This is definitely possible, what I hate is how it is blown out of proportion of its ramifications. The Amero could become a currency and the NAU could be established all while maintaining each country's sovereignty.

I disagree with premise of the second part of your question - More specifically Bush did not "screw up America so badly". Regarding the other part, Bush is only a hero in sense that he stood up to evil and didn't compromise the good.
Overall given circumstances Bush was put in following 9/11 and fact that he protected the country - and to such an extent people no longer fear another attack (truly think about that) - Bush is a top 5 president.
