  • Why don't any of the freight railrioads operate passenger trains? Are they not allowed to, or do they just not want to and/or do not want to take a chance at it?

  • I think freight locomotives look cool in front of passenger locomotives... :)

  • just a thought isnt it most unusual to have double headed pusher loco's on a passenger train

  • Hey if you want to see this thing and if you live close to Moberly Missouri thats where its parked right now for a while. Its pretty cool. I got to go in it and its really cool.

  • Why did it have freight locomotives on it and not passenger locomotives on it? Just a thought.

  • Because NS (Norfolk Southern) doesn't run any passenger train service nor do they want to.... Those passenger trains you see here are a novelty used for company promo........

  • This passenger train came into Louisville today pulled by two F-7A units and 1 B unit. I did not have a camera. The KY Derby is next weekend...

  • This reminds me of that movie "Under Seige 2, Dark Territory." Basically the two leading units make me remember that. A real cool video dude.

  • cool video. check out mine and subscribe tell all of your friends to do the same

  • When was this video taken?

  • that's cool

  • Saw one today in Meridian, MS. No engine on the end though, just coaches with the last one having a big plate glass window at the end. Sweet!!

  • the box car is whats known as a battery car or radio car this unit is what kept the rear engines synced with the front ones in terms of throttle and brakes now its run thru the connect cables btwn the cars but b4 that this is what was used

  • thank you that helped

  • is this the norfolk southern inspection because if it is why does it have so many cars and whats with the box car?

  • HI Guys I was recently in fastrio ohio at the iron triangle and on the august 7th 2008 Me and group went railfanning and we saw their train roll through around 11:30 am it had one A unit on point two B units and one A unit on the rear very classy train in deed

  • oh wow i saw it on the same day going through mccomb ohio!!!??

  • Several coaches here are from the old N&W Powattan Arrow trains.

  • Hmmm... That might be the Director's express

  • This is the NS Office Car Special. Only the F's are supposed to pull it.

  • Could be that the F's werent in service

  • Not quite. If you listen closely when the F's go by you can hear their engines idling (it sounds like a slow thumping). Also sounds like they still have their original 567 prime movers from the 1950's.

  • No. 16-645s.-Jeffrey

  • There helpers, coming back down the grade. They just tagged along for the ride, back down ready for the next train to help up

  • True. True. But the 4th F Unit in the time of this vid was not yet finished at Altoona and there is no area that I know of where they could have turned the lead F unit around to lead the train down the curve. So NS just grabbed 2 helpers and let them lead the train down the curve. At least theres more dynamic braking power to control the train! The extra power makes it look more intresting.

  • There is no dynamic brake on the "F" units. Only AIR.

  • Thought it was mandatory to have dynamic brakes nowadays. Were they not originally built with them?

  • Video would have been much better if the engineer pulled the horn. I don't get why some engineers don't pull it going around the curve.

  • its great for my two year old, its thomas

  • You watched it.

  • what is so pointless about this video??? Its something you do not see everyday..(i never seen this in person)

  • @railroadlover i did yesterday! goshen, in

  • @wh306 Cool!

  • u dont see that everyday nice catch

  • sorry there were 30 cars on my train. there were 5 on the other train. the 30 car train was called the Jamestown Settler and the other one was called the Dreams of Oakland.

  • wait, i remember there like 42 passenger cars. 2 were lettered SOUTHEASTERN RAILWAY MUSEUM, KATCHI GAMMI CLUB PULLMAN, a ppcx office car, N&W tool car, and 15 NRHS and Ns passenger coaches.

  • well, these all apeer to be Norfolk Southern, as for two coachs letterd Southeastern Railway musaum, I can blast that away. I work at SERM, the only two coach swe have lettered with our name are eather one TVRM, or at the Blue Ridge scenic Railway. and neather have traveled over the main line together in 30 years.

  • That was a strange consist.

  • Now WHY can't something like that ever go by my house? :) Cool stuff, and a great shot of it!

  • can someone give me the names of the rail cars?

  • From the SD40-2s on back: 23 - Buena Vista (obs), 18 - General William Mahone (diner), 19: Kentucky (lounge), 24: Delaware (dome), 1: Virginia (CEO Office), 2: Carolina (sl) , 13: Georgia (sl), 12: Indiana (sl), 11: Illinois (sl), 7; Alabama (sl), 3: Claytor Lake (office),

  • 20: Ohio (office), 21: West Virginia (office), 5: Maryland (office), 7: Pennsylvania (office), 40: Power Generating Car

There are a few other cars that are missing: the New York, Michigan, 2 Powhatan Arrow Cars and some others.

  • I know the rest. # 841 the Royal Palm #842, Southerner. Almost forgot #13 Crossville, # 1 Pentrex Capitol, # 33 Martinsburg, and 725 the Man'O'War.

  • wait Pentrex Capital is # 11. my bad.

  • Since you seem to know ns business cars #13 Crossville,#1 Pentrex Capital, #33 Martinsburg and #725 the man of war do you have pictures of these cars, and one more thing how many business cars does Norfolk Southern own?

  • actually if you didn't notice i made an accidental mistake on one of the cars. Pentrex Capital is # 11. and i might have pictures of these cars but i dont know where.

  • ok well if you find them email them to me for iam looking for pictures of the entire norfolk southern fleet.

  • i created them to make them more intersting but i dont kow. i remember PPCX, Katchi Gammi Club, and others

  • very nice

  • I Want To Go Ride On Them.

  • well if youre a customer theyll let you ride it

  • Thanks for the comments

  • Nice video but I am a little confused. I am a railfan whose interest has been largely limited to the geography of railroads (I did visit Altoona a few years ago); so I know almost nothing about current equipment. I was surprised to see a fairly long (16 cars) passenger train in what appeares to be freshly painted livery other than that of Amtrak. Are these cars for excursions or is Norfolk Southern looking at getting back into scheduled passenger service?

  • Those cars are for the company big wigs. They travel around and make sure everything is ok.

  • its called the Norfolk Southern Executive train. If you look at the back of the train you can see the F units being deadheaded back to Altoona for serviceing. Its strictly to shuttle the Exs around. Its a Private train.

  • no this is the ns office train they use it for when the executives and customers want to go somewhere like the kentucky derby or the masters golf tournament

  • At the end of the train, the locomotives were NS 5646 (GP38-2), NS 4275 (F7B), NS 4276 (F7B) and NS 4270 (F9A)
