  • Wonderful!!!

  • eww. i dont like what he's doing when he shift really fast... must be getting old and crazy

  • wow! I'd like to see a bow vibrato sometime ;)

  • So many cellists play this phrase with that big shift on the f# instead of emphasizing the A like tortelier said, and I so agree with tortelier on this shift. it bothers me when they shift of the f# it sounds not good.

  • that guy is just awsome. both of them. but it would annoy the fuck outta me my teacher would always say "see you did that wrong, jaquline du pre woulve done that perfectly right away!"

  • @Philboy50 My teacher studied with him for a short while and said she ended every lesson in tears

  • @nimuroji was that because she had been verbally abused in her lessons, or because they were truly exhilirating?

  • Just one of the amazing features of his classes is that they're basically universal and whatever instrument you play, you can learn a lot

  • Thanks a lot for these videos :-)

    M&L

  • I wish a could have met him and shaken his hand-a humble and seemingly inappropriate expression of my gratitude as I've been trying to play a fretless bass, but some of his comments were really enlightening and gave me a friendly "push" to try something fresh. BTW his BACH cello stuff interpretation is second to NONE

  • hehe love the "if you were Jacqueline du Pre..." comment.

  • Marvelous!!!!!! Inspiring!!!!!(my aunt said this)

  • I'm a singer and this taught me so much. Thank you very much for uploading this!

  • he gave me a whole new perspective to this piece. i love it, so amazing.

  • I'm violinist, but I've learned a LOT from this video! And you can see how a teacher try to teach as much as he can.

    This makes lessons meaningful.

And I love this piece too. :)

  • @Annagame0808 I'm a violinist too and strangely I also found it useful in terms of accenting and dynamics. It's great!

  • the "most beautiful part" around 1:45 cannot sound more beautiful than how rostropovich plays it

  • thanks for posting this! very nice...

  • I love the French cello school. This was real poetry and art.
