At work we talked about our Valentine's Day and music. I suddenly remembered "The Folk Singer" and had to listen to this simple love song that I remembered from my teens. This was the version I knew best. Thanks Tommy, where ever you are.
@Mraodom1966- Tommy did have a song titled "Moon Talk". The flipside had the song "Sweet Sounds". Both songs were from his album "It's Now Winter's Day" from 1967. If you are on Facebook- I have a "Fans Of Tommy Roe" page there. Ron
Local oldies radio station 1278AM in Melbourne always plays this song especially at night. Very soothing to listen to after a hard day's work. Love it!
I did a Tv show with Tommy (and Chris Montez).i think it was Six-Five Special or one of those. He was a really nice young guy and,for a change in those days,he was one who sang in tune.He did "Sheila"among other numbers but,Thank God,didn't do this one.let's face it,it do go on a bit (Musicians are,by nature,a bit cynical!! );BUT I'm sure it brought a lot of people a lot of pleasure.Good to see he's still on the planet and doing OK.
\\ Never heard this song before but I guess the reason is that it never hit it big in the US. I like it a lot. He has song great songs like "Sheila" and some really bad ones like "Jam up Jelly Tight" and "Dizzy".
Thanks so much. This was the first 45rpm I ever owned. My Dad bought it for me. He too was a singer and his mother was Sarah-Jane. I think this was why he chose it.
I remember dancing to this with my girlfriend at the time, I had it on an LP. It made slow dancing easy, thanks for posting it. It brings back good memories
I had forgotten this song, good to hear it again. I love it. Was there a song where a guy danced with a girl and the next day he found his coat on her grave? I cannot remember the name, thought it was by Tommy Roe
This song has been stuck in my head for over 45 years and I haven't heard it probably that long. On Sunday a friend showed me how to find the song on YouTube and I was ecstatic. He played it for me and I sang along - still remembered more than 2/3 of the lyrics. Beautiful song that takes me back to a more innocent time of life.
When I first heard this song back in 1963 I was sold on it. Tommy Roe proved himself to be a great ballad singer with this song as well as being a great R-N-R singer
There's another one he sings that I haven't been able to find anywhere - "He's a Working Class Hero" - really celebrated hard-working Americans...sure would love to hear that again:)
I used to go down to record shop and ask if they could get this song they never could,Very fist time on the internet i down loaded it in seconds magic

The story is like the Ballad of a Teenage Queen with the gender roles reversed.

Don Duke also released this on Embassy records in March 1963. It's a toss up as to who does it better.

Great tune by Tommy ... but unlike "Dizzy" it didn't make UK number 1 ... but still reached a respectable number 4 in 1963.

I think you mean "The Rhythm Of The Rain" by the Cascades. Came out in late 1962 0n Valiant Records. Dan Fogleberg had a version of it too.
