so cool. its like it eats all that vegetation simply to make its chrysalis to fly free,. kinda like it transforms the plant matter into its 'escape pod'..lol :)
@dare12288 I agree. As an engineer, i have to believe this beautiful metamorphosis could not have evolved by natural selection, ....but instead designed and engineered by a Masterdesigner for no other reason than for beauty.
If you're interested in growing milkweed and raising monarch butterflies, contact me. The monarchs need all help we can give them. I can refer you to other monarch sites as well and hopefully give you tips on raising them. Thanks again for posting this clip!
Thanks for posting this! This is my second year in raising Monarch butterflies. When I started, I found second instar-size caterpillars to work with. This year I'm harvesting eggs and now have two containers with hatched and VERY hungry caterpillars! One just finished molting into his second instar stage and he's keeping himself busy eating! Video was very educational! We need more people to grow milkweed and help keep the Monarch butterflies in existence! Grow milkweed!
It's funny coz a female hatched and then it showed a male adult butterfly on the wood outside

i wonder what goes on in the actual cocoon, like if you left it alone for 5 days than came back and took the cocoon off what it'd look like

Whoooaaaa. It's so crazy when the caterpillar makes the cocoon. It looks like it just appears! It's ridiculously awesome.
