most effective techniques are (for those rules) and people concentrate solely on those. How many MMA fighters learn only Muay Thai and Nogi BJJ?

  • Oh I just read the answer to my question from one year ago (shame)

  • Perhaps I asked before, but this is old style IKGA (yamaguchi-ha) gojukai?

  • u mean sui lim tau. and its nothing like i at all. i did both and now i really hate karate.

  • @Brian66192 Looks to me somewhere between Sil Lim Tau and Sanchin Kata. That one techique in the center reminds me of picking the blossom like in Sil Lim Tau. Of course, this is only one opinion and to some would not make any sense.

  • similar to wing chun siu nim tau

  • ecept for the hard body i really dont like this kata dont worry every one i will make a new one and it will be cool and ill be called grand master :P

  • This is a waste of time. Practice shadow boxing instead. This does not prepare you for any type of self defense.

  • @clearcombat Apparently you have misunderstood the whole point of kata, it is like shadowboxing, but instead of mindlessly punching away in whatever way you feel like, you develop musclememory and perfect every individual technique.

  • @masterdimsen Shadow boxing is not mindless. It creates the way a fight could possibly go and at any time change. Kata is pre-determined. How do you know the way someone will move, you don't. bBreathing like that is so useless. Put him in a fight with me and I will leg chop him, then box his ears in. This is why mma has come about. Traditional martial arts are finished.

  • @clearcombat If you dont know the way a person will move what is the point of shadowboxing? doing shadowboxing is mostly used after researching whomever you're gonna fight, meaning you will know the way they will move or at least know their patterns. and breathing techniques are used in boxing aswell as wrestling and any martial art. And I know that shadowboxing isnt mindless, I were just mad at your mindless comment. and while MMA is getting popular, remember that its made from traditional MA's

  • @masterdimsen Hold on - shadow boxing is just a means of practising combinations and techniques to get them right... When you shadow box all you are doing is going through different scenarios in your head and how you would react, etc - nothing to do with the way your opponent would fight - That is for sparring!

  • @DW01 yeah but I was kinda trying to throw what he said back at him, to me shadow boxing and kata seem a lot alike though in shadowboxing you can choose your own actions... I know both are usefull but I was kinda raging at the time

  • @clearcombat I dont like kata but i see the point in the repetedness of technques - it just basically drills it into you.... Also, traditional martial arts will always have their place - all styles will always have their place.. MMA is still only a sport at the end of the day with rules, and does not help you defend against weapons, getting bitten, or having your eyes gouged.

  • watched it again, still impressed, thank you Max sensei!

  • @hanzabass thank you

  • Is it just me or Does This Guy have a Breathing Problem? Lmao!!!

  • just watched your sesan where was the soft it looked very hard to me!

  • i just watched your sesan kata where was the soft part that looked hard to me!!

  • just watched sesan again and you mist out 2 techniques completely !!!! shocking !!!!!!

  • thought some of your other vids were ok but this is a bit bad ! I met Kieth Pace lived by me went to his dojo once his seniors used lower grades as punch bags and they trained in T shirts instead of full do-gi ! wasn't that impressed ! both katas demonstrated need to be slowed right down ! where is the fire ?? it's the biggest flew in the west rushing kata and we must resist the urge to rush! tensho does mean rotating palm ! so why is the guy demonstrating it rotating his elbow ?

  • There are many differnet ways to perform Tensho. There are different schools and so there are different ways to perform. There isn't the right or wrong way. Look at Tensho in Kyokushin. There is another way to perform. I think he does it more in the Higaonna-Way.

  • Nice vids. What gojuryu lineage are you from? Your Tensho looks like Yamaguchi gojukai (IKGA).

  • Thanks for your comments our lineage comes from both higaonna sensei and yamaguchi sensei through Gary spiers and Keith Pace 5th Dan goju ryu

  • for reality used...

tensho, seisan and suparinpai is enough... i already give up other kata and traditional training.....

    because of very busy also...hehe..

  • Max: you're doing a great job with these clips. Keep it up! A strong Seisan, though IMHO you put too much shoulder/pecs into your opening punches. You tend to throw the punches with your shoulder rather than driving them out from your hara. Don't resent this: I mean it constructively.

  • Thanks for all your input and comments

  • I'll use iron finger technique to beat him.

  • kelvinorian Instead of being pensive.. wishful thinking.. and complaining go for.. rather then sitting on your ass..

  • wow i learned this as green belt

  • You studied Tensho as a green belt? I'm glad to hear it. In my view, Tensho should be studied early on rather than as the final kata of the Goju series. This will be heresy to some, however! With respect, though, you didn't LEARN it: you only started to learn it. How long have you been training now?

  • i have been training for 2 and a half years now

  • Good news! Please keep it up, and great luck to you.

  • DO U WORK 7 DAYS A WEEK?
