John is a great bass player, but after listening to guys like Nei Conceiçao, Thiago Espirito santo, Alain Perez, and some other guys,in this kind of grooves, they are the masters.....
I already cut on this clip alot.....but holy shit this is probably the worst thing ive ever heard a professional play in my life..It's demonstrates noting, it lacks value of any kind. It's pretty much just a mockery of latin rhythm and J.P. should be ashamed.
that was like the first time patitucci got high. he was like oooohhh maan check out how my bass sounds right now, no listen. this is really bad lol. Patitucci IS really good though
The headphones do 2 things: cancel the loud drums so he doesn't become deaf and provide a click AND/OR bass and drum monitor. But these guys are pros, so I'm sure they can play perfectly without a metronome.
For good reason. Patitucci is Italian. Italians aren't descendants of the "white" race. Italians were discriminated aginst although not as severly as blacks in America. Italian opera is soulful and passionate. Enjoy
I'm italian and live in Italy, even if I don't care at all what race I descend, I inform you italians are caucasian i.e. white and what you wrote is a funny bullshit.
P.S. just to remember native americans are not caucasians and all the "whites" in US descend from old Europe migrants, like Patitucci ancestors.
Nah, its pretty important to understand race vs ethnicity. Its also important to understand your heritage, even those who are mixed with tons of ethnicities. Makes you appreciate your family much more.
Ciao amico! Arrivederci
Italians are of Latin descent, if I'm not mistaken. As are French, Portuguese, and Spanish--and just west of them are the Carribeans, Central and South Americans too--which are mixed with natives and African. Hence the rhythm and dancing. I love the world for being so culturally diverse but similar at the same time. One thing all Latins have in common, though--FOOD AND WINE! Bravo!
no, its not a samba, but it's close, most often the samba will have a bass drum on every beat and a hit before it, like a hearbeat... this is kinda a fushion of funk and disco
HUH? What just happened?

This is a lesson from a Bass instructional video...demonstrating basic stuff, not a gig .
Anyway I think that for Chick Corea Fusion style / Latin this is basic, but still a killer groove.

Drums in the headphones?? No way. John is an avid sports fan, I believe here he was listening to the Chicago Bulls game.

I have these tapes, the bass is a Sadowsky.
It looks like a rosewood fingerboard, but I'm not sure if the body is alder or ash.
I'd love to know.
I wouldn't mind owning a 5 string in this configuration.
