I got the latest Genesic GaoGaiGar Final Version, seems the the issues you are pointing out for that release of the figure have ben adressed, Its one expensive piece of glory this but if anyone gonna buy one then go for the "final version" (should be stated on the boxart)
@mechafanboy Yes, it seems they have fixed some of the major issues. But one point to note is that it is still advisable not to display him on the stand with the U shaped stand resting against the hips. It is still prone to cutting the hips due to the weight of the body.
the final version was given the justice the first release "should" have had along with a bonus finger-pointing hand to to recreate the scene from the anime. :)
but yeah then again my figure is not 4 years old either so.. (just 2 I think)
you recall if it was nice and sturdy when it was about 2 years old for you?
@mechafanboy Yes the figure was very sturdy for the first time I put it on display. I did not touch it for 4 years in my display shelf and it just fell apart when I took it out to clean the shelf.
I have the 1.5 Version, which is fine, so far, and which is one the most beatiful gokins I have. But nevertheless: this is scary. I won't be able to touch mine anymore, after seeing this...
You ever tried to contact Max Factory? What did they say?
@flug747 i have the 1.5 version too. And I am keeping it sealed, so that I have a perfect undamaged piece. I do agree that this is one of the best gokin out there. It's just a pity that the materials used wasn't up to par. I doubt the guys at Maxfactory can do anything about it actually.
@DioBrandoWRYYYYYY The problem is mainly with the version 1.0. The version 1.5 seems to be better as there are no negative reviews thus far. Still, it's better to play safe getting this piece. I'd recommend that you get it only if you really like it and it's cheap.
@darkroxas25 I agree it's one of the best robot anime ever made. I wished they continued to have a short series at least to show that everyone came back safely to earth. That would have been a perfect ending. They did have plans initially to have a series based on the 2 kids but it was scrapped off, unfortunately.
@darkroxas25 Yea, it was really uncalled for the team to wander in space, lost in that dimension. Sometimes, I don't know what the producers or scriptwriters are thinking. I am very sure they had intended for a sequel because the narrator mentioned in the end "Will we ever see our heros again?" or somewhere along the line. Sunrise must be mad to give up on their best franchise ever.
@OptimusPrimeSG yes. you do have good point. but then too many people made many super robots anime that have bad endings. i dont understand. -.- come on, people..give us the ending for gaogaigar already
I have the ver.1.5 and it's sealed. However, the ver.1.5 suffers from the same issues based on what is reviewed by Hong Kong collectors as well as what I've seen with my own eyes. The ver.1.5 in a retail shop was displayed with the stand. Months later, I noticed that the joint connecting the thighs have cracked on both sides. I'm sure it's going to break soon.
For the MAS GaoGaiGo, the joint is made of hard PVC/ABS, as per all their other Brave series robots. The problem with that joint is that it's quite thin and brittle. The Gaofighgar I got from the GaoGaiGar Final DVD set also broke at the thigh when I took it out of the box.
The 'split' is inevitable as the lower legs are both very big. The problem with displaying it without the stand is that the gold toes will crack with time due to the weight on them. The best is to just keep it in the box or place something over the U-shape stand, so that the figure is resting on the vertical piece of the hip rather than have the pin at the hip be supported by the U-shape.
Putting the figure on the display base causes a lot of strain on the pin holding the 2 legs together. This is because the stand has a U shape to hold the pin and the weight of the body pressing down on the stand will cause the pin to be cut by the stand and eventually break the pin over time.
@OptimusPrimeSG Ah, I see now I get you. Most pictures on the net tend to not use the stand, but I feel that the figure tends to do the 'spilts' and his legs spread out too much for my liking.
The damage looks so serious, from a display base imagine not putting the figure on a display base. Doesn't make sense though does it? Putting it on a display stand puts off any pressure or strain on the joints so why does it break?
But I will inevitably buy this figure someday the sculpting and proportions on this figure make it a must buy for me, but it WILL break eventually from your experience, right?
I paid around $200 for the first version 4 years ago. That is still the average price till date. The price does not go up because most collectors know about the problem of this piece. It's really a pity that this masterpiece was not made using better material. If they had used the same metal as what Bandai does, I am sure it will be a lot more durable.
Ahh, what a shame I was thinking of getting the 1.5 FINAL Version of this, with the three extra hands but I don't understand why Max Factory used such cheap joints to hold together a heavy die-cast figure.
How much did you pay for this by they way, the average market price for this is around $200, right?
you sound familiar
