  • Hoorah for Nickolaus Tesla! Or whatever his first name was...

  • Nice construction there dude, but is it a cardboard tube ? Not a problem until you get up to higher power levels, then they burn up in spectacular style (internal arcing) which is depressing given the time and effort it takes to build. Keep the power levels to about 250 watts for a secondary this size and you'll be fine.

Check my coils out if you fancy it ....

  • Thanks for the info, used 5 coats on each coil and it kinda soaked through a bit. My NST is 450W so It might just handle it? If not at least the video will help others. I kinda like it when things go wrong. I have two of theses now and they are matched perfectly...i think...

I must have a look at your channel, Thanks

    Paul..

  • Hi Paul. Can you tell us what are the specifications of your secondary coil (size of coil, number of windings and gauge of wire). looking forwards to seeing your work. Good luck

  • Hi Medi40. It has 2000 turns of 0.25mm magnet wire at 550mm diameter tubing. and resonates at about 270KHz ish.....

    Hope This Helps.

    Thanks

    Paul..

  • nice work m8!!!! hope all works out well for ya....check out my Tesla Coils on my channel...

  • Cheers.. Ill take a look

  • Paul very nice job. I didn't know you were in the process of making a Tesla coil. I just scored a old micro wave oven and can't wait to tear that puppy apart. I know they say you shouldn't use a micro wave transformer but hey....I'm told there's also a nice cap and killer magnets in there as well......Christmas comes early ;-}}}

    mike

  • Yeah, I taking it slow though to understand all the maths etc...

Just got my Capacitor, the maximum I could use was 0.025uF so I went for a 0.02uF to be safe..

    Good Luck with you coilin'

    Paul..

  • Im just wondering what does a Tesla Coil do?

  • It make Lightning... kewl huh.

  • nice never knew

  • Paul:

That looks dangerous already! (Grin) Very nice winding job and excellent craftsmanship there.

    Bill

  • Cheers,

It did take a while and the Varnishing takes days.....

I was thinking of hooking it up to a drill casing, is it just me that thinks tesla coils should be portable and hand held uhhhaaaarrarrr ;-)

  • Neat job so far.

  • Thanks, Its the spark gap I need to spend some time on now.

I might try my Jacobs' ladder with some Capacitors as a tester.

    Paul.

  • That's very impressive!

  • Thanks, cant wait for the lightning to be zapping out of it.

They take a while to wind and a good tip is varnish it straight away!

    Paul.

  • Why didn't you just making one(a bottle capacitor)?

  • Good Question. the exact top Capacitance is 0.255uF so I might Check it out to get the extra pound of flesh from it.

I've been told a small twist to bottle is 1 nano Farad and was thinking of size, but your right. I might try tin foil and acrylic.

    Paul

  • Now i will wait for a main circuit video :]

    Good luck with project!

  • Thanks, just waiting for my 15Kv 0.02uF Capacitor might come today...;-)

    Paul.
