i would love to know more about this waxcilinderplayer: does it run on electricity, can you record your own sound? where do people get theire cilinders from to record?
Hate to bust everybody's bubble, but if you played this same record on a period phonograph it would not sound this nice. The electric stylus removes most of the noise inherent on older acoustic phonographs. However I agree that even the older Edison records sound far clearer and producer much wider ranges than the Victrolas of the era (or even of the 30's and 40's for that matter). I have a few and they don't sound near as good even with an electric stylus.
I can only imagine the astonishment of the first few patrons who were the lucky few to first listen to the sounds of a phonograph....beautiful recordings and great piece of history!
I just wonder what the album cover looked like. Can you imagine if they wouldve stuck with that format what the Beatles album covers...and not to mention those memoerble album covers of 70's wouldve looked like?. WOW! An album cover you can drink out of.
Nearly all were acoustic recordings. From late 1914 Blue Amberols were acoustically dubbed from Diamond Discs. Only the very last few were electrically dubbed. However, several of the new cylinder records of our time are electrically recorded. Technically it is the best way to reproduce and old recording at an authentic sound quality.
How can I buy one of these modern-day players?

@dream501 It's a regular Stanton 500 cartridge, mostly used with custom made styli for each groove type.

No victor from 1909 sounds this good. Much lower noice and wider frequency response.

Were any cylinder records recorded electronically or were they all recorded (mechanically) acoustically?
