Unless you plan to travel to every state every year, GSSF will only be near you once or at best a few times each year. GSSF is a traveling thing always on the move, one location for one weekend, then the next
IDPA usually run once a month (or more) at local ranges.. so like here in Tucson, we could shoot a few IDPA matches each month without driving out of town
Thanks for putting this video, GSSF Glock Match in Tucson, Arizona (Oct, 2009) on YouTube. It gave me a clear understanding of what to do for the competition. I plan to compete in Feb 2011 in Orlando and other than practicing, I'm having a lot of fun. Thanks again...
Keep checking out You Tube, thee are a few guys that post what their matches are like. I suspect yours in FL will be a bit nicer (and larger) than our little one in Tucson
Good luck in the event, they are a lot of fun (and there is always a chance to win a free pistol !!)
GunWebs what was your take on the experience etc ? It seems like fun but I'd be nervous about being a 1st time shooter etc. Do they have restrictions on sights ? (I have XS sights on mine) or is it kinda an open class setup for entry levels ? I am very interested and it seems like loads of fun !!.. Any input is appreciated !
@GunWebsites - Ya bro the Piru shoot is in Nov 6-7 and Piru is only about 1hr from me in Los Angeles. Hell no I don't expect to win I expect to get a humble and learning experience and have fun doing it. I know the website says bring 100rds which is no prob but curious on the average registration, magazine count you'd need (i have 2 currently) and if you need a holster or if there are any other fees I don't know. I tried to bring the registration form up but the file was "damaged or corrupt"
Well, if you have one or two guns it's worth going IMO
But I have a few glocks, so I can shoot in a bunch of 'divisions' and then the costs add up quick
It's not a very long match, unless it's very busy we are usually done in 15 minutes, so it's easy to stay for a while and shoot it a few times, but it dents the wallet to do that..
@GunWebsites - Well I do have a few firearms but only 1 is a Glock which I would think is a prerequisite to the match.. I was more concerned about having some extra mags.. I only have 2 mags for my g22 but if 3-4 is suggested I wouldn't mind picking up a couple.. I am still 50/50 on going and I think it will be a fun experience and excluding ammo if I spend $100 that sounds decent for a day of fun, new experiences and meeting other gun enthusiasts.
No offense to the video or anyone shooting but by the pace of the matches and time between shots it seems like something I could be comfortable with. I've never shot a GSSF and thought I would be a noob for being slow but there is one about 1hr from me in Piru,CA in Nov I am thinking about trying for the experience but I'm trying to get some info on it and I don't care if I'm slow, just want the experience to be around the gun community. Nice video !!!
First time I shot the plates at a Glock match (also first time shooting them in competition) I thought "this will be easy"
Then I was schooled..
I am really bad at them, but this year I did better than ever before.. I went slower and just thought "front sight" the whole time, bouncing the front sight from plate to plate (like you're supposed to, LOL)
I missed this year's Gssf match, I like how casual everything is. Just walk up shoot and chill. You can pretty much take your time and do your own schedule.
I really wish they did it more than once a year. Did you win a free pistol?
I think you can still win a random drawing and not have to place. I think if they had more matches it may be cheaper. There are a lot of new glock owners out there. Did you all have a pistol for each division?
Woah windy.

They have a GSSF shoot in Piru (as far as I know)
Anyone can enter, you won't win, if thats all you care about don't enter.
It isn't cheap really.. I am in the fence if I will shoot it again this year

third match, no pistol yet... well this weekends results aren't up, but I doubt I'll win, I sucked today
but they are fun to shoot anyway, and it's good to get out and shoot with new people, etc
I agree they should be more often (and a bit cheaper)

dakine425 2 years ago
Yup, I plan on winning that 'random' Glock one of these years, because I doubt I'll be winning one for points just yet..
I did bring a few pistols and a LOT of ammo, but it is $25 per division, and I just couldn't afford to shoot as many as I would have liked
So I just shot the one with a Glock 17 and did miserably
(it was the Ninja Glock too... dang it)
I should have left all the junk on it, maybe then I would have won, LOL
GunWebsites 2 years ago
or maybe, just maybe, then you would have been a Glock NInja!
Another good vid on what else there to shoot once the aluminum can supply is gone.
