  • Several cell phones today are designed to assist the visually impaired people in their day to day life as well, and this is very beautiful. The cell phone we market is also designed for individuals with low vision to have a more convenient phone experience through its big buttons and voice confirm.

  • haha, I watched it without sound and was all like "what are everyone so excited about, I can hardly see the screen"...

  • I would like to learn more about this

  • Twenty Dollars!!

  • where to download this software? Interesting which phones this will work on.

  • wow we know he has 20 dollars

  • right?

  • Let's rob him!

  • How a blind person is going to point to an object he does not know the exact position?

  • If you're at a store you can pick up something and point the device at it. Try doing it blind folded i'm sure you'd be able to point a device at what you're holding. Also blind people will be much better at doing so since, well they're used to it :)

  • if u read it says visualy impaired not blind. impaired meaning they can see just not very good.

  • Fantastic use of current technologies! Taking an OCR like the one Evernote uses and adding text-speech in a cell phone app could help anyone with sight difficulties. I would expect the first feature they add would be the ability to take snapshotsa of larger objects like posters with a bunch of text and save them for later playback.

  • god job!

  • Echt wel knap!!!

  • That's pretty impressive.

  • Can it tell a photocopy of a 20 dollar bill from a real one?!

  • My thought exactly. :)

  • The cameras in phones are typically such low quality that discerning a copy from an original would be nearly impossible and wouldn't be within the scope of this product.

  • u live on past...

  • Hmm..this is pretty cool:)

  • Assuming that this video is a fair representation of performance, this is nice work.

  • how many objects can that app recognize?

  • marvel

  • I will rule the world

  • i'm just amazed at how some people can be so incredibly close-minded / self-absorbed in their own little reality so as not to realise the potential of such technology!

Besides potentially being an aid to not only the blind, but to a whole range of visually impaired people, a device like this could also be very useful to people with word finding difficulties - like certain aphasias caused by strokes and other illnesses ...

  • This is huge! Very exciting work.

  • I love technology that can help those with disabilities, thanks for sharing!

  • That could really help the blind.

  • There's absolutely no chance that there was someone on the other end of the line watching the video and texting back, is there?

  • what if you have two 20 dollar bills. will it say 40 dollars?

  • WOW! Very bankable. Yet another thing to add to the "I wish I thought of that" list. Just an incredible app. It will help a lot of people. Kudos!

  • at last something good to see

  • How about recognizing the hand which holds the object?

  • What kind of camera do you use to record yourself? I like the quality for some reason haha. Or is it your lighting? anyways, fun video!

  • Maybe for blind people?

  • what about a blind user? still useless?

  • they made it for blind people

  • twenty dollars, twenty dollars, twenty dollars - FUCK ! :D

  • rise of the machines.

  • what if there is bills laying on top of each other. Like half a $5 bill is showing and half a $20. It will be cool when it can recognize them both and add them together.

  • "You. Will. Need. To. Tip. The. Pizza. Guy. More. You. Cheap. Bastard"

  • does anyone else find this scary lol

  • twenty dollars.

    ...

    twenty dollars...

    ...

    twenty dollars..

    HAUNTING voice!

  • yeah imagine what we'll be into in 20 years...

  • This is very much real. Earlier this month iVisit won 1st place in the CTIA Emerging Technologies award for iVisit RX and this application.

In the video description you can see two Federal grants awarded to iVisit for the development of this application, with clinical testing conducted at the VA.

  • Are the objects that are recognized put in the system beforehand or does the system read from the item?

    Or does it learn?

  • Looks neat! The object recognition part actually runs on a remote server, right? Then you only need a video link, have the remote server do the CPU-intensive object recognition work, and have it return the object label text, to be spoken by a local TTS engine on the phone.

    Thanks

  • A little skeptical... but if it were real... I have many blind friends that this could help immensely!

  • Can it recognize a photo of John Connor?

  • lol :D:D

  • Twenty Dollars

  • I pretty sceptical about this one. I guess this one is fake.

I know the principle of image recognition, but how can this kind of software run on a simple HTC (I have the same). Image processing needs a fast cpu.

  • ok... I'm a little pissed that my Kaiser (tilt) cannot take a decent photo without direct sunlight and a 5 second pause... I sense a little tomfoolery

  • Twenty Dollars

    Twenty Dollars

    Twenty Dollars

    Twenty Dollars

    Twenty Dollars

  • hops on Tokyo subway

    tries to get upskirt picture

    "PINK GIRLS PANTIES"

    SHIT

  • Haha!

  • Twenty Dollars

  • tuenty dolars

  • How come it didn't recognize the hand? I could play back a recording too... LOL

  • Yeah, but I bet you couldn't program iVisit SeeScan software... not laughing out loud.

  • I probably could. I was just saying that it is possible to do the same thing that is in this video another way. As a joke. Get the LOL there?

  • you should put it in a mirrior and see if it rocniges its self :P

  • you dont know how that could be helpful? really? close your eyes and tell me the difference between a $5 and a $10 bill. obviously youre not blind but many people are.

  • some people

  • You can easily tell the difference between a £5, £10 and £20 note, they're each different sizes, perhaps the designers were designing for visually impaired people, and partially sighted people since they're all different colours too... green, orange and purple

  • awesome video, I saw a video of sort of the same thing for the iphone a few months back... the technology may come in handy... i dont know how tho

  • why can't my laptop webcam do this

  • can it run crysis? FUCK DIGG

  • I have the ATT tilt, very good phone. Free tethering!

  • wat

  • HTC Kaiser, is that phone.

  • that the htc att 8925? i have that same phone

  • Its an HTC TyTN II

In the US its branded the AT&T Tilt. This one is different because it has a front camera as well.

  • But will it blend?

  • AHAHA

  • Sarah Connor.

  • awsome

does it work even if they are turned upside down

  • yep, it does. Orientation of the item is irrelevant.

  • how about show it a picture of $20

  • ahahahahah

  • SKYNET here we come.

  • -.-
