Too bad thats not the real CPAT Test...Thats straight out of the fire competition course....and it is short, quick hits to move the sled fast, not chopping wood here.
lmao he sucks even i know u gota keep ur feet infront of the slide thingy u have more power thats common sence right there i dont even know shit about firefighters
going in for the CPAT in two hours. If I get to that point, I want him to get my face and start screaming like a Marine DI haha. Since I didnt qualify for the marines because of medical reasons, going for my 2nd choice :)
"You're doing good, keep going. You're doing good man." Wow, talk about patronizing. I know that this exercise is hard. You really need to focus on how you swing the hammer to generate a good force. I've seen some guys lift the hammer half way up, barley making any sort of impact on the bar.
When I did it, I couldn't swing the sledge higher than the chest. It's not as hard as it seems as long as you keep momentum and follow through. Try to hit it flat as well and you should be good.
@Brandon12287 Ya, you must keep the slide that you are hitting behind your heels. Not next to your feet or in front of your toes. You will get a lot more power.
the trick is to keep your feet back behind the sled and hit low to get maximum force. i was pretty gassed at that point too on my phys agil testing. i dont see how ppl quit though. id rather die right there than quit.
The trick is to not have such a backswing. You need to have very quick hits. Don't stop either. The quicker you go the faster it'll be done with. I'm sure some of you out there know a lot about this.
The thing is that's only one part of the total testing. By the time he made it there he'd probably already finished the stair climb, hose drag, ladder deployment, or others depending on the choice of order established. CPAT is hard, but like they were saying in the video.. it's all in your head, or even moreso just strength of heart. Our forcible entry station had us hitting a standing target until it buzzed.
@kindbds007 yea true no one knows until they actually put full gear on and do that shit themselves.I know cardio, technique and breathing are some of the main things you need to obtain before this test. Most people who talks shit about it are not fireman because fireman support each other in everything that they do.Even as a fireman you have to rest and hydrate yourself if you don't you pass out and become disoriented afterwards if you are search and rescue you could cost 2-3 lives doing so.
nah i went like yesterday to the station and got in 4 same kinda as tht it looks like anywa......and they say ur supposed to hit it wit samll fast hits not big ones which i dont get...the only thing i can think of is so tht ur not swinging a heavy tool around in a certain area
We did this at a training drill at St.Paul. Being an explorer is awesome! To me, It's kinda like being a Firefighter... except we can't have any Patient Contact on EMS calls, and we can't go into burning buildings. We can help clean up afterwards tho! We can also help set up.
im in my 4th year as a Jr./explorer, i have 4 months until i become a sr. and all the guys in my department told me being a jr is alot more fun cause of all the stuff you learn, i didnt believe them at first but now i can admit it really is.
I know that feeling. . .about to throw up, everything hurts, and wanting to quit. Almost did it during a my first PAT. Thing that helps me, besides form, is remember what you are doing this for. You want to be a firefighter hard work, dedication, and never giving up is what we do. Make sure that you drive yourself. Its all a mental game. Trick your mind into helping you.
ya you can't just use your arms they'll start to hurt you need to use your whole upperbodies weight and muscle and you notice that it'll slide twice as far on every strike.
Hey shit happens man pick yourself up and get it next time around. people that are given yah a hard time have more than likely never tried it. :-/ good stuff though
The kaiser is pretty easy... I'm not that big of a guy, but it's easy if you know the rhythm and where exactly to hit it. I help out at the IFSI Explorer School and Fire College...
the thing is that you hit the face of the sledge flast where 100% of the face of the hammer hits the side adn you hit it right in the middle how do you think they win on teh carnaval game
WEAK!!!! lol jk jk
