I think the same idea can be used with the major scale, played over the whole range, which is similar to using different modes withing the major scale, but instead of always thinking modes, it can be more free to just think major scale (and not to worry about the mode), but over the whole range to bring variety. That's what I do anyway.
@greenlentils Thanks Friend, of course you're right,I use this Idea (concept) with pupils to get the pentatonic scale in their fingers and it works. I can teach them the basics but the enthusiasm has to further come from them selves to use this material with trial and error till it becomes useful for them. Information can be bought (here on YT for free) Wisdom can't. Wisdom has to be lived, cheers Vic.
Good solo, it's real than it's easy to allways play pantatonic in the same range, good idea to teach people to do it all range. In Canada, I bought a book name Killer Pantatonic with all those explanations. The cover is a terminator hand playing guitare, it's a little kitch, but the book is good.
@SebSirois Thanks Seb, this is the first in depth comment I'm getting from a musician who grasps what I'm trying to explain, probably there are many books on this subject, the main thing is the way of thinking and understanding the meaning concept adaption and fusing this in individual improvisation,Vic.
Hello Vic: I just wanted you to know I have been listening, I was in the Hospital with a strong case of Pneumonia so it's really hard for me to come up stairs to the loft to view YT. But when I do, I really DO.....I have enjoyed all of your creative works. You still inspire me and move me with your methods and experiences. I am still in the slow recovery stages, I'm managing. Peace be with you.
@HenQ715 Henry I do wish you all the best and a speedy recovery from the Pneumonia, get well soon brother, a lot of strength to you and your family and it's great hearing from you, come visit me soon again, Peace Vic.
You have a great way of explaining how to get licks from a basic scale. Many teachers don't know how to explain this concept to beginning students. I also like how you sometimes use an unexpected last note in a phrase...not always landing on the root note. Even though I know most of the positions and their related scales, it's always good to get a refresher course. Thanks, Vic!
@peterqb24 Thanks Peter, this is a lesson I do at my private Music school and the students enjoy it because of the examples given within the scales, thought I'd share it here with much more people, greets Vic.
@Wolf4u2 Thanks Amigo, it's a lesson I had created for my Web Site and I use it to stimulate students to learn the pentatonic over the whole range of the instrument and especially to experiment with these useful forms. Thanks for dropping in,Vic.
@Elad110 Sure, very true, I wish I had to option to do both at once, for instance the first pattern: G A B D E(G A B D E G A)=full range of pattern third fret etc, personally I've learned them that way,but as I saw many pupils using un-economical fingering patterns I had to choose between fingering patterns or note names,Vic.
hi vic that sounds very good, if i would have more time, would be interesting to learn some theoretic stuff, because i see in your video that this works very good for playing the guitar, just i learned a little bit from your video, so long friedel
@1wiesehoefer1 Thanks Friedl, most guys play a few pentatonic licks without further theory explanation,I think I've given something here with more "depth" especially the Idea of taking this common scale over the whole range of the instrument and the fact that within every possible pattern fine musical licks can be created. Glad you learned a little from this one,Vic.
@organicpaul Hi Paul, I do ask a fee for the Tabs, you'll understand many hours of work goes into creating usable educational concepts.I'll mail it to you, cheers Vic.
@organicpaul Sorry Paul,of course you can do the lesson without the Tabs (score) then it's freeof course, only if you want the score a fee will be asked for my (extra) work.
A great guitar master to House, with a beautiful lesson. When a play your tune again, after this great explanation It is very clear, and fine to do. Thanks for share.
@StratBurns Thanks William it's great you tried out these Ideas right away that's the real musician man. Glad you got something out of this lesson. keep on jamming, till soon,Vic.
Vic I loved how on each of the 5 licks you added a ( Bb ) Flattted 5th note to give the solo a beautiful Bluesy sound.. You did it in hammer-ons and slides and bends.. Bravo !! Great lesson..
@SIRONEDRAGON Thanks for great comment Ken, I guess that "Blue-note" is very much in my ears I'm talking bout minor-Pentatonic ( E G A B D) but of course the Blues-scale is very closely related (E G A Bb B D) including the Bb, love that note man.thanks for listening and commenting,Vic.
@sguitar Thanks Sarah, well as I have struggled myself to obtain information in a time when there was scarcely a good book available (before the Internet-period) I know how important it is for aspirant players to find what they need to develop themselves. hug Vic.
Great lesson! I will be wearing out this one watching and learning from it. This is just what I need to start really learning some blues concepts. Thanks.
@sunriverperson Thanks Rich,it's basic Stuff but it's fairly compressed in this Video, ofcourse when soloing freely you might want to discover many melodic possibilities within 1 scale-pattern, these where just composed to help aspirant players out for them to have a nice guide-line,cheers Vic.
@freddyfvckface Well don't put this aside now, start working at it from today, you know my saying: One lick+pattern a day keeps the Docter away,LOL,Vic.
You explain it very well, most informative.
Hey Joe was my introduction to music when I started playing bass guitar. (I didn't play guitar before the bass)
I'm a hacker at guitar but I try.... got lots of of knowledge and hints from watching you play.
Thanks Vic!!!!
