@sunami13 A cleaning only cost that much when you have periodontal disease. If your mouth was healthy instead of diseased the treatment would be far less.
I just had mine shipped today. I really wanted to have to avoid paying for a dentist just for tartar removal. Hopefully I will be able to do it myself at home with this pick.
@ChristianPainter131 How will you remove all of the calculus (tartar) at and below the gumline? Also you can't do a scaling on yourself that is comparable to what is done by a dental hygienist. I am a hygienist and clean my own teeth with much better equipment but I can only do so much on myself. I have to rely on someone else to really maintain the health of my teeth and gums. If you only knew how much more is done during a hygiene visit then you would have more respect the work we do.
Thanks for the feedback. This is a consumer product approved for sale, and it can be found at many major retail stores. The Sonic Pick is similar to Professional Dental Scalers and Explorers but with some differences that help make it safer for consumer use. The stainless steel that is used in the metal tip has a significantly lower shore hardness than professional tools, and is also softer than the enamel on the teeth. So when used as directed it is a very safe and effective product.
@paintedship Scaling is a controlled act.. Its meant to be performed by a qualified professional not people. So i dont think it will be approved by ADA or FDA.
@alboss13 That's really just an opinion. I've found these to work between dentists visits. They aren't as sharp as dentist's scalers so unless you're a total moron with it you're not going to damage your teeth or hurt yourself.
@alboss13 "Its meant to be performed by a qualified professional not people." Have you ever read what you type? No to be performed by "people". Heh, I'm sure the average adult can use the tool without much of a issue. Besides, not everyone likes having some guys meat beaters in his mouth.
WRONG! I am a hygienist and I have a Sonic Pick actually two. In the right hands the Sonic Pick works quite well. The sonic action helps to gently glide the scaler over the tooth and effectively remove plaque and calculus. It does not replace a professional "cleaning" though. Also the scaler is too bulky to access all of the interproximal space especially under the contact. IMHO people buy these OTC products but use them very little...LOL just like floss.
Since you are a hygienist can you explain how would average person with knowledge about perio pockets location and anatomy of the tooth, scale on his own posterior and lingual areas? Not without cutting their gums at least. Plus where is the water to cool off the heat produced by this ""sonic scaler""?
I highly doubt you are a Dental Hygienist. If you are you are an irresponsible and amateur one. You are not supposed to advertise products that have no scientific evidence that work
@alboss13 Wake up moron! Sentence #1: never said or implied any of your assumptions. #2: irrelevant, see #1. #3: OMG you are again assuming. There isn't any heat to cool, go buy & try one before condemning it. #4: I am & with 20yrs of experience. #5: Again assumptions. #6: Back at "cha. #7: I'm not advertising. Scientific evidence, OMG wake up; dentistry is fraught with so much dis-information it should disgust you. I hope the day you fall from your high horse comes soon.
@spokdope This scaler is meant to work on anterior teeth supra and not sub. If you completed your education in North America you should know that there are at least 7 different instruments required to properly clean hard to reach areas. 3 for posteriors 2 universals and 2 for anteriors. This "Magic sonic " can only be used on supra and interproximally for anterior teeth. How about posteriors? Its ok in your opinion to encourage people in buying an OHT that lacks basic functions? Shame on you
@alboss13 "Assumptions allow the best in life to pass you by." - John Sales
You are assuming a significant amount of information. The Sonic Pick is designed like a anterior jacquette duh! I never said or implied subgingival or posterior scaling. My guess is that you are a dentist or on your way to becoming one. I wish you luck, either way you have shown yourself to be a self righteous, arrogant ass. Just what we don't need more of. Your insults are in line with these feeling. GFY
@spokdope You said "WRONG" And you didnt explain why i was wrong so you watch your attitude not me. You have 20 years of experience? Well you need to review your updated RDH registrants book. I am not here to educate ignorant, irresponsible people that hold a license but are not dental professionals, but i will say this to prove you wrong.
@spokdope You say there is no heat to cool !! Well since you are an experienced Hygienist you should know that a Sonic instrument vibrates and causes heat. The advertising of this product says :"The sonic pulses gently vibrate to remove stains" So it does vibrate and vibration causes heat.
@alboss13 Once again you are incorrect. As I said before buy one and see for yourself....no heat issues to deal with. Maybe you feel the same with the sonic and ultrasonic toothbrushes. Used dry they they must generate heat and should not be used in this fashion. If you feel this way you are again misinformed.
@spokdope You are WRONG. Please do a favor to your self and open your books if you don't want to lose your license. Being and RDH is not just scaling calculus. You give a bad name to all other Dental professionals by claiming to know things that you have no idea about
@alboss13 You have failed to read what is written and to whom. Please review the tread. You are the one giving a bad name to the profession, because of your ignorance of an understanding of what has been addressed in each of my posts. I sure know more than you but then you are too ignorant to understand that.
does this produce a sonic frequency or is just a motor vibrating on it?
