Hello, I am 18years old and have had Very mild dizziness and light headedness off and on, for about the past week, because its been off and on for awhile now.. i was wondering what could be the problem.. i was thinking about my diet and sleep patterns might having something to do with it.. aswell as many hours aday playing video games and being on the computer.. I sleep about 5-6 hours anight, and eat pretty much junk food and soda everyday. could that be my problem?
@ZombieAutooo Hi i m 19 and I have vertigo. Vertigo is severe and you can barely stand up. You get really faint and nauseous and may even vomit many times like me. I am on an antibiotic, a steroid (prednisone), an anxiety medicine, and an anti-nausea medicine for it.
I am no doctor but it seems to me that you should take 2 ibuprofen in the morning and 2 at night, be active, and get at least 8 hours of sleep. Also lay of the video games. They causes headaches and seizures for a reason.
@Rleeson85 This isn't something anyone should do. This problem causes really severe dizziness and nausea. You need someone educated there as a backup in case something goes wrong. I mean as in a doctor. Some will throw up like mad with these movements.
Correct, this is not Epley's maneuver. However, I disagree that I should edit the title just because you are not familiar with horizontal canal cupulolithiasis.
The posterior canal is the most common, but not the only canal involved in BPPV.
The diagnosis of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo contains no reference to which canal is involved - that is for the clinician to determine as the result of testing.
I think it's possible you're still a little bit confused.
At first I got confused since this is NOT the usual Epley's maneuvre done for posterior semicircular canal BPPV, which actually is the most common type. Then I read your description and this was a new info for me. Thanks, but you should edit the title to a more apt one.
This is not Epley's for posterior canal cupulolisthiasis - this is supine head roll (aka Semont maneuver) for horizontal canal dysfunction (sorry, the terminology is at the end, not the beginning, of the video).
See Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery , 139(5S4); Nov. 2008: s47-s81.
@funkfarl2009 This type of vertigo is fairly rare - the posterior semicircular canal is the most commonly involved labyrinth and that is the one that responds to Epley's. This is for horizontal canal cupulolithiasis.
@cervelo58 What is your source for incidence? I've heard of quite a few with it, and I've had it, my Mom too. I found an article in Pubmed, but not one based on a US study.
@Pist0ns I agree with you on this....I found that when i stopped eating Chinese food for an example...& completely stoped using salts it has helped me...I also make sure I eat a ton more fruits & veggies and stay away from caffeine & sleep more definitely helps...Good Luck!
@Pist0ns I have Meniere's Disease. I have noticed that salty foods can trigger attacks, as can bright lights (mostly fluros) and lack of sleep. Recently there has been construction work taking place in my neighbourhood, and the blasting under the ground (to make a tunnel) made a low vibrating roar that triggered vertigo without fail....thank god they've stopped now!
Thanks for posting this. My problem is in my left ear...does it matter which position the head is in to start? How often should this be done?
I was told to do the Epley Maneuver starting with my left ear to the pillow, then to do the BBQ Roll but after 5 months the balance is still off.
I'll try this as soon as I know which ear should be on the pillow to start.
Thanks!!

Yes. Invest while you're young in good habits, eat right and get plenty of sleep. Age is not kind.
