  • ammmmmaaazzzzziiiiinnnnnggggggggg

  • HOLY FUCK EXPLOSIVE

  • Holy shit, this version's guitar is "dirty" sounding. I fucking love it.

  • Love you

  • ahhhh 240p we meet again

  • I agree this performance was amazing & one of my faves also! That had to suck for them tho having such a dull crowd.. but this is such a serious song, so sad yet beautiful all u can do is just stand there in awe ;O

  • this song rocks. unlike the album they were launching...

  • This was an Album launch so the crowd is littered with media, record label people, competition winners and other randoms, which might explain the non rocking crowd.

Awesome performance though, it's right up there as one of my favourites.

  • They are rocking and the crowd are not... Fucking tragic

  • @wtfitsdaveyj a) that's the best thing about being a musician. it's his music and he can do whatever he pleases with it. the people who are paying to see them accept that it is an art form. it's not like they work at a grocery store. b) why do it? for the fans, and because it showcases their talent as a band. the song itself has evolved throughout the years with the band and has become one hell of a crowd pleaser if you ask me. oh and what's wrong with that? i thought they were getting paid to.

  • I really wanna download this show! What an awesome performance!

  • Amazing...

  • Such a great Band!!! Have spent so many awesome hours listening to that music!!!

  • From age 15 to 23 nothing has changed. Still gives me the shivers. Nothing but love for Silverchair :)

  • fucking amazing.

  • 5:08 is fantastic. This brings tears to my eyes it's sooo good. After everything the band has been through with Dan's illnesses they still manage to put on legendary shows. I am looking forward to another fifteen years of pure Silverchair!

  • he's still got it. He's just hiding it. (old singing style)

  • what are you people smoking who are complaining about the vocals? He sounds fucking beautiful here.

  • emotion sickness. exactly how i feel right now...sick of feeling..luckly this song numbs me

  • I'm also a bit sad that his vocal had changed so much. BUT, that's the problem with becoming famous from young age. You can hear the vocal differences, unlike the musicians who becoming famous in their 20s where their vocals are already stable. Just like the band called Hanson who also started from young age, their vocals also changed.

  • he doesnt look like a little girl anymore, and his voice has changed a lot!

  • lol everybody always talks about daniel... what about the other two!? lol

  • god damn i love that solo!! it sounds freaking amazing!!! especially the wah bits at the start of it, they sound awesome!

  • What a genuine performance!!! I just love how Silverchair has evolved.

  • hell yes

  • awesome version, Dan is a great guitarist, he's not so much technical but he convey a lot of emotion with his guitar, His "guitar gently weeps". His voice is very soulful as well.

  • This version f-ing rocks!!! daniel just jams!!.....would be better with .."get up" but ah well!

  • it's a good album I just don't like the way it's produced. Sounds like everything been compressed using plugins, the drums in particular. At first listen I expecteed it clear and punchy but instead I got weak and thin. What gives?

  • Hey everyone :)

I have been watching a few live versions of this song and the best one i found was when they did it live in melbourne absolutely amazing oh and by the way Daniel Johns has a great voice one of the best live voices ive ever heard just wish they didnt go down the path they went

  • @erving25 watch some more videos of emotion sickness. it's usually filled with people SCREAMING til 'won't you starve my brain.' and of course he doesn't do it with the same feeling. he doesn't feel the same. but it's grown into an amazing live song. someone brought to my attention that these people probably weren't familiar with the music.

  • @blueeyedbutterfly no the part where people should scream is the climatic get up part. it's not only that he doesn't feel the same but more of the fact that alot of fans need to come to the realization that he simply can't do the snarls, low pitched vocals anymore he tries to but it often comes off as nasally i've been studying his vocals for about 3 years now. there's no hint of the old johns in there. even when he does the new songs he sounds so tired. but hopefully he can get back into shape

  • i was speaking of exactly THAT part. i disagree. no his voice isn't as conditioned as it used to be, there's damage, but the biggest thing to consider is where his voice was in maturity when the song was written. it's gone through many natural changes in tone, pitch, and range. that is for the most part why in an old song he can't sing it the same or as well as before. his register isn't the same. every song sounded best in it's era. i personally like the sound of his voice now. the end.

  • i didn't hear a single 'get up' from the crowd. which is really disappointing seeing as how this was an awesome show, especially for the older songs. there's no excuse, the crowd SUCKED.

  • Omg I love that so much!

  • How sad when someone cannot even discuss things that are debatable. I still will be an enormous fan of Silverchair, but like anyone else who is human, they have their shortcomings. I hope this person who has been so upset with me will calm down and see where I was coming from.

  • watch these guys become the Australian U2. I liked these guys way back when they(and I) were teenagers. It's cool to watch a musician grow up. I would like to hear heavier stuff, though...

  • their best performance of this song is on live from faraway stables.

  • what happened to the "GEEEEEEETTTT OUUUUUUUUTTTT!!!!!!!!" part? did I miss it?

  • he stopped singing it a long time ago, sucks though I know

  • aw that's my favourite bit! thanks for the info

  • damn it what does that sticker say on daniel's guitar?!?!?!?!.....i've been tryin to figure it out!....i can never get a good enough look at it

  • BAN DUCK SEASON: Big Guns Little Dicks

  • ahhhhhhhh......thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • COuld someone tell me what he does when he kneels down and adjusts some of the equipment on the floor?

  • the pedals he has on the floor are his guitar effects pedal.....when he kneels down is to adjust his distortion pedal for either more gain (distortion) or volume levels.

  • TY! I have seen lots of guitarists adjust pedals with their foot, but I have never seen anyone kneel mid performance like that.

  • Daniel John's is a very talented musician...aside of playing great guitar he also knows how to use and manipulate his guitar effect pedals...he is a skilled talented musician.

  • Yeah, Rolling Stone has him listed as one of the 25 least recognized but very talented guitar players in the world. I totally agree. He also is an incredible songwriter, but I think he could improve his lyrics. His voice - omg - it is absolutely perfect in pitch, range, and strength. He really is gifted, and, lol not one bit hard to look at either. :)

  • his lyrics are the greatest part of the song writing. they arent the normal "i love you. cant live with out you" bullshit that nickelback and bands such as sing about. they actually have a meaning and come from a deeper place than "what the studio wants and radio will play."

  • I never said anything about studios and radios....calm down! I disagree with you; I don't think he is as powerful a lyricist as, say, Kurt Cobain. It;s great to be ambiguous in lyrics, but some of his just are bizarre. I think he is a brilliant musician and I love his work, but I definately think he could improve with his lyrics. No need to take my head off, it;s just my opinion.

  • lol i was very calm in saying that i was just trying to get a point across. sorry if it came off wrong. well dont you think "polly wants a cracker" is a little bizarre? I think him and kurt have some of the same ideals when it comes to lyrics, i just think Daniel are a bit easier to digest. and it heklps that silverchair's music is in its own league.

  • "Polly Wants a Cracker" is based on a real event where a girl named Polly was abducted and tortured. There is meaning behind every Nirvana song. Kurt was a universe away from Daniel as far as writing lyrics goes. At the same time Daniel is a far more sophisticated musician than Kurt ever was. Lyrically Kurt was a poetic genius, Daniel does ok, but still has a long way to go.

  • it is the same with Daniel though. "Emotion Sickness" isnt just a cute play on words. Its about his addiction to pills (someone correct me if i'm wrong). I dont think you can put Daniel and Kurt in a different sector as far as lyrics go. And lets remember too, these guys started at 15 and 16. Your vocabulary isn't gonna be that of a 21 year old.

  • You don't "grow into" poetic genius - it is a gift that cannot be aquired. Daniel himself has admitted that writing lyrics is the part he least enjoys. He may not be gifted that way, whether he is 19 or 119. I am just giving my opinion on how talented he is, in ways very few are, today , yesterday, or in the future. I feel he can certainly improve, lyric wise. And in that aspect, no, he is in no way in the same league as Kurt. I also am tired of argueing with you on this, please leave me alone.

  • my last post: I never said you grow into it all i said was one's vocabulary gets bigger as he/she gets older. now if you want to argue poetic genius listen to "After All These Years" and tell me that's not poetic genius on a music point or lyrical point. Everyone can improve lyrically. I dont really think "Smells like teen spirit" would make Edgar Allan Poe shit his pants. Though Daniel may not be the greatest writer in a lyrical sense, to say Kurt is on another planet is insane.

  • If you don't understand Teen Spirit that is a reflection of YOUR limitations, not the artist. There are plenty of sites online, educate yourself, then the next time you want to mouth off as a music critic maybe you won't sound like such an asshole.

  • oh yes how could i not see what teen spirit is about. ehem it goes a little something like this "TEEN ANGST! TEEN ANGST! TEEEEN ANGST! ENTERTAIN US!" now then, next time you want to bash someones intelligence or discredit there opinions because they havent gone to sites to look up what a song is about...oh wait. THATS THE POINT OF MUSIC. to draw your own interpretation of a song. i will be waiting for your next remark.

    Signed -The Asshole

  • Listen, it;s not my fault if you are slow. Instead of wasting everyone's time here, go read your mail and leave it at that. I am done with communicating with you. YOur pitiful musical knowledge is making an ass out of you, but go ahead and spew on if you must, I won't be answering. Calm down, get it together, you are spazzing here and there is no need - shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • im wasting no one's time except yours and your the one that keeps responding so am i really the slow one? And my pitiful music knowledge seemed to stump you or maybe i am too slow to see that too. i will just go back to my silverchair and you can go back to your poetic genius. "come as you are." good job kurt. ;)

  • messes about with his flanger/phaser and delay pedals changing them to get the effect he wants

  • that effect is digitech whammy

it is not about distortion but pitch (one octave higher)

  • That makes more sense. I can't think of any other song where the singer actually changes pitch like this. I find a lot of Daniel's songs have wildly creative pitch changes, very unusual chord progressions. Thanks so much!

  • Silverchair 4eva!!

  • sum of the stuff he does on guitar is trippy

  • LMAO fuckin hilarious comment and so true! ; )

  • OMG..Where were they playing at?? A WANKNUTS/GEEK/NERD convention. Even the cameramen were rageing more than the wasters. SILVERCHAIR deserve a better crowd than a 'crossword convention'

  • worst crowd ever

  • The whole world needs to hear silverchair... the whole world needs to know how much they ROCK!!!! I don't love any bands, i have never been a fan of anything but Silverchair... oh wow, say no more, silverchair is just AMAZING

  • Yup..Is unfair how wasters like Kanye West, Rianna, etc get top billing when someone else writes there songs for them. Plus, their songs SUCK!!! SILVERCHAIR FUCKIN ROCK!!! Is unfair and just plain WRONG!

  • two more cds to go and i got all of them its a bitch cause in the U.S. seems like no one has heard of silverchair its bullshit so i have to order them

  • I agree. It took me forever to find Diorama; I finally just had to buy it from Itunes and burn it to a disc.

  • i totally know what u mean, I have some friends that dont get why i listen to them, I keep telling them their clueless and to wake up and listen dude their blind.....luckily my other bffs and I have been fans since we were tikes, I live to love Silverchair! : )

    \m/

  • paul mac just ruins the song....

  • Though I'm familiar with Silverchair from my adolescence, this video was the first time I'd heard this particular song. I have to say it's pretty stunning, I never realised they had this side to them. I made a point of going back to listen to the original but I still think this rendition is far improved. It's almost like a different band. So much like the kind of thing I'm into now, like Oceansize, and People in Planes. Incredible.

  • the best version ever is emotion sickness live melbourne park 1999. even better than the cd version. its perfect check it out

  • sao paulo '03 imo

  • they rocked it.

i respect how he leaves out the 'get up' part because obviously the song is very emotional and means a lot to him, yet he isn't in the same place he was when he wrote the it. and that part was full of pain... and would probably be painful to sing. kind of like how he does ana's song differently. it's understandable and the songs are still just as good.

  • FAIR CALL MAN, RESPECT.

  • @BLueEyeButterfly I agree, still this song is a testimony of what he's been through

  • @Yeaahright - true, and it's all made him who he is today. therefore it's a modern version of the song. i completely agree with you about dan's guitar skills, and the guy is way musically gifted; his talent isn't something you can just learn. his ability to express his emotions through music never ceases to amaze me, and is the main reason i love his music so much. *he* is amazing.

  • @BLueEyeButterfly He just don't sing the "get up" part because he has no voice to do this correctly anymore.

  • @Silvanio95 opinion. it's all just speculation. but honestly if that were the case i'd have to wonder why he sings tuna in the brine anymore, or across the night. those are both more vocally demanding than singing "get up" a few times. he rarely sang the part during the atn tour, before cutting it out completely. oh and how would he sing it correctly? correct would be according to the musician who wrote it. which means he can sing anything however he wants to.

  • @BLueEyeButterfly yeah maybe, but if he has overcome it already it should be no problem...I figured he was just tired from that sweet lead into the falsetto part. He seems to strain to him them now, he isn't 21 any more. By the way I didn't like the new album.....artsy over the top....no edge man!! I guess once you dissolve everything that rock to death metal stands for and see it for what it is....it doesn't matter but still don't make your fans buy a cd full of gay music

  • @H8CHylde the word 'overcome' is thrown around very loosely. i personally think they still do the song because it's one of the better ones he's ever written and no doubt fun to play. it was so long ago he wrote it that i doubt the song is particularly difficult but maybe that single part brings things back. or perhaps you're rigbht. last time i've heard the get up part is a newcastle nye show in 06 i think. it sounded fine. it could just be that he wants the crowd to sing it. who knows!

  • ofcourse things he wrote with his 18 year old voice aren't going to sound the same at 30. that's what's so disappointing about not touring diorama right away. his voice is constantly changing and he writes vocals that work for him then and there. about YM: i love it, but hey to each his own. i'll reimburse you for your copy and give it to a random person. honestly i don't love freakshow. but that's a good thing, diverse sound = diverse fanbase. can't we all stop arguing and just get along?!!

  • another great performance by silverchair =)

  • perfection

    <3

  • fuckin LOVE it!!

    ridiculous!

  • awesome!!!

  • I like old Silverchair better, but they're good now

  • they are the most amazing band live

  • They are the second most amazing band live, Blue October is the best band live, Justin is mind blowing, in every way.

  • This is awsome !, first 4 albums were fuckin great but last the album is bullshit !

  • This is a dirrrrrty version, I LOVE IT

  • O Adriano, tá me ouvindo ?

  • This version absolutely kicks some ass!!

  • ronaldo!

  • one of their best fo' sure

  • digitech whammy, the red pedal on his board..

  • Se me pone la piel de gallina al oir este tema!! es Increible!!!!!!!

    I LOVE SILVERCHAIR!!

  • holy shit this is a nasty live version

    I'm digging this.

  • what's the effect that Daniel uses on 5:00? Whammy?

    Great version, amazing song!

  • This Video has everything.

    Great Sound(Mainley from Daniel)

    Great Veiws

    High quality

    AND SILVERCHAIR

  • Great song.

  • Ronaldo

  • wowsa, this is fantabulous!!!

  • daniel is the best singer and songwriter ever!!!

  • I'm just happy he's not semi-suicidal anymore.

The songs he composed ten years ago are still evolving with each performance, which I believe is a good thing.

  • 4:40, waay cool =))

  • thats the reason I keep watching this video

  • OMG its amazing!

  • his vocals have changed so much

  • @fmcnally

i think he was deliberate in doing that and may have even admitted it in an interview somewhere. Vocals change or not, i personally dont feel these live versions any more.

Really love the new parts they've added after 4:40 though

  • This and Miss you love are like the best songs ever written,

    in the history of music.

    fucking best band ever!!!

  • 3:24 on. Mesmerizing.

  • this is okay, nowhere near the 1999 performances.

  • have to disagree. he adds so much more to the song nowadays, and his vocals are a lot better.

  • personally, i think he goes too far with the solo's and stuff these days.. his emotion was alot more raw and powerful back in 99.. his voice is stronger these days.. and his guitar playing has improved... but when he gets drunk or high onstage he messes around too much... and paul mac needs to turn his keyboards DOWN dammit!

  • i partly agree so i gave a thumbs up. I thin the best versions of this song were in the diorama days. where he experimented with his voice more yet kept the whole of the song together. His emotions in 99 obviously made the song more raw and emotional. This is a really good version too, though i have to say i miss the "get up" part of the song. i still think this song means alot to him. just in a different manner possiblt. Either way i enjoy the song no matter how he plays it. but agreed

  • I'm torn on this. Yes, I like the way he used to sing it, but his guitar playing is just SO much better these days, as well as his choice of effects and soundscapes.

  • Emotion Sickness (Live in Sao Paulo 2003), was the best!, this is no where near the best, but i am suprised how well he can still sing to date, if only he didn't add this poxy shit with the high tone... dont get mad Daniel Johns is a god forever no matter what happens, all silverchair rocks!!!

  • Best song ever written

  • my god... this is just awesome !! :'(

  • 4:40, !

  • Get That Long Hair Back Plz

  • ok, that's an awesome version too, so fucking great

  • And your word means shit, dog. :P

  • I love the chill jam in the middle

    so sick

  • great

  • This is the best version of this song i´ve heard, but not "by far". Check out the Rock Am Ring version, of the Diorama tour i think. Is good as well.

Esta es la mejor versión de esta canción que he escuchado, pero no "por mucho". Escuchen la versión en Rock Am Ring, de la gira de Diorama. Es muy buena también.

  • sao paolo 2003. the best.

  • by,far?

  • Muito bom!!! O daniel nao parece mais uma garota!!

Senti falta das notas altas que ele cantava!!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

  • best version I've ever seen. Incredible

  • AGREEDD, So dope

  • I liked the get up part of the music :\

  • Me, too.. I was patiently waiting for it, then he didn't do it :( I really hope he gets his voice back (like on the "Take the world upon your shoulders and burn, burn, burn, burn, burn, burn or Like I found a four leaf clover part in The Lever) He is still an amazing vocalist, but damn it I miss that grrrrr he used to have.

  • This is by far my favorite performance of this amazing song! :)

  • long time no see! when he stopped to look like a girl?

cool song! but I miss the piano!

  • Don't know that he ever lost his ability to hit the high notes... it was that "sandpaper rasp" that he lost... thats why you hear zoo sounds at 3:24 instead of the "Get Up" part of the song

  • listen to "sleep all day". he's still got it

  • 2:56 - holy shit he has his voice back!!!!!!!!!! When he hit it the way he does on the album, made my skin crawl.

  • Wow. Just wow. I wish they got more play in America, i love Silverchair :)

  • they were getting a ton of play during neon ballroom, their new sound just doesn't do it for me.

  • better than homebake?

  • Holy crap, that is a monsterous effort live.

    Great work

  • this shits on the sao paulo..

  • well, i think sao paulo is definitely the best vocally! but instrumentally, this is the best :)

  • at least his voice sounds better now. it was pretty bad there for a while.

  • mhm, thats a good thing !

  • I think instrumentally and vocally the stables version is the best with this one coming in second. Both have amazing guitar parts.

  • amazing song and an amazing performance but they dont get the crowds going like they used to by the looks of things.

    shame, i love em

  • I really like what Paul Mac is playing during Dan's solo from 2:28 - 2:58. It sounds like he's just slapping the keys at the low end of the piano. Sounds so cool.

  • Really? You favourited a Natalie Imbruglia video. I hate that pretentious one hit wonder ugly-ass ho.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

  • Lol, nice.

  • Seriously, what's up with the gay-bashing?

    Repressing something there?

  • i use fag as in "effeminate". im saying silverchair used to be cool. now they sound like a cross between sissor sisters and the polyphonic spree. i found young modern to be irritably joyful on 100% of the songs

  • Interesting. I found Young-Modern to make me wanna rip my ears off. I miss Frogstomp & Freakshow Silverchair. Just cause he got better doesn't mean he had to go and make shitty music. He coulda kept the same sound and been a more happy, less aggressive grungey rocker. GRRRRR

  • i rate their albums in the following order(worst to best):

Frogstomp > Young Modern > Freak Show > Neon Ballroom > Diorama

  • then you're a dumbass because they're better now than they ever have been

  • very good performance

  • A musical epic...

  • what a amasing emotional solo...

  • no one beats this version!!

  • check out the Sao Paulo version

  • and check out the live performance from faraway stables!

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • muy bueeno :)!

  • Sao Paolo is still the best IMHO , by far. Dan was just so into it in 2003 at that time! It's like he was in a trance and put me into one, permanently!~

  • faaaaarrrrk he's still got it :)
