  • the NST have a Flyback transformer for up the voltage?

  • no, NSTs have a core with three windings, one for the 120V primary feed and the other two are for the high voltage, they connect to each other in series by connecting to the core and then to the output wires

  • The newer, safer, NST's have a flyback like transformer to up the voltage, along with open/short circuit protection and GFI. Which makes them useless for a lot of HV projects.
