Another thing to note, because the majority of cars in Rio for example are on Ethanol, the air much pretty clean in a city of 12 millon + people. Compared to LA for example, Rio is wayyyyyy cleaner.
U.S. plans to dbl production of ethanol by 2112? It's going to take 101 years? Really?! B.S. We need it to be done in 10 years. It should have been started 20 years ago. I guess it's going to be up the the U.S. citizens to get it going. Start making their own ethanol. It's only been done for 200 years now.
I've been using ethanol for 20 years already. I had 2 petrol cars , 3 ethanol and the last one a flex fuel (ethanol/petrol) Chevrolet. That means all my driving life...
In the beginning because was cheaper but now because it's better as well. A little bit more power and of course a clean energy. If you live in a city like Sao Paulo with millions of cars everyone start to think how we can reduce the pollution. A smart decision.
Now I understand why we never fear oil crisis like overseas...
Pause for just a moment and think about this, folks. The Brazilian climate is conducive to growing sugar cane, from which a great deal more sugar can be extracted than from corn. There is no way that the US could grow enough quality sugar cane to lend feasibility to such a system, and the corn we grow does not contain enough sugar to be effective either. Three cheers for Brazil, but it won't work in the US.
@swillswill Ethanol can be produced from a wide variety of crops, not just sugar cane. Corn can be grown in massive quantities and it is not true that corn for ethanol raises food prices. This is a myth. The waste product that remains from the harvest and processing of corn is used to make ethanol. The high quality kernel and oil proteins are extracted for food products. The remaining waste is used to produce ethanol. The primary obstacle to ethanol in the US is the oil industry lobby.
Free energy labeled 'economic terrorism' - The widespread adoption of these new, non-polluting energy and propulsion systems will effectively replace the use of oil, gas, coal, nuclear power, impacting 4.5 trillion dollars a year in world economic activity, replace the current? geo-political order with one based on decentralized abundance. (Examiner; March 21, 2009) (Do not let the big oil companies get involved with this !)
I think if Cellulose Ethanol (sugarcane and switch-grass) is better than regular ethanol (corn), we should grow cellulose crop. Cellulose ethanol is better than regular ethanol because it is much more cleaner and provides more energy.
@xBeAGoodPersonx The Danish company Novozymes, which specializes in industrial enzymes, and the Brazilian Dedini Industry Base, the largest equipment company for the sugarcane sector in the country, today announced a joint project for production of cellulosic ethanol made from bagasse and cane straw cane. The goal is to build an integrated mill with a sugar plant by 2012 and meet the challenge of making cellulosic ethanol more competitive world.
If and when the US becomes energy independent, what would this do to the economies of Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E.? Surely they can't just rely on the petroleum sector.
Im so used to it that it doesnt bother me any more. Buts its worth to tell that the per capita income of Brazil is 5 times higher than the one told on the video.
there´s actually a US company that is bringing this technology to the US to allow any car to run on this fuel. it´s called onehourflex or something like that
I'm not a treehugger but continuous deforestation as a means to get around for a continuous growing world population, in principle, is the most redundant idea which everyone seems to be adapting to.
The United States, as big as it is, lacks vision for the future. Let's wait until things get really bad then act on them is our motto.
We can send man to the moon but we can't have all flex fuel cars or have E85 and desiel at all the gas stations in the United States. When are we going to wake up and smell the coffee?????? Or should I say, wake up and smell the ETHANOL?
I agree with you 100%. Our U.S. fedarl government is so strongly influenced by the greedy oil companies to the piont that we are not even concidering alternative fuel sources such as ethanol. Instead of making the intelligent decision of switching to ethanol our governmet continues to spend billions of dallors on Midle Eastern nations that want to destroy us while poluting our air and water with their fosil fules. We do need to"Wake UP and Smell the Ethanol."
Brazil has the Greenest economy in the world!
