  • I just read the lyrics to the song. I'M SORRY !!!!!

  • This is only about history and we should be proud and remember we are on the same side... "The Human Side". My son was murdered because of this non-sense. Why are there so many hater's of all kinds in America - of all places? 2011 or not, I think if you try to stop us from even mentioning it you are just as much a hater as the rest. Everyone can talk about the civil war and other things without being dissed! I only think it is wrong to keep holding a grudge or living in a pity party.

  • I was reading the long back and forth comments on here and it is just annoying. Like what does it matter if there is an anthem seperate from the national one? It is okay to have something different. As for the people who say you don't see color then what is the problem with having a black anthem? If color doesn't bother you then why is it coming off as if you are complaining about blacks having their own anthem!???????????

  • Black OurStory Month 2011: We Must Defeat Fear!!!

  • At first I didn't like this song as the 'black national anthem',but after seeing it in a hymnal I understood that this song isn't just for black people it is for everyone. We were all enslaved to sin, yet through God's grace we have been delivered. Every other freedom we have achieved has been through God's will for us. We're not holding onto the past wrongs when we (of all colors) sing this song we're holding unto my history so that we may never repeat it.

  • could you post the chords you use on the piano?

  • There is only one National Anthem. It's just something they made up and are trying to push on us, like ebonics. But that didn't work either lol

  • @freepower67

There is only one national anthem as we all know. This song is entitled "Lift every voice and sing" it was never meant to replace the so called "National Anthem" it was only coined the term "The Black National Anthem" because of the lyrics, do you even know or understand the words! It was done as a poem to honor President Lincolns birthday...Learn your history...knowledge is power!

  • Excuse me, But Blacks, whites, hispanics, we all live in one Nation. There should be only one National Anthem and that is been around for years.

  • @Tom6093 The purpose of this is to tell the struggles of African-Americans in America (mostly during slavery and post-slavery years). It is never meant to undermine the purpose of the Star Spangled Banner.

  • @jamminondakeys I'm tired of the whole Racial or gay rights movement. Songs being re written to talk of the olden days and how you were slaves. When even before you came to America as slaves, you inslaved your own people. But we are no better. We kicked the Native Amercians off their land. All of us have pasts we're not proud of. Whites are still very errogant, but at the same time, I can't stand the whole HOOD, gansta, Pimp, pants hangn rap thing. It was great in the beginning.....con...

  • @jamminondakeys IT'S practically 2011. Most well educated people who are rational aren't racist. Yes....There is still a lot of it around, but most of us think it's lame. I get so tired of this whole thing about reminding us about what you have been through. GIVE IT UP !!!!! YOU HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS WE DO and if someane is racist, it's because they were raised wrong. To me, There is no color. We are from the same planet. We all have hearts, minds, and souls and have dreams.

  • @Tom6093 First, most of the spirituals from that era were original and not rewritten. Secondly, It is important to remind everyone of our past because it helps in appreciating our present and future. If I never knew the struggles of the past, I would take a lot of privileges I enjoy for granted. Likewise, if we don't hear about what happened, we are doomed to repeat it in some form or fashion. Lastly, the "hood/gangsta" persona is not just among blacks and it was never great, in my opinion.

  • @jamminondakeys Maybe the Hood/Gangsta thing isn't all black, but it still represents the inner cities nieghborhoods idea that if we don't have the same chances as the middle class, we'll kill for our domain and kill for the respect of our hood with colors. The whole gansta rap things feeds into this mentallity. Money, sex, fat bottom girls and Gold. WTF ? They have built a society within their hood that represents what their opinion of government is Kill or be Killed. , Guns mean power.

  • @Tom6093

I'm sorry, but your "move on and get over it" philosophy is what is wrong with this nation. If we don't learn from our mistakes, then we aren't making progress. For the first 170 years of our nation's history, African-Americans were terribly wronged. Enslaved, tortured, separated from their families, and treated worse than animals. I advise you read a book; Huckleberry Finn, and Uncle Tom's Cabin should enlighten you.

  • @PlasmaPrestige I have. But how long ago was slavery ? Don't we have enouph problems right now then to re hash old mistakes. Martin Luther King wanted everyone equal. I don't look at African Americans as black and troubled people. I look at them as equals I have a learning disability and that kept me from college. But I have a decent job. Do I need to make a big deal about how it almost broke me mentally. NO !! Nor do we Learning challenged people need an Anthem.

  • @Tom6093

I have a visual disability which grants me a visual acuity of 20/200. Don't equate your challenges or my challenges to the challenges African Americans faced in our nation's history. You and I aren't whipped, enslaved, and taken from our families because of our disabilities. It is completely irrelevant how long ago it was; when Mark Twain wrote Huck Finn in the 1880s, 95% of the issues such as religious hypocrisy and racism are still problems in this nation today. Let's learn from it.

  • @jamminondakeys Excuse me, but this is MY National Anthem. You can keep the WHITE NATIONAL ANTHEM, known as the Star Spangled Banner, which I do NOT sing, nor WILL I.

  • @jamminondakeys Well said my friend

  • Respond to this video... Your post brought tears to my eyes..... round of applause to you

  • @Tom6093 Please the American National anthem is a lie. This one deals with the reality of how America was stared.

  • @chi2capcorn Explain why you feel that way. Details !!!!!!

  • @Tom6093 see thats ur problem we dont live in one nation we live in many different nations

  • @JaylonCmm23 No !!! Many ethnic backgrounds , but we all live in one nation. We all have the same rights and we are free. You want racism and discrimination to completely stop ? Act like we are all one in this Nation. I'm not saying you need to ignore you race or your heritage or how far you have come. I'm saying that There should only be one National Anthem for the United States because we all make it what it is.

  • @JaylonCmm23 ok but that doesnt mean we cant make it for this special thing to us

  • @Tom6093 your ignorant beyond belief and i don't care if this comment is a year old.

  • @The123joend O.K.

  • @Tom6093 Maybe you should read up on why this song even exists. Segregation was legal in 1900, and white America didn't really care for black America and vice-versa, so we made our own national anthem.

And if you don't like it, stop watching it.
