absolutely beautiful, how the fuck did we get from this to " yoyo soulja boi , just dance lady gaga", i mean im not surprised stuff evolved, but how could it go so wrong O_O
This song was sung by a male artist somewhere between 1949 & 1952. Does anyone remember who this recording star was. I love this song and that version was the best I have ever heard. I would appreciate any input. Thank you for posting this wonderful video.
kspm01 ive been searching for this song for years and found it on a ukulele site.now that ive found it i have come across it quite often. Thanks for the words
A wonderful vintage version of one of my favorite songs. Just beautiful song, one I sang many times to myself when overseas and separated from my family.
@guitaress1...... I have the sheet music. The verse goes:
"Evening marks the close of day, Skies of blue begin to grey, Crimson hues are fading in the west. Evening ever brings to me, Dreams of days that used to be, Memories of those I love the best." A Jazz disc jockey named Charlie Menees broadcast in St. Louis when I was a teenager back in the late forties, until he passed away a few years ago, used this as his theme song. I lived down the street from him later, Mine is a copy of his.
A lovely version and a VERY fine band, that seems to be one of the obscure unknowns and it shouldnt be as its so good.I have this in a very good version by Ambrose but this is just as good.
Neat Brueghel-esque image makes a neat contrast with the black & whites. Esp. love that family dinner table scene...so rare these days in America. And who's that elderly gentleman?
Grzegorz, What a warm and beautiful video! You are truly a ARTIST. Posting such a lovely video takes lots of talent indeed!

I have this on a Hit of the Week w/Rudy Vallee and his Connecticut Yankees. Great Record and beautiful Ballad.

One of my favorite 30s ballads. It also has a nice verse, not done here. I didn't know about Van Steeden before. Thanks.

I thought that this tune came out in 1932?.

I'm not sure, i found the date Nov. 25, 1931, as well as the superb lyrics:
When shadows fall and trees whisper day is ending,
My thoughts are ever wending Home.
When crickets call, my heart is forever yearning,
Once nore to be returning Home.
When the hills conceal the setting sun,
Stars begin a peeping one by one.
Night covers all and, though fortune my forsake me,
Sweet dreams will ever take me Home.

Really would like to hear more recordings of this band, nothing seems to have been reissued, though.

Romantic without being sentimental. Same goes for the pictures. I like this version better than the Rudy Vallee record I posted.
