@KJLesnick We're nowhere near a quantum computer. That won't even become a necessary consideration until we start running into problems on the scale of Plank units.

Stupid as fuck, Why did they feel the need to spend 4 minutes elaborating something that can be summed up in one word "Evolution". Does this really need a citation? anyone over the age of 20 should have no problem verifying most of this by memory. Go play an old videogame. Then go play a new one. @rarelyserious It's actually pointing out that the population of India is more than four times that of the US, not making any real pertinent comparison regarding IQ or intelligence. The reference to IQ is erroneous and misleading.
What are the sources for the statistics in this video? Such as 25% of India's population has higher IQ than all of the US. Has all India actually been tested? Even 10% of India?
@rarelyserious You are reading the stats incorrectly. It's a comparison of population, not IQ. Basically it's just saying that India has a bit more than 4x the population of the US, ergo if you were to take the top 25% of the country it would still outnumber the entire US. Of course if you took the lowest 25% of the country, it would ALSO outnumber the entire US, so one could equally say there are more remedial students in India than kids in the US. All in how you frame the statement.
so if India has more honor's kids than America has kids, where the fuck are all the little Indian geniuses at to solve the world's problems, get those little dudes on this shit pronto

Very positive. Nothing is more powerful than information. Don't worry about being trained for something that will be soon obsolete. You can use your skills to adapt. Believe me, I have been programming for 35 yeas and am very up to date. It doesn't run away from you, you take it and run. The young generations have a wonderful future to look forward to.
WOW! About the human capabilities thing, not really. Computers can't. We have something so special computers cant have, two things! Reply to me what they are, winner gets a sub, good comment on all their vids, comment on channel, and more.
1: Free will. Computers are programmed to solve problems for humans. They can't do anything themselves; they're just as self-conscious as rocks.
2: A life. We interact with our own kind, while the closest way for computers to accomplish something like that is to copy information from a server to its hard drive, and even then it requires our help.
In my reality the computers that we have now do just fine out thinking the humans we have on the planet who watch reality tv and shop. just saying... lol
Being smart isn't enough. You have to be wise, too. This video is not wise, it's scary, because it assumes only a narrow field of methods for winning, and it assumes that winning is all that matters--and it does it in a way that gets everybody's heart rate up, even mine. Waste of a good song.
If you take 'computational capabilities' as 'intelligence' then by about 2013 we'll have an intelligent computer. Isn't the world supposed to end near the end of 2012? :O
If a catastrophic event rendered just a handful of people left on a large island. We would collectively know how a combustible engine works along with many modern things. It would still take hundreds of years to build the car again. We would have to learn to mine for metals, building tools to precise calibrations would take a long time even. Just think about it. We never learn to save our knowledge. Jesus saved so should we!..
I was linked to this video as an argument that technology will soon solve human sufferance and resource depletion. But despite wishful thinking, the problems of polluted environments and species extinction aren't going away and I think it is obvious that those issues are related to human well-being.
i wish there was an option beside the like/dislike bar that gave peoples reasoning for disliking things such as this because it baffles me and I can't figure out why they would.
@bb0888 They who produce this want to scare you. Propaganda, instill fear, but it looks like there are great possibilities for new industries...given the rapid rates of change.
The only problem I have with the vid is the bit about a computer's computational ability because a computer is only as smart as the engineers who designed it.
Computational ability =/= intelligence. It is very plausible that a computer will be able to perform better than a human brain. What's not plausible is said computer gaining intelligence. I hope we're smart enough as a species to not ever let that happen.
Means you need to pause, take a deep breath and figure out what to do with what you made BY NOW, not what you'll make FROM NOW. Instead of making quantitative progress we ought to focus on quality more. 1 billion people is nothing, 10 atom bombs can wipe them of the face of the earth. Learn how to use technology for the good of the species instead of control and destruction. Until we get that we won't move from this rock any time soon.
Some scientists predict that in within 30 to 50 years nano technology will possibly make humans practically immortal. Immortal because our minds could supposedly be backed u, all of our tissue, organs, limbs, and blood regenerated. If you could back up one's mind, someone could even be shot in the heart and regenerate, assuming the bots can restart the heart and restore the brain to full capacity. The only way to kill a person would be to incinerate them. This is a good reason to stick around eh
the only thing shocking about this vid is the $4 price of the NY Times

Believe me, I have been programming for 35 yeas and am very up to date. It doesn't run away from you, you take it and run. The young generations have a wonderful future to look forward to.

Maybe this exponential race is something like "matter whirling faster and faster in the accretion disk before falling into the black hole" :P

WOW! About the human capabilities thing, not really. Computers can't. We have something so special computers cant have, two things! Reply to me what they are, winner gets a sub, good comment on all their vids, comment on channel, and more.

@UpForDanceroid I'll try.

ALIheartsvolleyball7 10 months ago
Being smart isn't enough. You have to be wise, too. This video is not wise, it's scary, because it assumes only a narrow field of methods for winning, and it assumes that winning is all that matters--and it does it in a way that gets everybody's heart rate up, even mine. Waste of a good song.

UnifiedPerfection 10 months ago
If you take 'computational capabilities' as 'intelligence' then by about 2013 we'll have an intelligent computer. Isn't the world supposed to end near the end of 2012? :O
(lol just joking)

If a catastrophic event rendered just a handful of people left on a large island. We would collectively know how a combustible engine works along with many modern things. It would still take hundreds of years to build the car again. We would have to learn to mine for metals, building tools to precise calibrations would take a long time even. Just think about it. We never learn to save our knowledge. Jesus saved so should we!..
shinnob 11 months ago
I was linked to this video as an argument that technology will soon solve human sufferance and resource depletion. But despite wishful thinking, the problems of polluted environments and species extinction aren't going away and I think it is obvious that those issues are related to human well-being.

@bb0888 They who produce this want to scare you. Propaganda, instill fear, but it looks like there are great possibilities for new industries...given the rapid rates of change.

The only problem I have with the vid is the bit about a computer's computational ability because a computer is only as smart as the engineers who designed it.
lockdown260 11 months ago
@lockdown260

MY MIND IS SO FULL OF intriguing information
ThatOneCoolBro 1 year ago
Some scientists predict that in within 30 to 50 years nano technology will possibly make humans practically immortal. Immortal because our minds could supposedly be backed u, all of our tissue, organs, limbs, and blood regenerated. If you could back up one's mind, someone could even be shot in the heart and regenerate, assuming the bots can restart the heart and restore the brain to full capacity. The only way to kill a person would be to incinerate them. This is a good reason to stick around eh
