I'm pretty sure you could buy (or make) a high strength plexiglass or plastic cover that would shield the phenon tubes (I THINK thats the gas they use) but it would make the saber too heavy to fight with.

From what I know, all jedi got their own color. The force helps them make their own lightsaber so the color varies.

Dark jedi just mass-produce theirs and/or uses different crystals in it.

It is the crystal that is put into the lightsaber that determines the color. If you want a yellow lightsaber then go put a yellow crystal in there. The force has nothing to do with the lightsaber what so ever, meaning an ordinary person can build and use a lightsaber if he/she knew what they were doing.

Technically, no. It would take an extraordinary person, because the alignment of the crystals has to be 100% perfect, and Force sensitive folks use the Force to align them properly. Without the use of the Force, it's extremely difficult to construct a lightsaber.

Only one person ever does it, and that's Jaden from Jedi Academy, who happens to be Force sensitive.
