this happened to me with my normal r4 the best thing to do is to format the sd card and reset the system i know it sucks but if u got saves nd games on it back them up then download new kernel and reset ur R4SDHC

you need to download the right firmware for it. It took me a month to figure out my r4 type and model and than a couple of days to find the right one. It worked perfectly after words.

Like everyone else I had huge problems getting my PC to recognise a 2 gig micro SD card in an SD carrier in a USB card reader; I tried the lot - HP format, using it in the camera, taping the write-protect tab & even freezing it. Still wouldn't recognise it. Then I bought a tiny little USB thing for about £2 that holds Micro SD cards without the SD card carrier; result? Recognised it immediately, no probs.

So I reckon there's an inherent problem in using the adapters.

it says ALL OVER THE PLACE that the original R4 will ONLY support 1 and 2gb microSD cards. The only PROBLEM here, is the user's stupidity for not reading the description of the R4 when he purchased it.

You need a special kind of R4 card to use 4+gb microSD cards.

dude its not the hardware its the user. the reason you are unable to use a that memory card in your r4 card is because you are using the wrong r4 card with memory cards that are sdhc you need to use an r4 sdhc card

Papajohn0125 R4's are no longer produced with Disc's as the original creators have ceased making them although you can easily find the firmware that was on the dics by searching google for R4 1.18 firmware :) its the latest and you should be ready to go as soon as its on ur sd card.

thnx, when i got my card i got a 4gb sd but my r4 wasnt sdhc compatible, so i had to go out and buy a 2 gb and it works great! one question though, are the r4 sd hc chips as good as the original r4 chips? i heard they freeze alot and dont work for some games and have alot of bugs and issues
