  • saw Sammy on That Metal Show and they were talking about Montrose, I'd never heard of them before. Sounds awesome!

  • THIS IS THE FATHER OF LEP'S POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME. THE MONTROSE DEBUT IS STILL FUCKING EPIC ALMOST 40 YRS. LATER AND HOLY SHIT SAM THE MAN'S BALLS TO THE WALL STANDING HAMPTON IS NOW OVER 30 YRS OLD. THIS GANG IS WHY REAL ROCK AND ROLL WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME! DURAN DURAN..ANYONE? LMFAO!

  • My first concert. Foghat and Montrose at the Boutwell auditorium, B'ham, AL 197?.

  • Reading the Hagar book as we speak. Stephen Stills and an aspirin bottle full of coke. LOL

  • @DrugstoreCFH i thought the book claimed the beastie boys sampled this song...or the book mentions beastie boys

  • this guys now sings for quiet riot in 2012

  • @AnimeTalk Are you sure about that?

  • The only band-penned tune on the debut Montrose album, and drummer Denny Carmassi, bassist Bill Church, guitarist Ronnie Montrose, and vocalist Sammy Hagar crafted a tight-sounding and enduring classic that I just can't ever get tired of hearing!

But heck, that entire album is "hard, sweet, and sticky".

  • Van Halen without the wild fills, f'n fantastic.... edward usually goes too far imo

  • I point to this album as one of the best albums to

learn rock guitar from. Not real complex but has nearly

all the elements you want to touch on to sound good

  • this song kicks ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm glad the town i live in is called montrose :)

  • Lyrics: WHEN YOU NEED A FRIEND THROUGH THICK AND THIN... DON'T LOOK TO THOSE ABOVE YOU WHEN YOU'RE DOWN AND OUT AND THERE AIN'T NO DOUBT NOBODY WANTS YOU YOU'RE ROCK CANDY BABY YOU'RE HARD SWEET AND STICKY YOU'RE ROCK CANDY BABY SO HARD SWEET AND STICKY ALL RIGHT, YEAH HARD SWEET AND OH,YEAH... WHEN YOU'RE 17 REACHING FOR YOUR DREAMS DON'T LET NO ONE REACH THEM FOR YOU- PULL UP YOUR PANTS STEP OUT, TAKE A CHANCE IF IT CAN BE DONE YOU CAN DO IT !
  • I wore this album out in high school. The cassette didn't have any lettering left on it from so many trips into the Pioneer Supertuner in my van....GOD I LOVED GROWING UP IN THE 70s!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @TheWaterlily2012 80's?? Try the early-mid 70's. Sammy was already a solo artist by the 80's

  • I like it hot sweet and sticky

  • Sammy Hagar!

  • still sam singgin

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa sammy

  • Lived in Cicero Illinois where when you were15 you ran the pool table and drank like your mom and dad & more !Good music helped !!! Espesially when your DOWN & OUT !!!

  • guys, check the WIKI: ( it wont let me embed the link )

he was on the first 2 albums, and listed as the as the guitar player.

actually look at this album cover! HE is in the upper right hand corner!

i this cd in my hand, and see him on the back also.

  • Saw Ronnie doin' this just last year! Wow.

  • Reminds of beer and playing pool.....God I miss those day's.

  • God if we only looked as hot as we we were ! And as smart !!! I can still move it at 48 but I sometimes can move good if the arthritis doesn't kick in !!!!!

  • @audrey1713 : Hahahaha,,, I hear ya! LOL.

  • If the grooves could be worn out, it would have been this album! This record really blew the doors off the other guys and really gave a edgy spark to hard rock. If I had my choice of what? Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult? There was nobody that came close to how this album had an impact for hard rock. Brilliant!

  • young sammy was playing the guitar on this album!

who knew he would go on to play with van halen!

    hahaha

    i cant drive 55!

  • @dannnylaws53 Sorry there chum, but Sammy was not playing guitar on any of the Montrose albums. Ronnie put it in the deal when he signed up Sammy to front the band. He didn't want anyone taking away his thunder.

  • @dannnylaws53 sammy was not playing guitar with ronnie

  • @dannnylaws53 Sammy did not play guitar in the band, "Montrose." In fact, this is the very reason the band broke up. Sammy Hagar wanted to play guitar and Ronnie would not agree to it. This was the one disappointing aspect of my first concert (earlier post) in that while "Montrose" was on the bill, it was "Ronnie Montrose" solo that played. By the way, he was touring for his solo record 'Open Fire' the producer of which was Edgar Winter.

  • Just feel what the music is telling U!

  • What with all these cocky attitudes about your 13 or what ever its really annoying but its ok if you were wondering who spammed you it was me

  • answer: rick derringer....

  • Sorry i ment the Edgar Winter band.....the brothers do look like clones.

  • TRIVIA QUESTION PEOPLE!!!!.Who played gitar in the "FRANKENSTEIN" song when HE played for the Johnny Winter band?........answer next week but i"ll be checking yours until then.

  • @SHELLHEAD1961 Ronnie Montrose! Fellow '61 er

  • @SHELLHEAD1961

Yep, Ronnie Montrose. I still have the vynil LP of "They Only Come Out at Night".

  • @MattHatter UMMM, yeah dick I know what a "whammy bar" is I was playing guitar when you were still shitting green.... The dude I was commenting to said this song is about a "wham bar" which is moronic comment... As far as I know the song is about some girls pussy being like rock candy... Hot,sweet and sticky

  • my soph year in h.s., a great part of a memory

  • Haven't heard this song in years. Great old classic. Not like the crap that passes for rock today.

  • hot sweet and stick dick, just like candy baby

  • @butkatrello ron and randy, roo

  • Its a Led Zep knock-off, but its a GOOD Led Zep knock-off!

  • yep,sammy is right on!!!

  • Ronnie was great,killer vocals and sticky,bros !!!

  • @billcartermusic It's Sammy Hagar singing in this song.

  • we was there hahahaha....

  • Still wows me to this day....

  • This reminds me of my very first concert; The Warehouse in New Orleans, 1978. I was 14. Van Halen, Montrose and Journey. Journey was the headliner, touring for their Infinity record. Ronnie Montrose (solo) played second. Van Halen was the opening act! None of us had heard of them. 'You really got me' was all over the radio starting the next day.

  • @JeffroTa OMG I WAS AT THAT CONCERT,WEST BANK RULES

  • @JeffroTa thats cool

  • @JeffroTa Sounds like a kickass show. And with Journey playing, plenty of chicks in attendance

  • @JeffroTa That must of been something to behold. I saw Montrose on Guam back in the 80's and Journey when the toured the Look Into The Future release. Both were great shows.

  • Sammy - Fontana's number one son!!!

  • THis was back when music was worth listening to.

  • Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Wow, how cool, havent thought of this tune in years! Takes me back to the winter of '76-77, when it was below zero from like November til March! We stayed warm by rocking the house!

  • This is about a Wham Bar in case you weren't aware. Cheers.

  • @iadorelife "Wham Bar"???....... Is that a bar that Wham hangs out in?.... I'm guessing it be a gay bar since Wham are a bunch of fags

  • @mrdouglas51510 Hope you're joking....because if you weren't that was a really moronic reply. You don't know what a "whammy bar" is on a guitar?

  • @mrdouglas51510 Wow. All this sissy anger... all over a simple typo. Calm down, behave yourself. Or else, I'll MAKE you behave.

  • @DancingSpiderman WOW... "sissy anger"??... Your the one threatening complete strangers.... Your not going "MAKE me do anything..... Ever been slapped up side the head with 9 inches of limp dick??... I've done it to punks like before, and I will do it again if you keep running your cocksucker on me

  • rOCK CANDY BABY..HOT SWEET ANDSTICKY.')

  • It's hard to believe how old Sammy is and still looks so young. He's one hell of a down to earth human being not to mention an incredable vocalist.

  • i saw montrose with hagar singing in 76 at the anahiem stadium in calif great show they backed up kiss

  • Fuck stone age WE ARE STILL ROCKING N ROLLING!

  • My friend is 62 years old, and when I showed up at her house today to help her make cookies for the church cookie swap, she had Rock Candy turned up just as LOUD as it could get! It was f*ckin' AWESOME, watching her get off to this kick-butt Montrose stuff! When this one was finished, I called up Space Station #5 for her and she went nuts. She's OFFICIALLY the rockinest Gramma ever!

  • I'm 23 and I grew up listening to anything Sammy Hagar has put out. I don't care what anyone says he will always be the number one reason I love rock music. He's why I sing and Eddie Van Halen is why I play the guitar.

  • @icemanjonathan1987 And Traci Lords is why I watch porn and am not gay.... Just thought I would share

  • Shit I'm over 50 and thumbed it up.

  • Classic rock n roll.Love it.True talent.Thanks for the upload.

  • this is as good as it gets, Ronnie you should never have let go of Sammy, and Denny is the greatest, dig it. Dan, the perfect bass player, thing is the album sounds better than ever after 37 years! Rock Candy, wowsah

  • @GallKerry : MAJORLY CORRECT! If you can't turn ANY song on this album up past 10, then your stereo sucks! WOOO HOOOO! ROCK ROCK! ROCK!!

  • @tashareebee This one goes to 11

  • i play guitar and my friend (who sucks at guitar) wanted to learn Crazy Train. After about 3 hours he got it somewhat down and i said "you've learned one of the classics." He said "no u idiot classic is like beethoven and bach and all that." Guess he'll be learning the rest himself.

  • This is the1st time in my life listening to this song, but I just finished reading Sammy's book so now I had to check it out... awesome song!

  • @comeonewtf what'd Sammy say about his Montrose days? I know he and ronnie fought back then but now they are old buddies...when you get older, you let go of the dumb shit

  • @UberKrispy Sammy is so smart. He said that Ronnie was controlling the band the whole time, then he kicked Sam out after their tour, but Sammy said at the time he was thinking, "That motherfucker" but looking back he helped Sammy become what he became, so in hindsight he's grateful for those experiences.

  • @comeonewtf Yeah i saw an interview with Denny Carmassi the drummer and he said when he jammed with Ronnie and Sammy recently it dawned on him how awesome their chemistry is, and unfortunately when you are 23, 24 years old you don't realize it.

  • @comeonewtf Ya Ronnie wouldn`t let Sammy play any lead guitar And like you said it made Sammy. I still love Ronnie. Thanks for your input.

  • @brokegenius2011 Ronnie Montrose came and did a show in the late 80s to do a show in the Tampa FL area and never saw him again.

He lives on Indian Rocks Beach near where I grew up in Clearwater.

  • Love this sound.. Don't wake me up..

  • Just when I thought my flashbacks were over, I had to come here and listen to this. 197something, seen them with Black Oak Arkansas. OOOOoooh, the memories I can still remember. Many, many brain cells ago. Those were good times. I had no idea that was Sammy Hager. Wow! And we both survived. Sugar for the soul. Settling back down now. OK we're good. Back to reality. Bye bye.

  • HOT, SWEET, AND STICKY!

  • FFFFFING AAAA

  • hot damn....I LUV this song

  • I thought it "You're hearts sweet as chicken" for a long time

  • This is a pretty good song considering space aliens uploaded the lyrics through his brain.

  • still resonates the best sammy had to offer, with ronnie dead up his ass to make damned sure of it!!!!!!

  • The stoned Age. :)))

  • No way Gordito, I grew up on this stuff.

  • I LOVE THIS BAND MORE THA VAN HAGAR

  • This is what rock n' roll nowadays is missing: big power chords, titanic riffs and a heavy dose of bombast. What a great tune...

  • I was looking for some concert footage, anybody know if there is any around? If I was a stripper.....ha! bet you hear this song in strip clubs.

  • It still holds up and doesn't sound dated at all.

  • I bought this Montrose vinyl a year or two after it was released, and my friends were looking at me rather strange, wondering what the hell I was doing... Well, who's strange now? Excellent postings, and they are mainstay on my Playlist...

  • man i wish i was born like 30 years ago so i could hear this on the radio rather than Justin beaver and lady gaygay

  • @guitargoddude1 I heard this on the radio today, thats why I'm here.

  • @guitargoddude1 sorry bro but i was born in 1966 and did hear it. at least you have your head on straight about those two transvestite "performers"

  • This kind of music always kicks ass, its just when it was made people were actually smart enough to realize that.

  • @GORDITO1000

That's ridiculous. It is rare today for kids to listen to good music like this. But some, like me (I'm 16) actually recognize how amazing this music really is. And for that reason, I will like your comment.

  • @andrewkrip

  • @andrewkrip i'm only 17 and i mostly listen to rock instrumentals, but growing up with my uncle (professional studio drummer in the southeast for 40 years) i believe stuff like this is as good as it gets.

  • Comment removed

  • Anytime I hear someone young say they recognize how amazing this music is, it takes me back to when I was in my youth. I never took the time to really appreciate it then. Amazing it is and it lives through you and the others that recognize how amazing it is! You may like Jimi Hendrix, Pali Gap ? Good Vibes to you little brother!

  • @GORDITO1000 im gunna break the rules im 25 and im deffo giving it the thumbs up rock and roll baby
