Agreed that we should lead by action. Agreed that we must answer the question: What's in it for me. Since climate change is a global phenomenon (global warming = climate change, it hasn't gone away, but the term is inaccurate) it needs global policies to provide incentives. Most people are inherently selfish and short-term thinkers, i.e. me (and my family) now over 100 people in 10 years. Making pollution (any kind) expensive now encourages people to take the right action for the future.
Global warming is real and is man-augmented this cycle around in earth's history.
I think you touched the real heart of the "debate". Its not about whether its real or not.
Its about how happy you want to be about it.
Its stupid for people to try to deny just bc they cant be happy/optimistic about it.
Though I admit, it is indeed hard to be happy about some of the consequences predicted - but if we *can* predict some of these consequences we can have a better handle on dealing.
Remember when the 4 Kyoto Protocol Greenhouse Gasses were important & why we are only talking about CO2, the least evil of the 4 gasses?
The 2007 U.N. IPPC Report, Report 2, page 142 responds to the decrease by saying, The reasons for the decrease in the atmospheric CH4 growth rate and the implications for future changes in its atmospheric burden are not understood (Prather et al., 2001) but are clearly related to changes in the imbalance between CH4 sources and sinks.
Great video, but lets be real. Money is the only game and if you dont have it you're not in the game. You cant save the planet or rid the world of poverty and starvation when its you. Americans lived a fictional and always temporal wave of self importance and a savior mentality because our excesses made us feel guilty, well the guilt is gone and we've taken a whiff of reality. Global anything will soon dissipate like a cloud and self preservation will be the only goal.
The way I see it, we live in a three class society. Theres the upper class, the lower class and the ruling class. The upper class talks to us in sound bites, listens to us in surveys, but are controlled by a handful of lobbyists in the upper class. Theyre pass legislation on us but remain insolated from the effects knowing full well they can blame the other party
