  • So, so beautiful!! Priceless...

  • Make sure to listen to Jackson C. Franks original version as well. I think its even stronger.

  • Her voice was made from Gold and Silver !!!!

  • @Blake788

    Stop spamming. Thank you.

  • @le6006 Actually, the lyrics floating around on the web are incorrect. It's "Yes and No are the answers" (and most of the sites that repeat that same error have "Milk and honey were their lives" as the last line when it's really "Milk and honey were their lies"). Normally I wouldn't bother mentioning this, but I think those two lines are integral to the sense of the song.

  • very beautiful music

  • Many, Many thanks, to Sandy and to Kagster99 for posting it. Timeless; one of the best voices in the history of recorded music.

  • Have very recently discovered Sandy, did not realise how empty my soul was until now. Sandy, goodnight sweet Angel, sleep well....

  • More,please more...

  • Would gladly, and literally, sacrifice 100 today's so called "rock stars" to hear this amazing girl singing again.

Such a shame she died so young.

  • Dear @Kagster99, could you, please, tell on which album or compilation this particular version can be found?? I have Sandy's "Milk and Honey" on the album "Dark the Night", but it's quite different. This version is much interesting and beautiful I think. :)

  • @TheVelvetBride Its from a compilation called 'Gather in the Mushrooms, The British Folk Underground 1968-1974' which can be found on Amazon :)

  • @Kagster99 Thank you very much! :)

  • @TheVelvetBride I have that version on an LP called "Sandy & Johnny" on the SAGA label 33rpm.

  • @ciss79 Thank you very much! I will try to find that one too :)

  • @ciss79 R.I.P. Johnny Silvo. He was one of nature's gentlemen,.

  • This reminds me of "Humble Pie" for your love :) Nice song and guitar playing indeed.

  • When Eva Cassidy slipped over into the "ether," Sandy was waiting there, with arms wide open....

  • What a soft touch voice but with such strength.

  • I have only heard her in Led Zeppelin's Battle of Evermore - one of my absolute favourite songs. Now I am going to look into more of Sandy Denny's music. This is great!

  • Sandy Denny..............what can one say?

Her voice has always rendered me speechless.

    Beautiful.

  • I'd never heard Sandy Denny other than a few Fairport Convention songs and hardly knew she existed. I was into Cream, the Stones, CSNY, The Who, etc. Thank God for youtube, at least for discovering lost diamonds like her. I know you'll all say, she wasn't lost, you were. Her voice was incredible and so far, she picked and wrote great songs to play. Every accolade she's ever received was deserved. Thank you Kagster99 and all the other posters who put her music on YT!!!

  • beautiful, check out Nick Drake's version

  • yes, Sandy was Jackson C Frank's girlfriend

  • It could do with some compression, but unfortunately her voice goes into the red and you can't do anything about that

  • Sandy Denny forever.................

  • I didn't know anyone else knew of Sandy Denny. I loved her voice since I was little. I am sorry to hear she has passed away... :/

  • @cceleste23 Bloody Hell. She died thirty years ago!

  • @cceleste23 : Passed away a good while ago....but her music lives on eternally

  • Simply magic.

  • i dont like her voice very much. in general i dont like female singers besides PJ harvey..

the original version by the amazing Jackson C frank is way better than all the covers.. and his album is really good... a lot of people dont know about him

  • @ORIENTALY Black, Black is were it's at, Aretha, Dianna Reeves, Sarah Vaughn, it just doesn't get better, but I like Sandy.

  • I always approach covers with some suspicion, but I must say that this one's very very good

  • Can somebody tell me who originally wrote this song?

  • @eirinikos I think it's Jackson C. Frank

  • I like more Nick Drake version, but this one is nice too

  • Fantastic version!

  • Fantastic cover! I think the original is more authentic to the song, but this is a amazing intense interpretation,

  • This was recorded with the Strawbs.

  • Has anyone pointed out that Sandy and Jackson occasionally dated in the 60s? As to the 2nd guitar on this: I've always felt it to be Al Stewart who was at the original JCF album recordings.

  • @RatherLargeAllan The track comes from the session she recorded with Johnny Silvo in 1967, originally issued on the "Sandy and Johnny" LP. So I guess the second guitarist is Johnny. He's still going strong. Saw him in concert a couple of years ago.

  • Hmmmm beautiful, Jackson C Frank :)

  • Stunning{ My guess is this is probably about 1968. The other guitarist is superb as well

  • so haunting .. i can see whee Ane brun and beth gibbons proberbly got there influences from :D x

  • It's a cover, she didn't write the song.

  • whoa, ya

  • beautiful..

  • she makes a great cover with the beautiful voice of hers.

  • Gold and silver is the autumn Soft and gentle are her skies Yes I know, are the answers Written in my true love's eyes Autumn's leaving, winter's coming I think that I'll be moving on I've got to leave him and find another I've got to sing my heart's true song Round and round the burning circle All the seasons, one, two, and three Autumn leaves with the winter Spring is born and wanders free Gold and silver burnt my autumns All too soon they'd fade and die ...
  • ...

And then there were no others

Milk and honey were their lies

  • thank You so much , for the Lyrics

  • Yes and no are answers,

at least that' s what I hear...

  • You're right. Completely right.

  • @le6006 Isn't it "Yes and No are the answers?"

  • @le6006 *Yes and No are the answers

  • @le6006

YES AND NO are the answers

Written in my true love's eyes

  • Sublime !

  • hoy son 31 años de su partida.....gracias Sandy por tu voz y hermosas melodias.................siempre estaras en mi a traves de tus melodias y gran voz.........gracias Sandy......

  • It's so sad that she is gone so early. What a beautiful performance.

  • Another stunning and beautiful Sandy song and so introspective. I will never forget seeing Sandy in concert. Poor Jackson C. Frank, who wrote this song, never got the credit he deserved and had a very rough post-1960s existence and never seemed to fully recover from the Buffalo NY school house fire that took the lives of ten of his fellow sixth grade classmates in 1954.

  • this is a beautiful tune and if indeed it seems to be a response to this tragedy JCF experienced as a child then it was an artistic and lovely lasting lyrical response that we all now get to hear on youtube. Thanks for giving Jackson credit.

  • Ah! Sandy!

What an amazing artist she was! I can listen to this cover over and over and...

  • he voice is mind-blowing, but i'm not sure if this song would sound much better without that second guitar

  • Totally agree she does'nt need the 2nd guitar....or the 1st....lol...Her voice was and is amazing

  • I get tears, its so beautiful....

  • This is pure magic, I have to admit I had not heard this before, and I have always been an admirer of Sandy's work. Who is playing the guitar or is it a mandolin

  • i only listened to it one time and it made me cry at once.

    it's so beautiful.

  • Fabulous song, thanks, nancy. I'm guessing Led Zepp's Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is derivative or vice versa..the opening reminded me alot of it.

  • Interesting, I think you're right. Of course Zep were big fans of Sandy Denny, and this predates their first album. Gorgeous songs both.

  • Beatiful, yes, she has really made it her own but please listen to the original by Jackson C Brown

  • jackson c frank

  • Yes of course, JACKSON C FRANK, sorry. Funny I didn't know either of them Brown & Franck up to last week and now I mix up their two names

  • Wonder if she ever covered 'Dialogue' by Jackson C. Frank. That may be THE saddest song of all time.

  • She was and will always be "The Lady".

  • and no less!

  • hey there both beautiful but can someone please put jackson c franks original version one youtube xxx

  • there are meanwhile 2 vids by J.C.F. on utube;

...and a great one by Bonnie Dobson no one will wish to miss :)

    Denny's cover's also superb ;)

  • It was also in the movie 'The Brown Bunny'.Utube search the trailer for that movie and you'll see what I mean.

  • ty toec..rr, great trailer, haven't seen that movie; but the trailer really adds some atmosphere to the orig.vid, and the poem becomes more transparent, haha grandiose promises...

  • the deserter dear landlord and this aarrrgghh

  • I thought Nick Drake's version of this song was good til I heard this... stunning.
