  • I really dont like the art style in this game, if you compare it to something like Strider it just sucks. Having said that this is a goodgame and hes more athletic than strider in many ways. I just wish the graphics had been drawn a bit better. Nice execution though...

  • Wow, I remember doing the graphics and design for this game many moons ago. I still have a soft spot for this one. Thanks for all the great responses to it.

  • @TheHaydndalton Wow! It really is you. Wonderful work. What do you do now?

  • @yasswah Yes it is, and thank you for the kind words!

I'm still developing games, it's all I've ever done. I'm the lead designer on Darksiders 2 (THQ), I was also the Lead on Darksiders :) The last game I was involved with graphics-wise, was Mortal Kombat III on the Gamegear.

  • @TheHaydndalton Amazing. So you started off as a graphic artist and now word as a Lead. Had that always been your goal say 20 years back?

  • @yasswah I was essentially the lead artist/designer on Assassin, as I was co-founder of the company (Psionic Systems) that created it. I've always been interested in the design aspect of development though, as I want to create games I'd want to play ;)

  • @TheHaydndalton Something I've always wanted for myself. Design games and play them myself. I was very much inspired with games like Project-X, Jaguagr XJ220, Mortal Kombat, just to name a few . I started working on C-64 Basic language and after buying an Amiga I jumped to Easy AMOS then AMOS Professional and even tried Blitz Basic 2. Did some basic graphics, animation and coding to make my own mini games. Well that was my dream then but now I work at a school.

  • @yasswah It's great that there's so many tools for wannabe game creators now. There's still lots of opportunity out there :)

  • @TheHaydndalton Yeah definitely there are opportunities but times have changed. Everything is now 3D and back in the days it was only 2D. For me working with 3D seems very challenging. How do you see it since you have worked with both areas?

  • It's been about twenty years since I played this game!!! Ah nostalgia!

  • I remember loving this game, cheap way to skip the level at whichever one it is at 1 hour in is to run to the right at start and just jump off the edge, so long as you land where the boss fight starts you don't die.

  • I remember if you typed in swearwords on the high scores it swore back at you

  • The difference is, the Assassin in the orignial Version has a Boomerang, some other Levels and Enemys

  • what's the difference between this assassin SE and the Assassin common version?

Lies hidden deep, within his underground lair.

  • Holy crap! I wrote something about a year ago on my synth that sounded almost EXACTLY like the music at around 3:20! I always thought, 'hey, this should be in a video game' and I guess it already was :P

  • The original Assassin was in my opinion quite terrible to play but this Special Edition version made up for that and improved on it immensely!

But i still didn't bother with this version anyway because although i played the Special Edition, the previous incarnation left a bad taste in my mouth and stayed with me.

  • The title intro and music brought it all flooding back. Better than Amiga Strider granted, But The megadrive version reigned supreme.

  • Better than Strider, but not Turrican. My mates' Amiga was linked up to stereo sound, so this game sounded fantastic. Esp when you could hear the random screams during gameplay. Hard, but top game.

  • "...One man is needed... Than man is YOU!"

  • What a great game... atmospheric music, psychedelic places, cyber freakin monsters... what more can we say? love 90's :) proud to be born in 1989 :D

  • man amiga games were fun. waiting for the credits to finish so you could play. the suspense was intense. and i remember with street fighter you had to chang the dick so may times depending on who you were fighting. classics

  • The Amiga's answer to Strider...

  • It was better, required a tad more thinking, with great action, the weapons had slight physics. QUALITY GAME!!! Who gave the thumbs down?

  • The music kicks ass

  • Good stuff. Well done for keeping that Hi-Score soundtrack in there at the end as well, it's a lovely little piece of music.

Although perhaps Team 17 could've omitted the "You'll never defeat Midan" recording in this particular scenario...

  • What a game, Great stuff, Classic, classic, classic, and that music rules.

  • looks a lot like Strider!

  • a lot like metroid

  • can of wormssssss

He still looks white to me, though.

  • A fucking fantastic game! Team17 fucking rules!
