  • Bathing a rat is equivalent to bathing a cat. Rats are extremely clean.

  • when picking up there pop like u do everyday use a cat scupper it will pick up just the poop and u wont have to use ur hands

  • your son is so cute lol. and thank you for the home made cleaner idea.... rat cage cleaner from the pet store is getting too expensive

  • What are u using for bedding? i hope its not pine or cedar.

  • You really don't need to bathe your rats. You've probably heard it all, but it seriously is bad for their skin, it's not natural, the only time it should really be done is if they get into something messy. And even then you can just wipe them down with a wet rag.And if their fur is greasy, they have small animal dry shampoo, it's a powder and you just put some on and brush it out.Really you are just wasting your time bathing them, it's so pointless and unhealthy.

  • wha bedding is best and cheap to se for rats

did you use wood shavings for like hampster and gerballs

  • @kingpeebrain12

Lots of people use wood shavings but I have had rats my whole life and have used every bedding there is to use, I really don't recommend wood shavings. (I use fleece now)

I believe she is using kaytee soft-sorbent bedding, or something similar. It's absorbent and soft, so it's a pretty good choice, but also add shreds of paper for nesting, (if you don't have a paper shredder you can also buy eco bedding, but don't use paper on it's own. It gets too smelly.)

  • @love4ferrets thanks alot :D

  • @kingpeebrain12

    Haha cute,

    and you're welcome. (:

  • It's good that you clean your cage so thoroughly and so often, it's better for your rats' lungs, good job. :) However, bathing your rats so often can dry their skin out a bit, it's best to do it only every few months or when they really need it.

  • please dont bath them once a month. it can irritate their skin. you should only bath them maximum twice a year.

  • @PleaseStopTalking5

    pretty sure they are fine

  • @etanna can you use dog shampoo for your rat?

  • @airforce812

i wouldnt its way too harsh with chemicals

  • Comment removed

  • @airforce812 Well i hope u dont mind im gonna re-answer that! Ok i wash mine probably once every 4-5 month or so and i use pet dog cat and small demestic animal shampoo does irritate theyre skin and leaves em smelling good! and its soap free so not nearly as many chemicals and to wash cages i use like a tiny squirt of dishwashing liguid mixed with half a bucket of water to awash the shelfs and the walls!

  • @etanna No. @PleaseStopTalking5 is right. It could dry their skin completely. Do research before you do that to your rats.

  • @PleaseStopTalking5 ..Rats are supposed to be bathed way more than once a year. Most rats love water when exposed to it from a young age, and rats in the wild are in water almost everyday. I have a hairless and his vet recommends baths 2-3 times a week. With male rats especially, because they develop a buck grease, they are supposed to be bathed at least once a week with a diluted antibacterial soap. I really hope you bathe your rat more than once a year..

  • @Hollydoll317 Um hairless rats should be bathed less then ANY rats. Once a week is too often; specially for hairless rats. The hairless ones have oils on their skin that they need (Like instead of fur) when you bathe them often it washes the oils off of them and it's not good.

  • @horselover8408 Xavier, my hairless rat is prone to cysts and blackheads, and must have his skin exfoliated and cleaned at least once a week, otherwise he will have to get surgery. He's already had 2 surgeries, and ever since I have been bathing him more frequently, he's had no problems with cysts or blackheads. I also supplement his diet with fish oil and olive oil, to keep his skin from becoming dry.

Oil on their skin is exactly why their pores become clogged and they must be bathed.

  • @Hollydoll317 True they don't need LOTS of oil on their skin but MOST hairless rats that don't have overload of oil builup like yours shouldn't be bathed very often because it'll wash away the oils, but it seems that your rat gets to much oil and must be bathed to prevent things from happened; i'm just saying for most hairless rats lots of bathing isn't reccomended.

  • @horselover8408 My Russian dwarf is called xavier :)

  • @1flub1 Cute!

  • @PleaseStopTalking5 my friend bathes them all the time and they are fine, it definitely matters how much soap you use though.

  • With a spoon O-o xD lol

  • Thanks helpful we r nre a having a rat we love just trying to learn facebook peolpe

    klay boren

  • Ewww your picking up the poop with your hands!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Zoona9, Grow up

  • @Zoona9 your such a little kid

  • u took good care in your rats nicely done x

  • can you please tell me HOW do you pick up the poop with your hands?!!!

  • my rats have the same igloo!

  • What cage are you using?

  • where did you get your cages? They look great!

  • you cant force him to take a bath??!

    rats dont stink!

  • get a litter box. That cage is discusting. And, u dont have to clean it everyday, u only have to scoop the poop out, once every 1-2 weeks you can clean it.

  • no giving them baths doe snot drie out there skin

  • why are you bathing the rat? rats shouldnt need baths, you will be drying out its skin and making it itchy. if its dirty and you feel the need to clean it, use a scent free baby wipe not a bath with kitten shampoo :\

  • how long does the spray last? like does it go disgusting if left in the bottle?, and how much water ?

  • um well it usually last me a couple months and it hasn't gotten any bad smells or anything and u just fill the 2 liter bottle up with water after putting in the vinegar and baking soda

  • Aww! I am so glad that I'm not the only person in the world who bathes their rats & isn't scared of their poop. o.0

    Verrrrrrry cuuuuuute. (:

  • what are they called mine are salt and pepper

  • all their names are spoken and at the end of the video

    boys- splinter browni pepper

    girls-marsha lavender pixie

  • Nice video :-D

How do you dry your rats? Because i should be getting some pretty soon and i don`t know how i should dry them, obviously with a towel, but their so wriggly! lol Oh and your kids are so cute!! lol, Love the end tho, " your pissin me off now!" ha ha ha

  • hmm i thought i already responded to this but i guess it didnt show up so here it is again lol

you just put them in the middle of the towel and rub them and if the get out (which they will) just put them back in the middle it doesn't take very long to dry them and as they get used to you they will calm down. mine usually love to be dried in the towel

  • ok thanx.

Shall try that when their older, because their only 6 weeks old at the mo, So their still getting used to me.
