Often though Ive found that when removing exhaust from manifold a reduced bhp is noticed/ slower 0-60etc, but it seems with american v8's this isnt the case, I live in UK, I used to go and see what we called F1 stock cars, they were single seater oval racers with rails round for full contact they all had just a manifold, a 4 into 1 one each bank, and obviously they must have made best power like this.
I used to stand at beginning of straight part of track where they floored it!
can u imagine what its like for me to see 509cubic inch (I think that was a common size) open exhaust v8's when we all drive 4 cylinder 1.3 litre crap boxes!
The ground shook when they idled!

I went to a yank car show recently actually, my favourates r the v8 diesels.
350 bored out to 383. What did that engine come out of? My dads wagon has a 72' Chevy 350 4 bolt main. He doesn't have it bored or anything. But, It runs like a SOB.
Good old ride down Main St, Worcester, Massachusetts for sure....
