Individuals can pool money together to campaign. Imagine hundreds of thousands of poor, uneducated and BUSY people coordinating their efforts to raise money for a candidate, or to support a bill. Probably can't imagine that, because it doesn't happen.

An organization can reach out to these people. That's going to be a corporation, for financial liability reasons.

@Visfen What happened "before" was simply abuse of the 14th amendment since the 1886 Santa Clara case. Citizens Unites simply made it tangibly legal, rather than the headnote placed on the minutes of the case in 1886, which was abused case after case after case. Now, were trying to make it tangibly ILLEGAL, by amending the constitution. Poor people buying adds is obsurd and makes no headway in bringing this issue out into the mainstream public.

You do vote directly for your representative, unlike Rome and other republics where the people or a limited subset did get to vote.

Or back in our founders day only land owners got to vote, which was quite undemocratic.

As a renter and knowing that such high percentage of land ownership isnt necessarily good and knowing it has nothing to do with quality of the person, I prefer our democratic republic over the old way.

The solution is to kill the so-called Democracy in such a way that democracy is limited only to election process and does not allow cherry-pick the Constitution. The decision in Citizens United is unconstitutional on its face. If we and corporations are equal now under law, why then are we treated unequally when it comes to political campaign disclosure, and the fact that corporations need not disclose? It's a violation of the equal protections clause.
